I literally just ordered this to make a model of the Mandolorian Jedi cosplay I am doing. This way before I 3d print/fabricate anything I can try colors, etc out. This video has helped in planning greatly!
I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Was driving me nuts on how to make a strap and your idea was by far the absolute best!! Works like a charm!
Great video!! You did exactly what I wanted to do. I’m just starting to get back into model building and getting my feet wet again with Boba Fett and the Mandalorian from Bandai. Slowly getting paints and tools as I go. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. Truly inspirational.
I just finished a kit-bash of the Shoretrooper and Stormtrooper into a sniper. I used an airbrushed Kleenex tissue for the camouflage cape and wrapping around the rifle. I may explore the gauze idea though so thanks for the idea. My rifle turned out similar to yours. It was a kit-bash of three different rifles, a Gundam magazine, a TIE interceptor landing skid, and an old 1/35th scale lamp post.
Excellent work on your Mando sniper! I have toyed with the idea of getting this kit and painting it up based on one of the Joe Johnson concept illustrations for Boba Fett, that would look ace!
The green armor makes him look a lot like a traditional Boba Fett figure. I wonder if some camo variation in the green might be nice. I do really like the copper and how well it goes with your fabric colors. Really like the rifle you constructed. It has definitely made me think of what could be done with this figure. Good work as always and thanks for the inspiration.
Oh my god this is amazing. I feel bad I've only got round to seeing this one now because it's just an incredible build. Thanks for showing your changing your mind about the colour scheme because that's actually really helpful. I love what you did with creating the sniper rifle for this guy. Seriously man, watching you channel is like therapy. Keep at it fella.
To solve your problem with the gauze, you need to use PVA glue thinned with water. That's also called white glue. You can add acrylic paint to the glue and water mix. As to a ratio of paint and water you'll find what works for you. You can form the cape too. Fold over a corner, lay it over some paint brush handles and let it dry. Don't try to do it all in one go. Build up coats until it's like you want. It gets stiff as it dries so it might be easier to form later. Acrylic paint works best on it as it soaks into the fabric. Great job on your build. It looks outstanding !
I love this creation! In the wrap up you say it took you longer to build than usual, but for my eye the extra time put in shows. The sponge technique for camo is amazing and the chips on the armor is great. Hope you decide to create more custom builds like this. This is one of my favorite video of yours.
Thank you! I am quite happy with how it came out, even if it did take a bit longer than usual. You can be sure there'll be more customs like this in the future! :)
Excellent build. I really like the way the camouflage under suit turned out. It looks very military. The cape/net is OK. Finding a suitable fabric that will look "in-scale" might be tough.
Good job Modelchill! Another fine Bandai kit. I just love the custom sniper rifle, and the netting around the muzzel/silencer. Those spare parts sure come in handy! Also the uniform colours are quite well coordinated.. the bronze looks nice with the green and tan. Very original. Plus, I was pleased to hear at least one squeaky foot. :)
I kinda wanna make this kit now... if I were to make just a random nonspecific Mando though... they'd have to be in Deathwatch armor, I just love that era in Mandalorian history. I'd probably have to figure out a way to make the standard Deathwatch Thigh armor/holsters that they got on sale from Costco or something, cuz literally all of them have those.
Daaamn camo looks dope and has me wanting to blow even more money on a THIRD 1/12th stormtrooper to make a camo one haha Amazing quality stuff from you as always!
Very nice job there! I might have to get myself a Boba Fett! I finally got around to building my Bandai TIE Interceptor and gave the stickers a try. I think I'll stick with the decals. I didn't build my kit at home where my decaling supplies are. Or maybe next time, I'll just paint them.
Excellent job mate. I wish I could make models as well as this. I suppose I could take the time to learn but as I spend most of my time drunk, I’d don’t know how I’d fit it into my schedule...
Great work as always, man! You really turned this kit into something special! I have a question for you: when you spray on the gloss clear coat, do you typically spray it on wet (like a significantly thick coat) or is a good once-over adequate to protect the paint underneath?
Thank you! No with the Tamiya Gloss Clear I always do thin coats. I've been burned in the past when accidentally spraying on thick coats (see my TIE Interceptor build) where it started to shrink up and leave a rough texture. Having said that, the few times I've used Vallejo Acrylic gloss from the airbrush and that seems to work better in thick coats.
