It’s great to see young talent that wants to perform opera. I believe that Mark, and Jonathan Antione will be the opera stars that thrill audiences for many decades to come! Best of luck to both of them!
I don't understand any of the criticism in some of the comments. This performance was spot-on. He is only 15 and he belted that song out with power and precision. Bravo!!!
The fact is that most people don't know opera and don't understand what a powerful medium it is in and of itself. When they hear one of the more evocative pieces, such as Nessun Dorma, for the first time, it quite naturally blows them away. It's not just the voice; the medium itself has quite a bit to do with it. Opera communicates visceral emotion far more effectively than the swill regurgitated by the pop music industry.
There is no technical shortcoming in such a natural voice. Where do you like to find them.... his voice has still reserve as I can hear clearly. It is simply great...
Look at the date of the video Guys. He has gone on to be a smash hit in Australia and Asia and now has four albums under his belt. And his voice is as perfect as ever. Never was an opera singer but more a "pop"era singer.
I say again omg! I love Opera. I listened to it in my youth. It bought me comfort. Only now when comes internet I can listen to such beautiful voices again. Thank you. I know you will rise to the stars. Poveroti
Being an "opera sensation" IMHO means you are able to sing a WHOLE opera - without a mic, of course. And sing it 3 times a week for a whole season. All those youngsters in the talent shows have wonderful voices, yes, but I believe it's like with every other art: "5%talent, 95% training and self discipline and hard work".
Agreed. Jonathan Antoine has such a mature operatic voice for someone so young. He really has the tone and the vocal strength and acuity to carry this lovely song.
Yes, a baritone. There are a lot of Italians in Australia so I think there will be some very good undiscovered tenors out there. This aria is for a tenor voice.
No, I hadn’t heard of him before!!! He is wonderful! But that’s been a few years ago, hasn’t it?! I’m wondering if he continued on and also one Australia’s Got Talent!!!! He definitely could have! Thank you for bringing us this great video!
I would like to add one additional comment, if I may. Mark does something which only the best seem to be able to do: When he starts to sing, he does not build up anything, from the FIRST note there is a magnificent voice; and he maintains full power and only adds more as goes through the Aria. Just mind-boggling. If somebody has the time and knowhow, may he/she would favor as with giving as the details of Mark's musical education.
Mark just made me get teary-eyed. That's how I know he is good. His voice is that of an angel. What remarkable talent. Or maybe I am biased because this is one ARIA I love with my whole soul. Mark is beyond excellent.
These talent-based shows are easy to produce, because just about everyone can sing, or learn to sing, well. However, the ability to sing is only one small part of the career of a singer or musician. I would imagine, out of 100 people who have the ability to sing like a professional, only maybe one or two could actually handle the demands of the career, and the fame that could potentially be associated with it. Singing like an opera singer is one thing, succeeding at it professionally, is another.
You are right , the boy have a nice bariton voice , i guess if someone could teach him there will be a great singer , but like you say is not enough just ability , he must work hard , opera field is the hardest for singers.
Hahahahaha. Yeah, right -- anyone can "sing" just like anyone can "dance" or "write" a novel or play a sport or be a "lawyer." Sorry, mate, but talent and intelligence and capability are real things.
aleister crowley Did I say that they were not? My point is that you can learn to sing, but that is only one small element of what is required in order to make it show business. It's not tough to comprehend what I wrote.
Wonderful to have a fifteen yr old respecting his family to perform beautiful music, the angels are Rejoicing, I am sure he loves, respects his Mama!!!
More a high baritone, right now. It would be interesting to hear his lower register. As he is only 15 his voice will grow lower as it matures. Lauritz Melchior began as a good baritone and went up to a dramatic Wagner tenor. That too is an alternative. A good coach is necessary. Sing easier things with more middle register, Mark.
For any of you who cannot see this talented young man for what he is, well I am sorry for you. Music is not just what comes out of someones throat, it is more the huge amount of emotion, passion and love he puts into his music. I for one think he is one of the best talents I have heard in well...... ever. Plus I belive since this audition he has sold millions of albums, so I would say he has done alright. This should a lesson to people everywhere, if you have a passion for something, do it!
