I’ve been on the fence on getting this, there’s one cheap used locally, and this vid helped me decide. I play drop C but tuned all 4ths on fifth through first strings so it really helped to hear it played in drop C. Thx!!
I'm really happy you got something out of this video. Drop c is enough of a jump from standard where you need to start thinking about approaching tones differently. Uzi works really well with it.
Wonderful review- very helpful overview of the settings, etc., and it was fun hearing you get to know the pedal as you went along. Thanks! And we love Piper!
Thank you for joining in on the journey. It's really fun and interesting doing blind tests on equipment. You can find yourself in a very unique position, approaching it very different compared to how other might. A lot of the times I need to do follow up videos as I may miss things on my first run-through, due to been informed afterwards of some nuance. Piper is a very peoples cat, she loves being around people. I hope you find other videos on this channel that entertain, inform and inspire conversations.
I’ve only been learning to play guitar for 2 months and loving it but this is my first visit to your channel and wow great review of the pedal but I wasn’t expecting that awesome song you played towards the end, you sound pro! Can you suggest any videos that have tutorials for playing a few riffs like you played? Thanks for the video buddy
Thank you for checking out my channel. You are going to love your guitar journey! I've been playing for around 26 years now, and I'm still learning and developing more stills! From what I remember, the full bar chord was the biggest challenge for me, that took close to a year I think for me to get smoothly. I don't know any learning videos sorry, as I was self taught guitarist. I had lessons in singing and piano growing up so I knew music theory. RUclips wasn't around when I started playing and recording songs.
Thanks for posting this. Probably it’s pronounced OOZEE like the gun! What other boost pedals do you like? The 33 and the Savage drive are hard to find in the US.
Thanks Zack, I never thought of it pronounced like the gun! Haha I've always pronounced it U Z I... I think that says a lot about Australia not been a gun enthusiast nation... There are sooo many good boost pedals out there. StonegateFx are a Canadian brand that do some really cool boost pedals. TC Electronic Spark boost is awesome. I'm not sure what is easily accessible in the US at the moment...
Thank you! Now I know I'm not getting this pedal. It sounded fine with your 6 string, but I've got a 7 string also drop G and it's really important for the pedal to take the low notes for me.
@@metalprognosis that one looks great, but I'm looking for a pedal in the price range of UZI's. Something around $40-50. I'm considering Joyo Extreme Metal and TC Electronic Fang. Have you ever had some experience with those?
Great video :)..... this pedal was supposedly based on the friedman be-od pedal which is more than double the price. I own both. The uzi has a mid knob, which I like, the friedman doesn't. But the uzi can keep up with all the other expensive distortion that I own and love.....but ya on my 7 string I tune to a, it doesn't do well...I prefer it with my 6 standard tuning guitars for playing old school thrash or hair band style riffs and solos
Thank you isaac, I play in C tuning and it handles that tuning really well. I didn't know it was based off the Friedman pedal. I have done a couple more videos with the UZI, matching it up with different equipment and getting some really interesting results.
It sounded alright in the mix, the tone settings could've been better perhaps. The bias control actually shifts the EQ curve to a British style tone to the left, and an American style tone to the right. Overall good video! \m/
Very cool, that is good to know about the bias control. Thanks for that. I always feel like I could invest more time in tone shaping, yet I'm paranoid my videos would go for too long. I might do a fussy video where I show how in-depth I can really go when setting up for a recording session.
@@yancesar3961 I'm sure how it would sound, but it sounds interesting! I've never 6" speakers for guitars before. How do other pedals sound with your setup?
Marvellous review. I used to own the metal muff with top boost and switched to the noise gate nano version and it was a big fail since the last one is very compressed. But also the original metal muff is. So I need to get a better distortion pedal. I thought in the biyang metal-end pedal (which I recommend you to check it if you haven't), since it's so affordable, versatile and organic but it's too big for my board, so I was also thinking on the joyo uzi. In some videos it sounds too much "trebbly" and I don't like that but your dialing convinced me. I didn't get your entire signal path, straight to mix or how it was? kudos
Glade you found something useful from this video Fernando. In this video I had the UZI go straight into my interface - then go through STL Ignite Emissary Amp sim - and finished off with Pulse IR cab simulator. I hope that helps. I have done a couple of other video chaining it differently with the UZI if you wanted to check them out.
i have 2 questions (because i have this pedal): 1. what boost pedal would you recommend for this distortion? 2. Is it good if i stack this pedal to joyo ultimate drive pedal (joyo ultimate drive pedal acting as a boost pedal for uzi joyo)? edit: im just new in building pedal series...hope you can help me...
Really good questions. If you have this pedal and want to build on your tone more... Try some adding before and after it. If you are going into a combo lets say, give the amp a bit of dirt to work with. Then you can put a clean boost before it, I would stress too much about going super fancy with your boost, just a one knob volume boost will do, as you have the EQ to shape on the joyo and the amp. Plus it may help with keeping things low in costs and using mostly what you already have. If you use the Ultimate drive, test first to see how much dirt is naturally gives off just by turning it on, if it's not much, then totally try using that as a clean boost.
@@metalprognosis thanks a lot...this is the answer i was waiting the whole time...hope you can make a video out of it...or just a short clip...thanks sir...very much aprreciated answer from you...after i bought this joyo uzi and watched your review about it i totally like all your reviews and videos...
I use the joyo power cables for all my pedals that take 9V, I stay away from using batteries where I can. You should be good to use any 9v power supply that is designed for music equipment.

will this sound that good on my orange crush combo 20 watts , on its clean channel ? what is your tuning? i have my guitar on C standard and another one on E Standard
Hi Doneroll. You should be able to get better sound through your orange crush, specially using your own EQ band straight from the amp. In this video the guitar I'm using is in drop C tuning (it's kind of my new standard tuning haha)
