Classic ELO and probably their first big mega hit. 1972 and back when Roy Wood was in the band. This kind of music will never die.

This version absolutely SUCKS. Go listen to the real version and then compare it to this. It is inferior in every way.

Jeff Lynne is a phenomenal musician, producer, singer, songwriter and arranger. He creates the best fusion for Rock with Classical instruments. The end result is symphonic Rock and Pop with fabulous harmonies. Long live Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).

"10538 Overture", released in 1972, was the first single by The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). The song was composed by Jeff Lynne. An “Overture” is a beginning piece which is meant to allude to something greater to come or is used to introduce song elements which will be used to the later pieces of an arrangement of music. “10358 Overture” is likely about the small talk and gossip between city people about an escaped prisoner, running through the streets to the bay, to avoid being caught by the police.

The structure of this song is way way out there.... unique... not in the mold of a 3:30 pop song at all, very English pop, more like a painting with musical notes than a song...amazing....😻

"10538 Overture" was the first ever ELO song to be recorded in July 1970, The band members were Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Rick Price as they were still The Move at that time. The song was originally supposed to be called simply "`10538" it was about a man who had a number instead of a name like in "The Prisoner" tv series. "10538" was the planned 'B' side of Roy Wood's single "When Alice Comes Back To The Farm", after Bevan and Price went home, Wood and Lynne were still in the studio. Wood started recording many overdubs for the song with some heavy "Jimi Hendrix" style guitar riffs on a cheap Chinese Cello that he'd bought for £30, Lynne liked it and said to Wood "That's the Electric Light Orchestra", so Lynne renamed the song "10538 Overture". The Move released "When Alice Comes Back To The Farm" as a single with Lynne's "What" as the 'B'side instead. "10538 Overture" appeared as the opening track on ELO's 1971 debut album "The Electric Light Orchestra", it was called "No Answer" in the USA.

Iain Hornal's fantastic vocals were the highlight for me in Brum 2016. Had no idea he was a brill songwriter, then with his 10cc associations and touring with Graham Gouldman found this delicious album... ruclips.net/video/awmn-bTOr3w/видео.html he's a great bass player (and multi-instrumentalist) too... he was subbing for Lee Pomeroy with Yes ARW for their June dates ruclips.net/video/Dvs0_IB5NuA/видео.html . He's also taken his turn playing Macca in the long running Let It Be musical. His Fill my Little Fanfare track played before the 2016 the Feeling gigs (available on Google Play with his name mis-spelt) is Brian Wilson-esque bliss. Other gems on His You Tube channel... His Band Hornal are brilliant live and he's sung lead with Three Friends and is the lead vocalist with 10cc (when ELO commitments allow) too!

10538 overture is perhaps one of the greatest rock/classical pieces of music ever written. However, I much prefer the "live from long beach" version which I think, was the b side of Evil Woman. I don't think any modern live version comes close to it.

This sucks. It's not ELO. It's not even close to being ELO. 1/2 the song is missing. There are no woman voices in the original. This might as well be a high school band. It's awful. It's not even close. Literally 1/2 the music is not there. The original sounds like Heavy Metal and Classical got together and had a baby. This version sounds like the special needs baby.
