Which Is Better? The Rosary vs. The Chaplet

  • “What if I don’t have time to pray both The Rosary and The Divine Mercy Chaplet?”
Deciding how to spend your time in prayer can be difficult, especially when you’re deciding between two powerhouse prayers like The Rosary and The Chaplet. Let’s look at each of them.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy was gifted to Saint Faustina during a vision of Jesus. In this vision, he listed 14 promises (www.divinemerc...) to those who pray the chaplet. In the chaplet, the prayers revolve around the concepts of mercy and holiness for the whole world, and reflect the prayers and promises we make during the Mass. It’s an extremely powerful prayer for not only our own souls, but the sanctification of the world.
On the other hand, we have The Rosary, which is an act of love toward the Mother of Jesus, who was given to us at the crucifixion. This prayer has been recommended countless times by almost every saint who’s ever lived-and by Mary herself in several apparitions! The Rosary is a reflection on not only Mary’s life, but the life and miracles of Jesus as well. It allows us to enter into those moments with Jesus, the apostles, and Mary by way of meditation.
So, should we spend time in prayer on The Chaplet-which probably takes about 5-10 minutes-or on The Rosary, which will take maybe 20-30 minutes?
    Why not both?
If you don’t feel like you have enough time for prayer, that’s worth looking into. The reality is, you don’t have to pray The Rosary every day, and you don’t have to pray The Chaplet every day. But why not pray both as much as you can? These prayers are gifts God has given every willing Christian, and they are pathways to Heaven. So why not?

I go to my room at 10 pm every night and pray my rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and a list of other prayers. Since I have gotten into this habit, I find myself looking forward to my evening prayer time. It’s the best part of my day to unwind and be with God for an hour or longer. Sometimes I read the Bible or journal. You won’t regret setting time aside for this. I promise.

Having no time is just an excuse people use. Everyone has time to watch t.v, use social media, talk on the phone etc. You have to make time for God, make time to pray. You can Pray on your way to work, say a prayer before a meal, etc. It takes 20 minutes to pray the Rosary, under 10 minutes to pray the Chaplet. Don’t tell me you can’t fit this in a 24 hour day. Wake up in the morning 20 minutes earlier to fit one of these prayers each and everyday. 🙏🏻 God Bless

You're right. Social media is THE drain on our time. I disengaged myself from Facebook and Instagram and now I have time to pray the Rosary, the Chaplet and morning, evening and night prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours. It's liberating. Instead of getting stressed with fake news so early in the morning, I feel God's peace soothing my anxieties away.

That usually last around 30 min. With quick meditation on the Mysteries .

I do not babble I pray the Rosary and mediate on the mysteries as best I can and yes it can take 20 min sometimes it does take s little longer. If you encourage people to pray instead of judging how to pray maybe more people would start praying the Rosary. Just a thought. God Bless

Normally, the Church has a program called Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). It typically runs roughly 9 months, from about September of the current year to the Feast of the Pentecost in the following year (basically, now as of the time of this message to Pentecost). You would undergo exploration and learning of the faith, plus preparation to be received into the Church. You would also need a sponsor (someone who is a regularly practicing Catholic) - if you don't know anyone that meets this criterion, the Church would help you find one.
Depending on your current sacramental status, you would receive Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion during the Easter Vigil Mass next year. If you've already been Baptized in the Trinitarian form, you won't be Baptized again.
If a parish/diocese doesn't use RCIA, they would have a program/method of preparation that is formally approved by the Bishop of the diocese you live in.

