      @@kennethmackay3269 Nichelle Nichols appeared in a promotional film aimed at recruiting women and people of color to apply to be astronauts in 1977. Sally Ride was in the first astronaut class after that film premiered. And while there are a tremendous number of people that were inspired by Nichols to join NASA or pursue careers in STEM, there's no indication Ride was one of them. Ride requested an application to the astronaut program after reading an article in Stanford's student newspaper. She was one of 208 finalists (both men and women) out of 8,079 applicants.

    The reason Disney World in Florida is better (or at least larger) than Disneyland California is because when Disney purchased the plot in Anaheim, he was limited in size by the surrounding city. When buying land for the Florida location, Disney made sure to account for expanding the park over the years.

    • @GregoryFariss
      @GregoryFariss 9 месяцев назад +1

      Walt also hated all the cheesy motels around Disneyland and wanted his own hotels. WDW is 47 square miles, twice the size of Manhattan.

    • @TheSockMonkeyGuy
      @TheSockMonkeyGuy 9 месяцев назад +3

      That is not correct. In 1955 the Anaheim area was mostly orange groves and other agriculture with a few widely scattered rural towns. Disney purchased 160 acres of orange groves, which was as much land as the company could afford, and that is what limited the size of the park.
      Fun fact: Disney was not able to borrow enough money to purchase additional land for a parking lot, so the land used for the original parking lot (now occupied by California Adventure) was leased from the Dominguez family for many years.
      The reason that Disney had difficulty borrowing money to buy the land and build the park was that no one understood what he was planning to create. What Walt envisioned as a "theme park" did not yet exist, so everyone thought that he wanted to build a tawdry amusement park like Coney Island (which was a very tacky place and not somewhere to take a family). After Disneyland opened it became wildly successful, and people flocked to open motels and other businesses near the park. Disneyland was what caused the growth of the city, not the other way around.
      Walt knew that the explosive growth surrounding Disneyland would happen, but he simply didn't have enough money to buy additional land for a buffer zone around the park. When planning for Walt Disney World in Florida many years later, Walt made sure to purchase enough land to buffer the park(s) from the inevitable urban sprawl. However, this time around the company had plenty of money to do so.
      Fun fact: The amount of land that Disney owns in Florida is equal in size to the city of San Francisco.

    To be fair, these questions were oddly specific and all over the place in terms of subjects. There was geography, minor history and an odd question about a movie?? Hell a good half of these I didn't know because they were too all over the place. To equate those same kind of questions about another country of similar size I assume would also be a daunting task. IMO the US is a big place with a lot of distances of different people and cultures. Some states are the size of small countries and there can be a lot to learn about a single state. According to the FDA, it is a "pepper soda". Dr. Pepper was invented in 1885, Coca Cola in 1886 and Pepsi Cola in 1898. I got 35 of these, but I have also seen most of the sights that were in the trivia. James Madison proposed ~20 amendments to the Constitution of the United States immediately after it was ratified of those 20 amendments 10 passed immediately and became known as the Bill of Rights. Another amendment that Madison proposed was that if Congress voted to increase their pay then that pay increase should not happen until the next term began. We learned almost nothing about the U.S. at school here in Germany (just some facts about the declaration of independence and the tea party), but I got 15 questions right. Hope that's not too bad. And I love Kendra's german speaking. How come that you learned speaking that language?

    I hope yall enjoy your time here. You should definitely get some beignets while yall are here. Also if you have the opportunity to eat at Bobby Hebert's, you should.