I know this video has been out awhile and you probably figured out a solution but you could've used RIT fabric dye for the cloth pieces. I enjoy your videos it's very relaxing and informative.
Fabrics are always a pain in the rear but the bandage, although it didn't quite work as you hoped, was I though quite innovative. Perhaps cloth with a wire frame sown in to mould the shape you want?
ModelChili Scale Models yeah I'm terrible with a sowing needle but it may work best. Bit of wire sown into the lining to keep the shape as fabric at this scale lacks the weight to keep it in place though apparently wetting the fabric helps to mould. If you can get camo pattern in a small enough size. The bandage doesn't look that bad though.
Would you ever consider doing a Gunpla build video? These videos are very informative for people like me that have only just started getting in to model building.
I dig it a lot. Nice work. It might have needed some more weathering dark smudges her and there. But the overall look is superb. I have a question: where did you get the elastic for the gun?
First off, this is amazing, gotta apreciate the time and effort put into these pieces of art, i collect action figures but im thinking of jumping in to model kits and videos like these really push me towards making that decision. Second, i have a question, do you brush down/wash/clean the plastic before painting it?
Thank you! Not always, if the plastic feels a bit greasy i'll give it a wash. otherwise I don't usually bother. Bandai kits usually come out pretty clean.
Such an amazing build! BTW, what has happened to Ian from IC Model Kits & Sculpts?? I loved his YT channel, but I can't find it anymore - nor the Google+ page, nor anything on Facebook. Is he alright? ??
I like how your air compressor turns off when not in use, which model is it? I just bought a brand new sparmax ac-27. It doesn't have that feature though, I'll probably get one like that when this one burns out:/
It's just a cheap basic small compressor, it only turns on when it needs air. Does yours have an air tank? Those ones will operate without compressing if the tank's full.
Awesome build man! the way you put together the sniper rifle so oldschool and kit bashing right there! BTW how did you come up with the design -theme ? did you do like a sketch or used reference photos or was it done on the fly or just had like a mental picture of what you wanted as final result? What about building a team of 4 or 5 special forces? sniper, demolitions, comms, hand to hand and the like?
Thank you! It was all just formed in my mind as I was painting and building it. The figure itself came out exactly what I had in mind so was really happy with that. The netting on the other hand... Yeah a spec ops team sounds like a great idea. I've got a couple of spare droids I could also use.
Hello sir. I believe you also turned this ESB boba fett to the ROTJ boba fett on one of your videos i could be wrong but I remember using your wash technique as it was very effective at giving the under cloth a rugged dirty look . Thank you
That was on IC Scale Arts and Hobbies channel, he's sadly shut it down and the videos aren't available. You can still find him on Instagram as Somnium Effects.
Get some cheese cloth from the supermarket and use Rite dye to color it. It won't get stiff and the threading will make it look more like a net rather than a carpet
Hi model chilli just wounding the tweezers you're holding at the end of you're vid what are the called & how much did they cost you ? Cheers. As for you're videos I love them keep them coming yours Carm 👍🏻
4 min. into the video good job so far. I rarely see anyone use the technique of holding the parts down with double sided tape for spraying. Interesting. I guess I will see if it worked by the end of the video. Could I have waited until the end to comment? Yes. Did I? No.
I mainly do that just because I don't have anything to mount sticks on lol. Sometimes parts do fly off if they're not stuck down properly. I wouldn't say it's a better way of doing it, just one of my peculiar habits. :p
Oh. Well as they say, Necessity is the mother of Invention. I just use Alligators clips on Bamboo BBQ scewers. Then again, I only paint after I have glued and sanded 2 halfs of a component together so the paint wont interfere with the Tamiya Cement. To each their own. Love the paint job.
Hi. Love your videos! You are so good at it. I just ordered that bandia boba and strorm tropper. i want to paint them and weather them. I have a question: I'm new to modeling and was wondering if you could suggest a few things for my tools. Paints and glue companies (non airbrush) suggestions please and thanks.
Thank you! Some good basic starter tools are Tamiya Extra Thin glue, and any acrylic paints like Tamiya or Vallejo. I'm planning to do a video on some of the tools and supplies I use, just gotta get around to it lol.
Very cool original design. I've seen the trick with sponge for painting chipping before, but never to paint camouflage; it produced a very interesting look. As for a name, how about: Olan Raaz?
I literally just ordered this to make a model of the Mandolorian Jedi cosplay I am doing. This way before I 3d print/fabricate anything I can try colors, etc out. This video has helped in planning greatly!

