      I agree- Jane is very reserved and very principle. She would never throw herself at Mr Rochester, so he must lure her feelings out. Jane is very aware that Mr Rochester is above her in station and therefore she would never on her own reveal that she had feelings for him. She would think it was unseemely of her to fall in love with the master of the house.

      In the book Mr Rochester reveals that while he was recovering from his fall off the horse he covertly watched several of Adele's lessons and fell in love with Jane's patience and empathy which then grew into genuine affection for the girl herself when he realised she could match wits with him and wasn't afraid of calling him out for his behaviour. After only a few interactions he saw himself growing into a better person, a person that he imagined he would've been had he never married Bertha. Though it is hard to pinpoint the exact moment Mr Rochester fell in love with Jane, it is very clear in the book that he was already in love with her before the night of the fire.

      @@vixen2ne1Exactly. PRE-CISELY 😂 but yes that’s absolutely true, I remember before reading the book I genuinely thought that he wasn’t interested in her until after the fire and even then I thought he was serious with Blanche then again I had only watched the 2011 version. I’m happy I finally got around to reading the book because knowing how Rochester really fell in love with her makes me swoon. I think Timothy Dalton is the only actor close Toby Stephens that allows you to notice that he was well in love with her even before the fire.

    Jane is misinterpreted mostly and espessialy by this actress. Jane is not docile at all as is made clear at the beginning of the book. She is rebellious, an independent spirit, struggling to be self reliant and not to sell herself to anyone despite her poverty. But not all directors and producers would like women to be portrayed like this. Thus they have to change her character into something that better fits the male expectations towards women.

    • @barbarav4046

      I agree!!

    • @LindaMuthoni
      @LindaMuthoni 5 месяцев назад +5

      Quite the opposite, many directors try to modernise her into some kind of 21st century feminist which is not in keeping with her character and authenticity to the book. Jane Eyre is a very Christian book, I know people hate to see that but anyone with any rough knowledge of the bible cannot fail to see the numerous references made and her decisions draw from that, that aside, her character arch shifts with Miss Temple and Helen Burns, it is that vehemence she wished to subdue into an inner feminine strength of the beauty of the hidden heart, of self control, that isn't wrought up by fear etc

    • @josephanna9349
      @josephanna9349 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@LindaMuthoni to have inner feminin strength and to have self control does not mean to be docile and obedient. Not at all. Actually I don t quite understand what you intent to say with your comment. Because Charlotte Bronte uses quotes from the bible she can not be a feminist? Because she is a devote christian, of which I admit there are many proves in this book, she can not wish for equality between men and women? The bible was one of the very few books women were properly allowed to read at that time. So naturally it was also one of the few books they would quote in their own work. More so if their father was a clergyman like Charlottes and if they were educated in a very Christian school. All the Brontes had had their share of experience how women were treated by Christians at that time. Even writing books made them into compleat misfits and outcasts. What they did was considered devilish by many. So if they used quotes from the bible it was also an attempt to fit in and adjust to expectations. After all at the end Jane renounces the path of a true christian ( to go save the heathens). Instead she goes to marry her equal, to be bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. Which implies that Charlotte valued the feminist topic over the christian one.
