Thank you just got 6 queen palms but they have small black spots on the leaves and I used miracle grow garden soil mixed with sand to transplant is that an okay soil to use when transplanting ?
I've got two of these in my front yard. The problem is they aren't quite tall enough for the frawns to clear the road traffic. I'm assuming it is better for the health of the palm to cut back a few of the offending frawns back some leaving green leaves than taking them off altogether?
Actually having more (a higher number) of fronds on any palm, is beneficial for good health. As fronds become aged, they will loose their visual appeal, by becoming frayed, tattered, turning yellow and brown! The lower, older fronds even though they are no longer appealing to the eye, are still beneficial and important for feeding the palm, so always leave as many fronds on the canopy as possible! Although if there are low hanging fronds, that are obstructing patios, walkways and are touching a structure you can partially trim or completely remove those particular fronds that are causing the issues.
Beautiful plant. I just got a queen palm from store in a 10 inch grower pot. Can I put it in ground where is full sun during the day? Can it take full sun?
David, I am really enjoying your videos! I live in Las Vegas (Zone 9a/9b) and I am having a heck of a time with my Queen. It's very yellow and I can't get it to green up. I've added manganese, blood meal, vigaro palm tree spikes, and some granular palm fertilizer from the local nursery. It is presently 110* here in Vegas. I am afraid of trying a foilure feeding, but I need to do something to green this guy up. Any suggestions?
Increase the weekly irrigation/watering, as well as using Southern AG Palm Nutritional Liquid Fertilizer, by pouring the fertilizer into the ground, around the trunk!
Those guys are sooooo beautiful when properly cared for. Unfortunately, since they're so good at not dying, landscapers all over south Texas plant them and neglect them, so instead of a thick plumage of long dark green fronds, they are thin and light green. I bought a three foot queen when I moved to my current location and fed it a homemade compost of mostly broccoli stalks and carrot peelings, and it shot up to nearly 12' in only three years. Unfortunately, winter 2021 killed it.
Keep the great videos coming brother. I love queen palms
Are royal palms as cold hardy as these? I just don't like how messy queen palms look. Especially towards the crown area.
You're doing a great job, really like your palm videos ;)

Great video! What you said magnesium and potassium for queen palms, do you have a specific brand of fertilizer or any that’s for palms?
Lesco 8-2-12, and Southern AG Liquid Palm Nutritional Fertilizer!
David Casella, thank you!
Can I plant queen palm in the pavement?
My root ball on my queen palm is 7in from ground is that normal? I’m worried during winter when the wind is blowing hard that the tree might fall.
7inch up from ground