I have to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Was driving me nuts on how to make a strap and your idea was by far the absolute best!! Works like a charm!
Glad I can help!
I had a full scale version of the rifle built for my Mando. Creds to you.
Wait, based off my design? Can I see photos? :D
yeah sure np, will be taking pics today for application.
where the photos at
Just from your voice I can tell you’re an incredibly patient person. This was very cathartic to watch. :)
Thanks!
I really like the cloth the way it came out looks really good
Thank you! 😊
EPIC custom paint job. Great tips and tricks tutorial. I have the standard Bandai Fett model. No painting needed.
Great video!! You did exactly what I wanted to do. I’m just starting to get back into model building and getting my feet wet again with Boba Fett and the Mandalorian from Bandai. Slowly getting paints and tools as I go. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. Truly inspirational.

Great Job. "This is the Way."
Fantastic paint job!
Cheers :)
Congrats mate! Great job!
Fantastic build, lots of great tips. Well done.
Thank you. ☺
Outstanding build.
Thank you. :)
I love it! It would be cool to make a costume out of this design.
Thanks! Someone did make the gun for their own Mando outfit.
@@modelchili Oh nice! That might inspire me to do something similar.

Awesome Sam as usual

Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Looks great, I do agree that you may wanna replace the cape.
I just finished 2 custom Mandos myself.
Maybe cut cape into centimeter width strips and try to layer it? looks fine as is though great work

Great job on your build. It looks outstanding !
Thanks! Yeah that sounds like a good technique, cheers.
ModelChili Scale Models It's a modeling technique that's been around forever and you can do a lot with it. I'm always happy to help a fellow modeler.
Excellent work, and I very much like the sniper rifle of your idea .Take care . .AG. P.s. maybe name him Chili Bounter :)
Thank you! Cool name. ;)
Looks great!!
I bought a stormtrooper last Saturday. Very impressed. Next trooper is going to be a Marine trooper.
Nice.
Brilliant work - enjoyed that thanks
Looks like a gillie suit cape. I like it.
Yeah it's leaning that way. I thought about sticking on some scale leaves but I'd have to go out and buy some. Maybe I will eventually.
I love this creation! In the wrap up you say it took you longer to build than usual, but for my eye the extra time put in shows. Fantastic as usual 👍

dude, that looks freaking awesome

Those spare parts sure come in handy!
Also the uniform colours are quite well coordinated.. the bronze looks nice with the green and tan. Very original.
Plus, I was pleased to hear at least one squeaky foot. :)
Thanks Vaughan! Ha I thought you might like that squeak. ;)
I really do hope that you and IC-Art build the General Grievous kit. I cant wait to see what the 2 of you do with it.
I still have to get one myself, but I'm pretty sure Ian's got one, so I'm looking forward to that!
Dude, that video quality is kick ass. What kind of camera and video editing software are you using?
Cheers! I film with a Galaxy S8 and edit using Adobe Premiere.
60 frames per second makes a big difference. I hope ModelChili doesn't get tired of the larger file sizes and upload time required : )
Not at all! My internet connection is pretty good so it doesn't take too long.
Looks great.
Cheers!
Awesome!
I would love more like this
Model Chili I LOVE what You did! Way to think outside the box (no pun intended).
Thanks Shannon!
What a masterpiece!

Fantastic custom. Mind blowing on the customised sniper rifle. Maybe a custom Kashyyk Trooper next using the Scout Trooper kit?
Thank you! Oh yeah I'd love to build that figure!
Daaamn camo looks dope and has me wanting to blow even more money on a THIRD 1/12th stormtrooper to make a camo one haha
Amazing quality stuff from you as always!
Thank you! Haha I did this partly because I'm too scared to attempt a Commander Gree, so this was the next idea.
I've been buying the stormtrooper Han ones they're cheeper, I've even found some at 50% off in few local stores
Just got one of these kits for Christmas, some great inspiration here!
Nice!
Beautiful video Chili! Love the innovation here
Cheers! Yeah I do like how he came out.
Badass!!!! Amazing job.
Thanks!

