Queen of Spain María Bárbara the Bragança, the one who all these sonatas were written for, was not only the most skilled and extraordinary harpsichordist, but a "virtuosa" on guitar also. She played this and all at Court in Madrid were amazed by her taletns,. Sacarlatti knew what she was capable of.
Guitar as an instrument in classical music is so underappreciated and this marvelous collection is a good proof for that. Thanks for relaxing guitar sounds. 🍀💚
This recording is so crisp and well recorded that is is irresistible. The guitarist has an obvious sense of style that brings Scarlatti to life. Bravo!!!
Thanks to BC & Luigi Attademo. (BTW, Scarlatti wrote 555 sonatas for keyboard that we are aware of.) To state that he wrote "600 or so sonatas" is simply speculative. A more accurate title for this musical video would be "Domenico Scarlatti: 12 Sonatas Transcribed for Guitar."
I had not heard Mr Luigi Attademo play before and am enchanted by his sensitive , crisp and very melodious performance. Now I'll have to search out all his other music that's available on youtube. Wonderful listening, thank you.
Im beginning to think Luigi Attedemo can play more epic hard songs on classical guitar than anyone that's ever lived. Scarlatti is very difficult to play, and this guy already recorded all of Bachs Lute suite suites and Paganinis collection of solo guitar pieces. Its ridiculous. Who knows what else this maniac has done.
New discovery ! The virtuoso, lyrical sensibility of the great composer & performer are astounding becoming as one. These timeless soundscapes take you to a unique realm. Thank you for this great music, Brilliant Classics !
These sonatas just had to be composed for the guitar, so natural, fluently and beautifull they sound on this instrument. Im using Carlos Barbosa-Lima transcriptions myself which are challenging for me anyway
@@Artearq7 Si, creo que la música barroca y alguna anterior es lo que va mejor con nuestro cerebro. Lo que vino después es interesante y respetable, pero hay algo que no termina de llegarnos.
Brilliant and articulate, as an amateur i can only hope and work hard to try to achieve a fragment of this level of playing. Ps ive been searching high and for a high level transcript of k209, one of my favs. Does anyone know where i can find the exact sheetmusic here being played pretty please?
You can find all of the Scarlatti sonatas in the original keyboard (not the transcriptions) at imslp.org. They may have some transcriptions on that site.
Bruh dat shit is so fkn lit omg imma grab me guitar and shred some scarlatti! I never really wanted to learn his sonatas on my piano but this!!!! It’s so fiiiiiiiire boiiiiii
Dear Brilliant Classics, Good Evening From Mumbai, India. Many Thanks For This Fine Upload. I am really beginning to appreciate '"The Classical Guitar"' in more ways than one. It all started with your Magnificent Upload Of Tarrega -- The Guitar Edition and now this namely, the 12 Sonatas For The Guitar composed by Domenico Scarlatti. You Guys are really the ""Go To Channel'" with regard to Classical Music and Baroque Music In Particular. I immediately liked this upload on listening to it and tweeted about it too. Have a Great Week. This Classical Guitar Music transports one to another realm.
THE TRNSCRIPTIONS FOR GUITAR WORK OUT VERY WELL, I LIVE IN SPAIN AND THEY PRESERVE THEIR ORIGINAL IBERIAN CONTEXT. WHAT DOES NOT SEEM TO SUCCED IS VIOLIN TRANSCRIPTIONS. THEY JUST DON´T HAVE ANY GUTS TO THEM. TODAY THE GUITAR IS BARELY HEARD ANYWHERE IN SPAIN. MORE IN THE SOUTH AND NOTHING I THE NORTH. CHECKOUT JEAN RONDEAU SCARLATTI FANDANGO ! WOW
That is no true, these 12 sonatas is a kind of sellection, there is a much larger number of sonatas transcribed for guitar, a basic RUclips search and you can find them.
THE GUITAR IS CAPABLE OF MUCH MORE EXPRESSIVITY THAN IS THE GUITAR. SCARLATTI HAD BEEN THE TUTOR OF MARIA BARBARA BRAGANZA AND THE CUSTOM CONTINUED THOUGHT HIS LIFE. BUT THE EXPRESSIVE NUANCES OF DISSONANCES, APPOGIATURAS, EXTREME DISSONNCES, ETC ARE MORE IN EVIDENCE IN THE GUITAR. THEY EACE HAVE THEIR OWN DOMINION APART FROM ONE ANOTHER. TAKES TWO TO TANGO
There are two numbering systems, L for the old Longo edition and K for the newer Kirkpatrick system, so there's no typo. The K system is chronological as far as possible, though K1-30 are the Essercizi, the only sonatas published during Scarlatti's lifetime (and in England). It respects the fact that most sonatas were meant to be played in pairs, such as K208 and K209. K77 is also a pair but has a single number because the two were written end-to-end in the manuscript.
Poor guitar players....they have to play music that was not written for that instrument, because there is not good literature for music for guitar....the guitar is a very poor and limited instrument.....it is good for serenades for the girl friend, but not to be be played in a grand concert Salle
Manuel bro, there are so many many classical guitarists all over the world who have full time performing careers... Surely someone as well informed as you, would know that???

Guitar really? Scarlatti times today such a brilliant composer
How Scarlatti composed all of these great pieces is beyond mortals

The way it was composed. The way it was played. Like it.
A very beautiful performance of a well chosen selection of sonatas. They sound as if they were written for the guitar and have come home.
thank you for the upload...good music is an ecological necessity
Bellissima composizione del grande Domenico Scarlatti e bellissima esecuzione
This is my favorite non Bach guitar record from now on

It so good.
Absolutely wonderful! I love the different dynamics and timbres of the classical guitar.
Wonderful! I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, but his work sounds completely natural on the guitar. I bet Scarlatti would have loved this.
Ótima performance: interpretação, sonoridade e clareza sonora.

Hermosísimo de principio a fin
so nice
A seductive, sensual, lush Scarlatti as sculpted musically by this maestro whose style is reminiscent of the great Alirio Diaz.
a harpsichord is "a guitar with a cold" - Andres Segovia
lololol. never heard that one
A sound totally different from the harpsichord. The colourful vibrations and dynamics are impossible for the harpsichord. Thank you.
