  • In this video we visit Redcliffe, a station on Perth's new Airport Line which opened on the 9th October 2022. It's an underground station that serves as a transit interchange for the suburb of Redcliffe and surrounds. It's also the closest station to Perth Airport terminals 3 and 4, which can be accessed by a 900 metre walk or a short bus ride.
We start the video at the underground train platforms where we see Transperth B Series EMU's arrive and depart the station. We then head outside to the bus interchange (which wraps around the station building providing easy transfer between train & bus services with plenty of amenity, Melbourne take note...) where we see various Transperth buses. Redcliffe is served by bus routes 39, 290, 291, 292, 293, 902, and high frequency routes 935 & 940.
Being Transperth though we mostly see Volvo B7RLE's or B8RLE's with Volgren 'Optimus' bodies. We do see some older Mercedes Benz OC500LE's with Volgren 'CR228L' bodies. There was an older Mercedes Benz O405NH parked at the station which you may see in some of the shots, but we don't see it move.
Overall I like Redcliffe station; it's a nice looking station that has a functional design providing good amenity for train and bus passengers while providing easy transfer between services.
This video was filmed on the 10th October 2022; the first day of revenue services on the line after the community open day the day prior, so there's a lot less crowds around compared to last time.

Your ending statement is quintessentially Perth, honestly.

I can't not express how excited I am to be going back home this year and to ride these train again. They're the reason I think trains are awesome. I used to ride the B from Rockingham to Perth and Perth to Fremantle pretty much every week

Great video. The ending did make me laugh. If I designed a public transport system, I'd base the system off of that in Perth, the trains from Sydney and the transport lines from Perth with an orbital rail line like what is being proposed in Melbourne.

Amazing video! Sadly when I went to Perth back in 2019 the rail link was still under construction. Is the B-Series the only train model deployed on the Forrestfield Airport Link?
Edit: that's also a pretty interesting overhead rail, interesting they don't use normal overhead lines but use an electrified rail, which is also strange as the Perth system doesn't use a third rail but overhead pantographs but this one utilizes an overhead electrified rail.

Thanks for your comment. Yes the B Series is the only train used on Airport Line services as they are capable of reaching the lines top speed of 130km/h, whereas the A Series cannot.
The tunneled sections of the line utilises an overhead conductor rail presumably to save space within the tunnels, but the rest of the line in the surface sections utilises the usual overhead wire.

All is well with me in Shepparton. My house is well-away from the river so I got no flood damage.

I must have missed it, how do you get from Redcliffe Station to T1 & T2 at the airport.

The line looks brilliant. In the long future, I plan to visit Perth one day. The overhead rail looks like the same one that Sydney Metro uses

Yes the underground section of the line utilises an overhead conductor rail similar to that on the Sydney Metro.