I love having the opportunity to listen to the Rosary and the Prayer Chaplet, I am able to listen while I do other things that I need to do. I write to God every morning and I have the Rosary and Prayer Chaplet playing while I write. This allows me to always have time daily to really connect with my Heavenly Father, Jesus and Mary. I don't think God cares if I do it perfectly or on my knees, I think He just cares that I do it. I always start my day by surrendering my life and my will to my Heavenly Father and asking only for His will and guidance with my day. I also Pray for my Family, Friends and everyone in our World. I Pray for all the Animals who are being treated with such cruelty. I usually spend about an hour in the morning writing and listening to Prayer. I talk to God about everything. I have had many Miracles occur in my life as a direct result of Prayer. My life is not always perfect, but by surrendering my life and will to God daily I can accept the bad times easier because I know am doing God's Will and it helps keep me from going into self pity, fear or resentment. I also keep a conscious contact with God all day long because living in this World is really hard and God helps me to make sense of it all. Last thing at night when I get into bed I thank God for having helped me through another day and I ask Him to protect me while I sleep. I keep it really simple and it helps me more than words can say! 💕🙏⚘

@Geoege Nicolas - I'm in RCIA also, and loving it. The way I learned to pray the chaplet was listening to Drew Mariani pray the chaplet each day on relevant radio at 3:00 p.m. central. There's an app for relevant radio if you aren't near a station. You'll learn a lot listening to relevant radio and have a lot of questions answered. There are also a few talk shows that you can call in and ask questions. While you're waiting for your RCIA to start, you could check out a series called The wild goose on RUclips. We were introduced to it in our RCIA class. It's wonderful. And of course, ascension presents has so many videos that help with day-to-day life application of all of this. I just am amazed and thrilled at all the resources that are available.

I pray the chaplet from good friday to the saturday before White Sunday. It is the Novena of the divine Mercy. Every day you bring another group of people to be saved to His Divine Mercy. You can do it in the Intention of your parrish priest or the Pope plus your own. I love Meditation on All the sorts of people Jesus came to save. It's very powerful.

As a Protestant, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is one of the main things that has gotten me through the past year since my husband died in a car accident. (Along with Father Mike's talk about taking up your cross. Wow. So applicable.) Now, I've joined RCIA and am hoping to become a member of the Catholic Church in the spring. I've recently started praying the Rosary, and I love it! (I still have a lot of questions, but I've been profoundly touched praying the Rosary.) So I hope this question doesn't offend anyone (please remember I'm just starting to learn about these things, so be merciful), is it okay to combine these? For example, a few times, I've prayed the Hail Marys on the first and fifth decades, the Chaplet on the second and fourth decades, and Father Dave's (from Wild Goose) "Come Holy Spirit" on the 3rd decade. Is that okay? Also, I recently read that I should (or must?) have my rosaries blessed by a priest. Have I sinned by praying with unblessed rosaries? And is there anything else I should have blessed? (Crucifix hanging in my house, picture of the Divine Mercy also hanging?) I have about 15 million questions, but I'm hoping these few are simple to answer. There's so much to learn, so many amazing tools, and I'm a bit overwhelmed ... in kind of a good way, but I need to work my way up or I'm afraid I'll get overwhelmed in a not so good way.

Many of the Saints prayed all the mysteries of Rosary everyday. I have tried to incorporate this into my life as well, but have made a few modifications to it because I talked about it with God. I started by praying the Joyful, the Luminous, the Sorrowful, and the Gloriois mysteries everyday, but I am now praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary in the morning followed by praying the mysteries of the day 3 times throughout the day. So on Saturday, I’d pray the seven sorrows rosary, then the joyful mysteries three times. I highly recommend praying all 4 rosaries in a day, or something like it. Definitely talk with God and Our Lady before making a prayer schedule because They will help you. God bless you all and Our Lady keep you

a chaplet is a meditated prayer revolving around the beads' collar called the chaplet. The Holy Rosary is the prayer around the same collar, which implies three or four turns around the collar. Other chaplets also exist on different collars, usually shorter than the Holy Rosary which usually goes from the neck all the way down to the feet.