What many of you fail to understand: this kid has the raw talent and his voice will mature as he gets older, up into his forties/fifties, if he continues to work at his craft and he continues to sing on a daily basis.
it was meant to be a joke referencing how this man has done so much by the time he was 15. more than I have ever done in my entire life. but I appreciate your humor. sorry you didn't understand mine
The great Jussi Bjorling started his career as a baritone but was encouraged to train to be a tenor. Mark's voice is still young and developing. With proper training and practice he should manage the high notes in time.
His tones were perfect. Transitions perfect. Choice of register excellent. Notes...rhythm...diction...flawless. He picked his register and played it to perfection. The naysayers, like a one-legged person in the high-hurdles, say this and that. The bottom-feeders will always have the negative view. This squire has that indefinable It. And, frighteningly, will get Better.
+Keith Purdue He's not even singing in the original key. He's singing a much lower key because he's actually a baritone who thinks he's a tenor. Compare him to Pavarotti and you'll hear the difference.
Well, for all the nay- sayers and those watching his career, what have you to say now? Mark is a hard worker and has done very well for himself. He does need to learn which I am sure he does not need me to tell him. Mark seems more like a high baritone but his voice is wonderful. Bravo to you and thank you, Grandfather, for recognizing his gift and making a place for him! He has a long, bright career ahead.
Charles Henry Sorry I'm late on the draw here, but it is a song because it is a vocal work with a musical accompaniment. An aria is just a long song with one singer. But I see where you were going, my biggest pet peeve is people getting songs and pieces mixed up!
Jmanphipps But an aria is from a vocal work called an opera, a play set to music and entirely sung, with few exceptions. There are many classical composers who wrote songs or song cycles, Schumann, Brahms, Mahler, Hugo Wolf, Villa-Lobos. These are rightly called songs but when it comes from an opera it is called an aria, always has, always will be. People show their ignorance when they call an opera aria like NESSUN DORMA, a song.
Charles Henry I finally got it! It is generally a song but given the context and performance it would be an aria. Just as people think all tablets are iPads, but alas, they are not. Thanks for the effort and little lesson, friend!
+David Worobec Many pop singers do that, but when you represent yourself as an operatic singer then "no" unless you are a baritone and wish to perform it. I am glad he lowered it. He is too young to be banging his voice around. He should be working the "bel canto" music. Singing these hard core arias at this age is a sure way to shorten your career.
Incidentally, I think all the girls who commented here are more in love with HIM than his voice!! I agree with AbuYusuf....he has years of training ahead of him.
Hey: He's not "just anybody" who comes along and "...sings Nessun Dorma". Besides, Pavaratti was Il Tenore. Il! Plus, Give the kid a break, he's only age frickin' Fifteen (or was, several years ago) ... and he's had a decent career thusfar, or at least so the rumor goes...
Some tenors are lyric tenors like Pavarotti. They sing higher voiced roles by Rossini and Donizetti. Other tenors are dramatic tenors, heldentenors like Vickers. They sing lower voiced roles like Wagner. And some tenors can sing both. But they are all tenors. This young man has a good voice, and with training he could become a professional opera singer.
I shared this video with my voice teacher, and he said this guy lowered the key of the aria which is a big Opera "No! No!". Opera singers know this! You don't change the key of the aria! If you can't sing it in the key the composer wrote it, then don't sing it! Paul Potts also changed the keys of Tenor arias on his CD, and then sang them in ENGLISH!!! Seriously, what the hell?
Holy shit, this kid is incredible! Kingsley, I understand what you're saying but this kid is amazing and deserves a shot. I listened to this 4 times and he's really amazing!
I really don’t understand why anyone with a half decent voice for opera would go on a talent show. As for a 15 year old singing Nessun Dorma it is just ridiculous. Even if they intend to become cross over artists who can be enormously successful they still need training and guidance on repertoire so as not to damage their voice.
theblueman57 I meant I'll love to hear applause from them when I sing like that on stage. I meant I sang on stage at the Talent Show at my school and people I heard them said, "Wow!" When I sang a song that surprised them. It was really great. And they gave me applause, screams, and a standing ovation after I sang one of my favorite songs. Just thought I throw that out there. Like I said, I really like to hear applause and shocks people give while someone performs. So great job Mark Vincent!!!
I have no training.... I like.... Most people have no training.... we don't care about pitch perfect, we just care about how we feel when we listen to him and listening to him, I feel awesome!
