    I remember when Ms. Sloane first arrived on the tennis scene. She hit her first serve hard, had a big forehand and a good backhand, and then, after winning a Grand Slam, her heart wasn't there anymore. She is a really good player, but it feels like she doesn't enjoy it anymore. At her peak, she could hang with anyone.

    • @rickylam7018
      @rickylam7018 14 дней назад +3

      I have always rooted for her. She has a great serve, great power, and is super athletic. But I don't know if I agree about the attitude change. She has never come across as a player who 'wants it' as much as some of the other great players out there, before or after her sole GL win. While there is absolutely no dispute that she is extremely talented and obviously works hard on her fitness, there is a prey-drive that is missing from her, and her lack of on-court strategy means she is often sending neutral (but deep, granted) ball back, rarely taking risks, and therefore needing to defend way more than someone of her calibre should. If she wants to keep sticking around, she and her team should look at a much more aggressive playstyle (which she is more than capable of) going forward.

    What is wrong with Sabalenka? I generally have no problem with her "grunting" and celebrations like most people have, but every time I watch her lately, they seem to get worse and worse. I think she is a fantastic player and a good personality, but this is a problem and I think it needs to be addressed. Also, this is not a competitive and/or high intensity match. Never at any point was Sloane up over Sabalenka or giving her intense points. Sabalenka is shouting and being over celebratory as if she has to work for the match. This is too much and I am really beginning to grow weary of supporting let alone watching any tennis with Sabalenka being like this.

    It has always both puzzled and annoyed me that on TV and these videos we always first see the player who won the point. This happens almost 100% of the time when tennis matches are broadcast. On one hand, it might seem logical. But on the other hand, it's often more interesting to watch the player who lost the point, because so much frustration can be expressed. And it would at least be nice to have a bit of variation so it’s not always the same ...

    Good win by Sabalenka. Glad to see Stephens still around - at least she has one Grand Slam but there are so many one-and-done players like that. Although the accomplishment (depending if they had to play many seeded players during the tournament) is good, I don't agree that they need constant praise for that. Talk to me when someone can win multiple Grand Slams (without "accidentally" using banned substances) and larger tournaments.

      The top 104 players earn direct entry based on their ranking six weeks before the main draw starts. Sloane's ranking is 79 - it probably has to do with the fact that she won a French Open tune up event last year. If she doesnt successfully defend that title, her ranking will drop considerably im sure.

      Actually she didn't go into a slump after winning the US Open. She performed very well in 2018, winning Miami, making the French Open final, Canadian Open final and the finals of the WTA Championships. She earned more prize money and finished with a better ranking in 2018 than in 2017 when she won the Open. Sloane has talked, at length, about how hard it is to play on tour week in and week out and how not everyone is like Federer, Serena or Nadal - most players simply cannot perform at that level all the time and it's okay if they don't.