I prayed the chaplet before I was Catholic or even a committed Christian. I was searching spiritually and sinning constantly. But I was searching seriously for God. My husband and I read the Diary and the promise’s impressed me. I started praying it along with all the other mantras and new age junk. I think it and the Rosary saved me. It took me years but I finally came back to Jesus completely. And eventually realized I had to become Catholic because I wanted the Eucharist. But I even transformed further and am a strong faithful Catholic today. I believe in the promises of Christ and Mary. I pray both prayers.
On a practical level if you are short on time the Chaplet takes half the time. Also I use it specifically to pray for lost souls. Or people who really need to fine God again.

I pray Mary's Psalter and the Angelus on most days. My work schedule doesn't allow for a 3pm break BUT I did find a 3o'clock prayer (takes like 1 minute) and I add to that- the angel of Fatima prayer (takes another minute). It incorporates what St. Faustina has in her diary regarding the hour of Divine Mercy🤷‍♀️ (i have no idea if its even appropriate that I pray it this way but I don't want to just let 3pm come and go daily without at least acknowledging Divine Mercy hour)
    Prayer at three O'clock
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls
and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.
O Fountain of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy,
envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.
    O Blood and Water,
which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus
as a fountain of mercy for us,
    I trust in You.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
Have mercy on us and on the whole world.
JESUS, King of mercy, I trust in You
    FATIMA PRAYER:
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, nor adore, nor hope, nor love You.
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly. I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He is offended. And, through the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of sinners.

The more we love God, the more we pray. It’s just like doing stuff with our loved ones. The more we love them, the more we spend time with them and talk to them. We get to know God through prayer, it is our bonding time with God. 4 years ago, I couldn’t commit to praying the rosary daily, it is very tedious for me bcz of it’s repetitiveness. But as I develop a deeper relationship with God, praying 3 mysteries of the rosary is possible. I do it lovingly and meditatively. God gave me the grace bcz I made an effort to spend time with Him and Mary. Let us start with an effort and God will supply the grace. Glory to God🙏😇

I pray the rosary, Monday (Joyful), Tuesday (Sorrowful), Wednesday (Glorious); but on Thursday, Friday, Saturday I do the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Canonical Hours) and Sunday is Churchday. Each day I do the Angelus prayer thrice (Morning, Midday, Night) and I do the Chotki/Jesus Prayer dispersed throughout the day. I like having that assortment and variety in my prayer-life.

Regarding the chaplet and praying it exactly at 3pm, I take comfort when I pray it that somewhere in the world it is 3pm.

When you make time, there is always time. There is time for both the Rosary (15-20 min.) and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy (10 min). The time to pray both is literally the same as watching one TV show. Imagine all the time spent on social media, watching Netflix, TV, texting, etc. I do those things too, but in moderation and I have plenty of time for the Rosary and the Chaplet.

I have set a 3 o'clock alarm on my phone, to remind me. This week, I've been swamped with work and have not prayed it. Thank you, father, I needed this. As a Christian, there's no better duty, than to pray.

For a long time, what we called a rosary was all 15 mysteries - 3 sets [Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious]. Pope JP2 added the luminous mysteries to that. For a "full rosary", you say 203 hail mary's. One set of mysteries is better than none. But I encourage you to push through the 20. Best spread out throughout the day. It's effectiveness is unparalleled. You are meditating on the whole of Jesus' life, not just part of it. It is like exercise. We need to make time for it. What is good requires sacrifice. God Bless!

I started praying the Rosary, which lead me back to Church, back to the Sacraments, which lead me to Chaplet of Divine Mercy, which lead me to Stations of the Cross, which lead me to Love Holy Jesus -Father, Son, Holy Spirit. I am more in LOVE with our Lord than ever. Pray these Prayers and you will fall in love with the Lord.... Find time to pray. :)

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate and enjoy your videos and also your personality and spirit. I learn so much and also feel uplifted after watching them. I also enjoy the challenges and admonitions you sometimes include because of the obvious love and care you also always show. Thank you for this outreach. I pray that it bears much fruit and brings many to God. I have loved the Holy Rosary from early childhood and also love the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. I am so grateful for both!