As good as his voice is at age fifteen, I feel that his voice will change in about ten years to a glorious baritone....good luck Mark....don't ruin your voice by going to Las Vegas...keep studying and God Bless you.....
As a voice teacher, I must say I would love to work with this voice! Although he has many technical difficulties, the fact that he can still produce sound while practically choking on his tongue tells me that with some moderate tweaking he could be a great baritone ... sadly not a tenor as the piece implies.
+Erin Smith You are entirely correct. I am a violinist and as such i am constantly striving to improve my tone so that i may mimic the human voice. Alas it will never happen, but the journey is very interesting indeed.
He very much has the potential of a tenor voice, since he can sing the high notes virtually without training. The majority of fully trained operatic baritones would find this aria almost insurmountable. He is simply a boy whose voice hasn't fully settled yet. His head register still requires development, as you would expect at only 15. His chest register also needs more work, but his voice must be allowed to settle in its own good time first. Teachers who didn't know what they were talking about have pronounced me everything from a baritone with bottom C of the bass, to a tenore robusto, - until I met a bel canto teacher who properly understood register development & enabled me to sing full voice F's above tenor high C. Only once the registers have reached full development & have been correctly blended will the voice signify its own placement & tessitura. To attempt to categorise it while it lies in an immature undeveloped state is imposing upon the voice rather than instilling functional freedom so that the voice can find its own fach. Both Caruso & Richard Tauber were both told by teachers that they had no voice & should give up any attempt at a singing career. The rest, as they say, is history.
The guy has a lot of raw talent. He has to hone it though. To a bunch of regular humans this looks positively fantastic, but to people who know opera, it could be a heck of a lot better. As for this "World's Newest Opera Sensation" deal, he's definitely no Pavarotti. He has potential though. He just needs to get some training from some REAL opera singers.
EL MUNDO ESTÁ LLENO DE TALENTOS, Y VOCES EXTRAORDINARIAS, OJALA TODOS TENGAS LA OPORTUNIDAD DE TRIUNFAR, NO SÓLO COMO ARTISTAS, SINO COMO SERES HUMANOS.
It is certainly impressive. Beatiful resonance and moving expression. For 15 years old young man it is excellent. I am 11 years old and also sing Nessun Dorma. I will appreciate your feedback.
has a lot of potential.. he is young, body and spirit.. a good coach and mentor and another dozen years to mature both body, mind and spirit and he should be great
It's transposed waaay down, and his tongue and facial tension tell me this is more a tonal impersonation than true operatic technique. Look how tense his tongue is, all flipped up. Not that great...even for one of these crap shows.
Well he IS 15. When I was 21 I sounded like total shit. Really. Super weak voice and I couldn't understand why every other 15-25 year old had their voices so developed. I still have recordings of me from then. Then I turned 28 and started to study opera and now I'm closer to Renato Bruson/dramatic type of voice. Who knows wtf happened but I'm convinced that everyone is born different with talents that don't come out until surprising times of your life. Who knows maybe this kid can develop greater technique as he nears his late 20's. Sounds like a tenor that, at 15, can't sing above a G correctly. That's probably why he dropped the key on this so low. Who knows! Maybe he'll hit vocal puberty @ 25 or so. Gotta relax that tongue and jaw, though.
oxy occi Well from your experience on opera singing, I bet your pretty good. I sang since I was 11. I started opera singing at 18 and I'm 19 now so I have 1 year of self-taught opera singing and my friends think I'm good. I didn't post a song of my opera singing yet, but I am thinking about it. I wish you luck on your opera singing career.
oxy occi So basically you're sorta chastising me for making an accurate assessment of his voice, then taking the same criticisms, and making them your own. I really don't particularly have a *problem* with that, considering I wrote the comment four months ago, but a group of reality show audience members going crazy for a crappy, undertrained voice and the talent trolls coming out of the woodwork? Well that's nothing new. I certainly never stated he couldn't get better, but if someone doesn't take a hold of this dude's training soon, he'll do irreparable damage that no amount of training will fix. I am a clasically trained vocalist who makes a weekly paycheck performing in musicals, which I've done professionally since 1996. I have performed in 48 states and three countries. I think I'm qualified to mention when I hear someone with some potential putting himself on the wrong track. Vocal technique is FAR less about miracles happening in surprising times of your life, and far more about having good tools from early on, and learning how to maintain your instrument.
