    That croc was hanging around the boat ramp it probably had to be moved on, in saying that the bloke who walked down for a swim is a total goose.
    The next bloke who launched his boat might of been in a bit of strife it was basically sitting on the ramp submerged.

    • @WickedWildlife
      @WickedWildlife  Год назад +1

      I am totally open to the idea of crocodiles like that being managed on a case by case basis, most of the big crocs I’ve worked with in captivity where removed from hanging around boat ramps.
      This recent case is just an example of this behaviour though

      @@WickedWildlife Well, true. I thought about that after my initial comment and hoped you'd correct me. And yeah, it's true in many areas. I lived up around Bloomfield/Wujal Wujal and most of the locals up there have a deep respect for the salt-water crocodile (bilkamul).
      Which I guess should be expected, given that the Bloomfield River had, when I was living there, five crocs over 3 metres living in the river between the mouth and the community.
      There is/was also a croc over 5 metres at the North end of Weary Bay at the mouth of Plantation Creek.
      With respect to the subject, I had to warn some German tourists one morning at a boat ramp near Bloomfield/Ayton. They'd camped the night and when I was driving past, one of them was walking down the boat ramp to have a wash. There was a BIG warning sign at the ramp...in many languages as you know, including German.
      Another time, my partner was talking to a couple from Melbourne at the Cooktown wharf. Their exact words to her were, "These warning signs about crocodiles are just here for the tourists, aren't they? We've been here for a few days and haven't seen one."
      Even beyond that, crocs need to be protected from retaliatory removals or shootings. They are beautiful (well, to me) big lizards that play a key role in the ecosystem. And to see one basking on a mud bank is something special.

    I'm From Innisfail and anybody who knows anything about Innisfail knows the Johnson river is infested with crocodiles. But the locals have learnt how to live side by side with these incredible beasts by simply not interacting with them unless necessary and being aware if we are entering theyre territory that we need to be extremely cautious and respectful of the danger to both of us

    • @WickedWildlife
      @WickedWildlife  Год назад +1

      I completely agree, common sense and a healthy dose of caution should be enough, but unfortunately a lot of folks lack that, fairly certain it was in Innisfail a few years back a young bloke was attacked showing off in front of a back packer girl?

    Tbh at first I was like, hmm idk.
    But I also feel like having laws in place would prevent things like people filming themselves and if something does go wrong when someone breaks the law the reply won’t be to shoot the croc it’ll be “well they broke the law”. I don’t think laws should always stop people, nor will they, but it’s a public declaration that we have decided that the action is bad behaviour.