Beautiful explanation of the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and the holy rosary. Praying the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy during early morning prayer feeds my faith and connects me with God on a deeper level. The quiet, peaceful mornings are perfect for reflecting on the mysteries and experiencing God's mercy. I enjoy listening to RUclips Channel "Beads of Grace".

The rosary has 15 promises. And a summary in St John's first chapter:"He came unto his own, the Joyful mysteries. His own received him not, the Sorrowful mysteries; but to all who did receive him he gave the power of becoming sons of God, the Glorious mysteries" chapter 1.

I'm a new Catholic. Was baptized on the 21st of December. I serve the Holy Mass every day. We recite the Rosary every day and on Fridays when we have the Holy hour of adoration we recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
God bless you Father Mike. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. The way you break it down is amazing. Keep it up.

Amen. I say these both daily in addition to other prayers, and they bless me profoundly. I depend on them. We all have the same 24 hours... Sometimes that means I have to say it at 1am, or even make one up the next day if i absolutely could not get to it, but man... These prayers have transformed my life.

    Hello father,
"You don't have to do them every single day"
Our lady asked us to pray the whole thing each day according to other sources on youtube... My own personal thoughts are as the world gets more and more away from Christ and his teachings, we should try to do a rosary a day and some of a chaplet...there are several. Litany forgot the holy souls ...we all need friends in heaven right? So do a rotating chaplet schedule and get those knees worn out from that rosary... Our lady wakes me between 4 and 6 usually - she knows I get peace to do it then...what a GREAT way to start the day...!
Loving the videos by the way...keep it up.

@@ghostghost7067 lol Father thanks for the reply, she told the children at Fatima to tell the world, pray a daily rosary. Boy do we need that right now. Its all out there on the youtube vids I have been diligently watching (the catholic channels & talks) so many amazing bits of info.
I also personally believe I had miracles worked in me... 8 years piano progress in 2 and a bit years! Distinction in violin G8 etc. That's what I get for having bday Jan 1st lol.
God bless you I will pray for your parish.

Dear siblings in Christ, I took the decision 2 days ago to wake up earlier than usually, it means at least at 6 am (my husband will be preparing for his work and my kids for their online courses, so they don't need me physically 😊) and to start my days with all the prayers I need and want to elevate to God; this way, no one in my family will reproach me to be away and unavailable when needed , furthermore it is the most beautiful and insightful way to go throughout the day , enlightened spiritually and strengthened in the Holy Spirit sevenfold gifts, consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of the Marvelous Blessed Virgin Mary, under the protection of the Holy Court of the Archangels and our Angel Guardian, the intercession of all the Saints in Heaven and the unceasing prayers of the holy souls in Purgatory.
What a marvelous feeling of utter joy and inner peace, move us from within !
I realized that praying the chaplet or the Rosary while doing the household isn't a good idea since so many distractions can occur... However we can listen to Christian songs while working or driving towards our destination.
I've stopped my freelance job since a year, and decided to stay home with my kids, therefore I have more free time than the people who are working outside home and not being able to concile between their working time and their personal one. For that reason, I wanted to share this opinion with you dear all, if it is possible, try to sleep earlier at night in order to wake up at sunrise and to find a time of inner silence for praying🙏❤️
Jesus deserves our devotion and enthusiastic encounter with Him in an indivudual intimate moment on a daily basis, don't you think so?🤗 And if done in a community, it will also remain individual because it is about our own soul and its essence, how much do we love and do we seek to spread love around, alone or in a community, this all what our journey on earth is about; to love, to love and to love as Jesus loved us.
Thank you for your prayers and for your time dear brothers and sisters. May the Holy Trinity bless and protect you all and your loved ones🙏❤️🤗

Oh I so needed to hear this today. I realize that I have become mechanical in my prayer…wanting, needing to check both boxes that I’ve “said” the Rosary and the Chaplet. I want, instead, to really PRAY the Rosary and the Chaplet so that I can unite myself more fully with the Father and Jesus and Mary. As always, thank you Fr Mike!!
