Waterproof Laminate test

  • RevWood is a waterproof laminate from Mohawk. We did a little test to see if it will hold up to a common spill that may not get cleaned up right away. If you have kids you know what I mean lol.
The biggest drawback to laminate for so many years was the fact that it could not hold up very well to moisture. Mopping or spills would allow water to seep in-between the planks and the laminate would then swell and be ruined.
Now that problem has been solved and we can have a laminate floor that will resist damage from mopping and spills. As well as provide excellent protection against scratches and dents making it a great product for people with dogs.
We have a vast selection of waterproof laminate to choose from. PTL Flooring located at 310 NW Railroad St, Yelm, WA.

Wish you'd have separated the joints to see if there is any moisture intrusion.

Didn't think about that. I don't think there was as I'm sure if it did then joints would've swelled up.

Yeah ,I agree it would have been nice to see if the water had seeped through the seams. Most of these "waterproof" laminates are only water resistant for so many hours. The true test would be to soak the plank in a tub of water for multiple hours to see if it was damaged. Honestly, though with all the actual waterproof "luxury vinyl planks" out there, why would anybody want a laminate plank?

I would like to see someone do a video using a sheet of glass or glass table and laying several planks of click-lock/floating flooring clicked together on top after spilling water on the joints and looking below to see if water has penetrated the seams and gone under the planks, which would be visible through the glass. I was going to do this experiment when we installed our floors. I am so surprised that no one has done this and only talks about the waterproof capability of the top layer of the planks.

@@number1pappyIMO vinyl tends to show subfloor imperfections more than laminate. For me vinyl just feels / looks / sounds that bit cheaper or tackier than laminate. The edges of vinyl tiles where they come together can be troublesome particularly in areas where there are temperature changes. I considered both and I opted for laminate for my sitting room.

Wish I got the laminates that he demonstrated because the ones I got from Home Depot, absolutely warped from wet mopping and from steam mopping.

How often are you submerging your floor in water?

Would you like a waterproof laminate that you can submerge for 72 hours instead? We have that as well.

Hahahaha.... WTF is this? A video showing how water proof something is, but all we saw was the guy pour liquid, and then clean liquid. No lifting of the flooring to see if water penetrated. Wow.