That looks amazing mate I'm thinking about doing something with my boba fett now
Cheers!
Awesome like always! Nice to see you again.
Thank you!
You are the best dude, Boba comin the mandalorian Tv Show ;)
excellent result!!
Thank you!
It might seem simple but using sponge to create the dappled camouflage is really clever. Great little tip that one.
Cheers! Yeah I wasn't sure if it'd work out but I'm pretty happy with it. It kinda reminds me of that digital camo you see everywhere.
"Like or dislike"...dislike and we will find you, WE WILL FIND YOU!
Excellent job mate. I wish I could make models as well as this. I suppose I could take the time to learn but as I spend most of my time drunk, I’d don’t know how I’d fit it into my schedule...
This is epic!
Cheers!
I've been waiting for this. Going to settle down with food and drink and enjoy the masterclass.
Hope you enjoyed!
Perhaps you could create a Din Djarin version with shiny Beskar armor for our veiwing pleasure? :)
Try using ladies tights for material to make the cloak. They come in different denier so you can choose a thickness that works best for you?
Showed me some new ways to do model thank you for that I'm new to it all but I hope to be able to do the same in a copple years
Awesome, glad I can help!
That is awesome
Thanks!
Man that looks fucking sick. Please never stop, love your videos!
Thank you! I'm not planning to stop any time soon. :)

Very very very......super nice ! Yes.
Thanks!
Do you do commissions for Bandai kit builds like these?
Would you ever consider doing a Gunpla build video? These videos are very informative for people like me that have only just started getting in to model building.
Possibly.
Very Nice job! His name is Mambo Fet!
Thank you! Haha nice one. ;)
Also can this one be done with brushes if you don’t have an air brush
I was not sure at all on sponge dabbing green over tan for camo, but damn that worked out well.
I dig it a lot. Nice work. It might have needed some more weathering dark smudges her and there. But the overall look is superb. I have a question: where did you get the elastic for the gun?
Instead of painting the bandage have you thought about dyeing it? Retains flexibility whilst giving you a colour you want
First off, this is amazing, gotta apreciate the time and effort put into these pieces of art, i collect action figures but im thinking of jumping in to model kits and videos like these really push me towards making that decision. Second, i have a question, do you brush down/wash/clean the plastic before painting it?

Thanks!
The netting honestly reminds me of RotJ on Endor, so def not a fail by any means
Thanks!
Such an amazing build!

For some reason I like it when you put no music in your videos. When you start to work on the details i just like to sit in watch.
Thanks, this sort of feedback really helps! I often struggle deciding whether to include music or not, so it's nice to know it's appreciated!
When you airbrush, do you have some sort of ventilation system or is it not needed for the amount you airbrush?
No I don't use any ventilation. All my paints are water based acrylics and don't smell. When I use enamel based spray cans I do it outside.
Awesome build man! the way you put together the sniper rifle so oldschool and kit bashing right there! BTW how did you come up with the design -theme ? did you do like a sketch or used reference photos or was it done on the fly or just had like a mental picture of what you wanted as final result?

what size was the drill bit you use to make the holes?also what kind of airbrush do you use?
About .75mm I think. And just a dual action airbrush.
I f*cking want one! Love this, would love to see some more custom builds
Thanks! I definitely hope to do more.
Great idea to use a Qtip to wipe the over-paint without disturbing the recessed silver lines.
Thanks. It's one of the reasons I apply a gloss coat before doing detail painting and weathering so it's easier to clean up like that. :)
Very nice.
Thanks. :)
Just curious, why did you use a heat gun when you were airbrushing?
Just speed up the paint drying process.
I want to get another copy of this kit and the Din Djarin Mando kit to do a generic Mando
Where did you learn to paint like that and
Is it possible to learn this power ?
Many years of trial and error, lots of ruined kits and patience. :p
It's just a fucking masterpiece.
Thanks!
Get some cheese cloth from the supermarket and use Rite dye to color it. It won't get stiff and the threading will make it look more like a net rather than a carpet
I did think about dying it, maybe will try that next time. Cheers for the suggestion!
Did you say that the paint would mess up the fett?
lol yes, nice freudian slip there.
Dude, if you went into stop animation, you'd have it all!!! Making custom models, and making videos with them!!!!
Hi model chilli just wounding the tweezers you're holding at the end of you're vid what are the called & how much did they cost you ? Cheers. As for you're videos I love them keep them coming yours Carm 👍🏻
Cheers! Glad you're enjoying them. :) They're Tamiya angled tweezers, I think they cost me about NZ$15.
