Welcome to the Huge 125 Gallon South American Cichlid Aquarium!
This, in my opinion is my best aquarium yet! In part 2 of the 125 gallon build series we take a look at the creation of this tank. From the sand substrate, to the wood, and to the rocks used in the aquascape. We then transfer the fish and show you an in-depth look at the awesome final product!
The tank is still not 100% complete but it's close. Stay tuned for an update video in the next few months which will showcase its 100% completion along with some new fish additions!
Thank you for watching & supporting the channel. Make sure you are subscribed for all future fish room content!

Bubba will always be the star of the show. His personality is Amazing🙌🏼
See him brighten up once he was moved? Absolutely buzzing he was haha he is a cool fish…however “special” he might be😂
I really like this setup. Kinda the less is more concept. The little pebbles give a good transition too. Right size tank for the stock as well. Very well done!👍
Thanks Jeff. I’m really looking forward to this tank evolving. Especially once the fish grow & I add a few more. Thanks for watching!
Get the bar in 👍🍺🍺🍺🍺😂🇬🇧 from Stoke .love the tank 👍
Hahahaha simply haven’t got the money right now George!😂 maybe in a few years. Until then I’ll enjoy this tank & the others👍🏻😂
That looks really really good.
Tank looks amazing
Thanks Adam! I really liking it so far. Excited for the fish to get BIG too👌🏻 appreciate you watching👍🏻
You've got the tank looking amazing Lewis. Those river stones look superb. Is that your final stocking level. You're right about Bubba he looked like he was swimming around with a smile on his face. Looking forward to the next videos leading to the completion of your fish room. Stay safe and take care mate.
Thanks John I appreciate it. Right?! He was buzzing hahaha & yeah plenty still to do in the fishroom! It’ll be the angel tank next👍🏻 thanks for tuning in mate!
Love this scape mate great work, just got myself a new 125g for some big American cichlids and this is great inspiration for my future scape.. love the simplistic natural look of this
Thanks man I appreciate it. Really loving this tank so far. Can wait for these fish to get BIG👌🏻
one of my dream setups
Thanks for checking it out! Hope you enjoyed the video and channel👍🏻
Love it…such rewarding fish 🤩
Thanks mate👌🏻 loving the change so far. Can’t wait for them to grow and really fill it out👍🏻 you may have had an impact in getting me into these! Haha
@@cichlidscape Great Conversations lead to great ideas playing out. They are going to be great fish to raise, especially in the environment you’ve created for them 🙏🏻💪🏼
Great this mate looks very natural I want to do something like this when I upgrade for my cichlids
Thanks for checking it out!👍🏻 it’s changed a bit now but I still like it
@cichlidscape I just think it's really good I would love yo make my cichlid tank look similar to this
waaaaw ❤
Looking good. That Geo looks like he needs some friends.
Thanks mate. Planning on getting more but there was only one of these at the store. Unsure on the type, but we’re definitely getting some more soon👍🏻
@@cichlidscape My guess would be Red Head Tapajos? I have some slightly smaller that look similar. ruclips.net/video/DdlVfOlut7U/видео.html
@@Gilsfishroom this guy is either a Surinamensis or an altifrons I believe. Was sold to me as a Surinamensis. We’ll soon see though! Haha
@@cichlidscape I look forward to finding out. Unfortunately with them being so slow growing it is gonna take a while!
How do you use just sponge filters for filtration
On this tank now i have sponge filers, an internal filter & a canister. But you can run tanks off sponge filters by themselves. They are great for mechanical & biological filtration👍🏻
Hello,
Should I put salt (Fritz) in my American Cichlids tank?
Thanks
Bro what kind of water do you use soft or hard water
Really like the setup. I think that going from a buildup to free water gradation is an excellent idea. Hope you don't mind me stealing it. LOL. One question I do have is regarding your Fluval FX6, I have 0 experience with Canister filtration systems and in reading the reviews about the FX6 noticed that many people have had problems with leaks, the motor just flat out quitting after a short time and the main complaint of terrible customer service from the company. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks man👍🏻 ive had the fx6 for years now with no issues. It’s something with the aquastop valve that I need to fix. 1st issue I’ve had but a lot of folks never have any problems you know. The filter itself is great! Maybe is just a little pricey you know
Nice. Where did you get the river stones?
Thanks man👍🏻 I purchased the majority of these from a rock yard in my area. Cleaned them off, made sure they were aquarium safe & I was good to go👌🏻 appreciate you watching!
@@cichlidscape was looking everywhere for some bigger ones. Got various smaller ones but can't get anything on the bigger side.
Be posting my african river tank in a few days if you're interested. Just kribs and some sort of tetra at the moment l, hopefully adding armoured shrimp tomorrow
@@adamsaquarium2092 nice! Yeah I’ll for sure check that out. Sounds like a cool tank
aquarium hobby for 50 years: this setup bad choices/ lousy advice 1. Filter most important tank equipment (not decor). Video: planned filter: Fluval fx6 - towel wrapped - valve problem. Solve the filter problem before you do anything else and get some cycled filter material to speed up cycling of new tank 2. decor to help stay down: can pre-soak driftwood in a container/cooler for 1 month-keep cooler/container closed with cynder blocks/bricks/weights 3. using sand substrate - only showed 1 fish that needs sand (1 Heckeli fish) - sand is 3 times more expensive than gravel - I would only spend the extra $ on sand, if I was picking as my center-piece fish, fish that needs sand like eartheaters/heckeli. But not the case here.
😂 comical. The towel is just in case the valve is would happen to leak. Same as the container it’s in. As for the rest, I can’t be arsed reading it all. Thanks for watching though👍🏻
Yea there are some changes I would make for sure
Be quiet dude, drift wood doesn’t need to be soaked for a month lmao I had mine tannin free in 1 day, obviously you can’t teach a old dog new tricks lol
@@WatsonsAquatics well done. Really proud of you! A lot of folks do soak driftwood for that amount of time. Does help it sink, lower tannins etc. However, thanks for your input!
@@cichlidscape I always put a few pilot holes with a drill in case I can’t get it to sink allows the salt and water to go deeper into the wood!
It's not really a south american tank with a blood parrot in there.
I was aware but thanks for sharing this knowledge with everyone. 95% South American then…although I wasn’t going to make that the title of the video😂 appreciate you watching. Tank looks even better at the moment I think. Recently re-scaped it👌🏻