Anni Psy Yes. At face value, it does "sound" good. Note that I made not any comment about it sounding like he was swinging a bag of cats, or anything like that. I do not in any way feel I was "searching for a negative," I have sufficient experience in this field to make simple observations about his physical strain that tell me if he keeps this up, in a year he will have no voice.
I appreciate your respect for great music! I often wish that competitors on talent shows like this would attempt 'Every Valley', from Handel's 'Messiah'.
Ma cavolo ma possibile che nei talent show i cantanti "lirici" maschi (che siano bassi, baritoni o tenori ) cantino solo questa noia di "Nessun dorma"?
Mark Vincent made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Rigoletto (baritone) in the Verdi opera. He will make his debut at London's Covent Garden next fall in Simone Boccanegra. He has received the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) from Queen Elizabeth II.
Who could believe that this is a FIFTEEN year old!!! And to get an order of the British Empire, when you consider that there is no British Empire is especially amazing.
This kid STILL gives me chills. I hope he has a great voice coach that will bring out every bit of his wonderful gift to the world.
It’s great to see young talent that wants to perform opera. I believe that Mark, and Jonathan Antione will be the opera stars that thrill audiences for many decades to come! Best of luck to both of them!

Wow! Mark, you WILL have a career! Mazel Tov! Tears in my eyes, bella voce.
That second where he makes the pivotal high note is a face of absolute bliss……..congratulations Mark, simply stunning.
He was thinking of his granpa when he was singing this song... And that is were great singers get there voice from, the heart.
Well done Mark, at 15yrs old you have a bright future ahead of you, stay focused, practice, and the world is yours.
That kid has got a great natural voice. cant wait to hear what he sounds like in a few years when his voice fully matures
Yes indeed Christopher.

Why do people applaude *while* he sings? You can't appreciate the performance when you're clapping. Amazing kid
The producers are off camera telling them to. They have no idea about opera rules.

Actually Mark Vincent is a tenor. He may have the baritone color but his tessitura sounds more of a true tenor.
he is a tenor

I don’t think he’s a baritone, I think he’s more of a spinto tenor; a tenor that can go into baritone range, but is still a tenor
The young man has a voice but it is being pushed beyond its capacity. it needs to be trained before he loses his voice..

theblueman57 I meant I'll love to hear applause from them when I sing like that on stage.
Michael Krueger
iVoltScopez V2 I
me too. It's so rude and ignorant
I have no training.... I like.... Most people have no training.... we don't care about pitch perfect, we just care about how we feel when we listen to him and listening to him, I feel awesome!
needs polishing but good voice none the less
Fantastic, sensationell, I don´t know what to say - at that age!! BRAVO young man.
As good as his voice is at age fifteen, I feel that his voice will change in about ten years to a glorious baritone....good luck Mark....don't ruin your voice by going to Las Vegas...keep studying and God Bless you.....
Fifteen years old?????? He is magnificent! He has such a gift! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!
i think all opera singer have a beauty voice on the world,,becuause to sing a song of opera it's so hard for me
He's already come so far! So I wouldn't worry about him. The uni we go to is manned by the industry's finest.

I am very Happy And Very Proud to have this young beautiful man amongst my collection
what a voice for a 15 year old boy... but it is definetly the wrong piece... his baritone just does not fit for Nessun Dorma.
Mind Blowing..... Go Far! So lovely Mark...
Pavarotti wasn't Pavarotti at 15
TheLoneShlock, you have to be negative. . . . have a nice day
It is certainly impressive. Beatiful resonance and moving expression. For 15 years old young man it is excellent. I am 11 years old and also sing Nessun Dorma. I will appreciate your feedback.
He changed the key.... down.....
+Daniel Folesi he did -.-
Yep, no high C but A.
has a lot of potential.. he is young, body and spirit.. a good coach and mentor and another dozen years to mature both body, mind and spirit and he should be great
It's transposed waaay down, and his tongue and facial tension tell me this is more a tonal impersonation than true operatic technique.
Did u see 2:25 ?yeahhh.he sounds good to me and the people that stood up for him.heh.why r u searchin for a negative here?
oxy occi Well from your experience on opera singing, I bet your pretty good.
@@SuperHartline He's 25 years old.
@InBoccaChiusa: He most certainly did NOT make his operatic debut at the MET. Nor will he be singing at Covent Garden. Stop lying.
