- We arrived in Davao City Mindanao, and it was time for Mike and I to go check out the local market! I took my fellow Canadian friend on a little walk around of Bankerohan in Davao City. We ate some unique Filipino soup, tried out different fruits, and just soaked up the local atmosphere. I always feel it is one of the bests way to fully immerse in the vibes of a place!
Canadians eating Filipino food and fruits at a local market in Davao City... yup, it was awesome! As a foreigner you need not be worried to travel or walk around in this part of Mindanao. :)
Oh, and yes, it got smelly and very unique when it comes to fruits and foods we experienced!

Me too! I havent eaten bulchachong and marang yet. Bulcachong looks like beef pares, while marang looks like a giant atis.

I just love the way you pronounced bulcachong as "bull - kah - chung", it made it sound more exotic that it already is. Its a great hangover cure and perfect comfort food on a cold, rainy night. Between the marang and the langka (jack fruit), I prefer marang more, just because its not available in Luzon, you could find it in the big supermarkets but it cost about 125 pesos a piece, while in Mindanao I can get one for a fifth of the Manila price and more than twice as big. Nothing beats fruit season in Mindanao. The taste varies for marang and langka dpending on the variety. Just like durians, their taste (since they belong to the same family) varies according to their variety. The langka we have in our farm has a bit of a floral taste, but the ones here in Luzon have a more citrussy taste. Our marang is more of the medium round ones that are loosely packed and they taste somewhat like condensed milk. :-)

laag-laag in the market place is very interesting...ukay ukay makes my routine complete everytime i go to the market ... hehehe its vert cheap but with good quality clothing....kailangan lang jud mamili ug mangukay.and that marang wow so sarappppp...we have a lot of that here in Zamboanga city too.
