Please, Jack, PLEASE fix your shelves to the wall!!
I almost had a heart attack!!!
When did something happen? I didn’t notice anything lol
@heyitsdaliiii around 2:15, letter C. I gasped in fear. (I also live in an earthquake prone area, everything is nailed down)
Agreed!!
honestly, that wobble of the shelves gave me a jump scare
Ocean Vuong: ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’
Jack when he met Ocean Vuong: ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gagged’
LMAO
you should do another have i read a book from every country, because i recon you've read more since you last did one
YES!!! I keep commenting that too, hoping he will see it and promote more reading authors from various countries! It is a super fun challenge as well 🌍❤️📚
Working on it!!
@@jack_edwards YESSS
@@jack_edwards Oh my, YES!!! Can’t wait!!! I have been on a literal mission for years and have a list of books from authors from around 130 different countries! 🥺🌍📚
I was so scared when I saw the whole book shelf move
1) Consider fixing your shelves to your wall, please.
2) I have an Excel sheet with all the titles in my book collection as well as which shelf they're on. Lol. Something you may want to consider.
this library room is quite literally my comfort corner of the internet
🥰
oh, then I'll recommend "these letters end in tears" by Musih Xaviere !!😅
Thank you!
Another day of Jack playing with his little library
that ocean vuong story is gold - but im actually so jealous. your living the dream jack!!
You should try this challenge again, but do it by title of the book! Loved the video as always! Always makes my day to see an update from your channels!
It's almost like Jack is collecting Pokémons 😭
1 BOOK per COUNTRY Challenge, please ❤️🌍📚
here to confirm that you do not count the “de” & “du”, so for example, Miguel de Cervantes would go under the C of Cervantes and not the D
but what about the o'somethings and the d'somethings... i think in the library where i worked those did get sorted under o and d respectively but its been a couple of years so im not sure anymroe
Oh really, in Canada (French) we put them under D anyway
"E, oh my God MEEEE" cute XD
I was repeating "Quinn... Quinn.." at my screen and it worked amen
Thank you, you saved me
I was saying Quincy. So close.
“ E. OMG! ME “
So funny
What a fun little book challenge. For authors starting with X, try Xinran, she writes beautifully about the situation of women in China. I recommend starting with "Good Women of China".
Yes, I was thinking "Jack needs more books by Chinese authors" 😊
Thats true, chinese literature would be very enriching in this library.
As for Xinran Jay Zhao, maybe i'm mistaken but don't they use western order of Names and thus the family name would be "Zhao" 🤔
@@Ivan-ho1pd There's so much good Chinese literature out there. Maybe we should set Jack a little project to read some. Regarding names, we're thinking of different authors. Xiran Jay Zhao would absolutely be under Z, but I'm thinking of Xinran who only uses one name.
@@beththebookworm I'm sorry, i misread because it was a name I expected to read, but of course the Author of "The good woman of China" would count as x. Thanks for clarifying.
It would be awesome to see Jack read this whole World of Literature! For example four books from four periods: one of the four classics, one early modern (from the baihua movement or comparable), one of the time during or after the cultural Revolution and a contenporary book since 2000.
@@Ivan-ho1pd Ohh I like that idea. Reading across different periods would be an excellent experience and video.
“Stories of Your Life and Others” by Ted Xiang!!
It’s brilliant, get this one without a doubt! It’s also Leonie’s best book of 2023!
Thank you!
it's ted chiang so i dont think it would count
It's Ted Chiang tho, but definitely going to be a Chinese author for the X... ^^'
Surprisingly I myself am just missing I, U and X. I was convinced it would be more. That's a really interesting challenge!
As an Irish person with an O’ surname, we always come under O’ alphabetically.
the fact that i knew when he was describing the Bluets play just from the description that it was a Katie Mitchell production - her style very much involves a lot of multimedia, so her plays very often involve screens and cameras in them. she is insanely talented and clever
Me too!! I've seen 4 or 5 plays by her and I love her.
Greetings from Berlin!
Please make a video if you find a book whose author's name starts with an "X". Also have you read book titles for every letter of the alphabet?
It was heart breaking to see Jack miss his favourite authors James Baldwin and Toni Morrison for 'B' and 'M' respectively.😢
Same for sally rooney
I was convinced he'd take out a Sylvia Plath for P too
One thing about me is I am incredibly stupid
Joan Didion for D!
@@jack_edwards
wait wait are u even jack … holy shit ?!????
I just want to come here to say that this video idea is what i often do to try and fall asleep (not finding a book for every letter that I own, just one for every letter that I know)
It’s time to change the meme from “Sure, Jan.” to “Sure, Jack.”
Hey you're everywhere love it for you😂
@@Prachie10 Haha thanks
@@Prachie10 came here to say exactly that 😅
gotta get the autobiography of malcolm x
Love ur fun and amazing positive energy Jack! 😀😀
Went to a bookstore once that had LeGuin shelved under G rather than L and it still irritates me when I think about it
LOVE ! this is exactly how I would be spending time if i had this many books
I love that you've done this! ❤ when my son was a few weeks old (he's just turned 5 months) he had really bad colic during feeds so we'd stand up and walk round our living room, bouncing him gently whilst looking for book titles and authors for every letter of the alphabet on our shelves; however long it took to get his wind up 😂😂🙈🙈 thanks for another fab video!
Sure you do, jack...
Currently binge watching jack videos.
I had never heard of Christopher Isherwood, so I’m excited to check out some of his (many) books! 📚
"E...OMG ME!!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a good day when Jack posts :)
An author with a surname beginning with X is the Chinese author Can Xue - I recommend her short story collection "I Live in the Slums"
For x i can recommend some Chinese Literature: Xu Zhimo is a very good Poet of the 20th Century and in the realm of Science Fiction there is Xia Jia with her short Story "goodbye, melancholy" readable online via clarkes World magazine or in the Anthology "broken stars" edited by Ken Liu.
The Problem of course with chinese literature, is to be sure that it is a family name and not the surname starting with x. For example the most famous Chinese writer, who is said to mark the beginning of modern chinese literature, is Lu Xun. But (allthough it is a pen name) Lu would be the family name here. The same is true for Cao Xueqin, who wrote one of the 4 classics of the Chinese litterature canon.
Hope this helps and you maybe decide to check out some classics or more modern voices in chinese literature.
Norse mythology is great! My best friend introduced it to me a few months ago and it’s so good!
Jack it would be a fun idea to do the books you have reread the most times
Jack needs to move on to more Chinese fiction to find an X last name or an Xavier
You’re right!!!!
could you please do this again with title names/ books that you've rated highly? i'd love a whole rec list from you :)
I actually went through just the other day to see how many authors for each letter I had! I also have at least one for every letter but X, it's a tricky one.
I love Bridgeton book series so good 😀😀🩷🩷
what is a better way to start the day with a jack video 🥳🥳
It's so interesting, bc this is not a challenge I would ever have thought of, since I alphabetize my books. I also know off the top of my head that i don't have one for every letter, since I reshelved recently. Vs I'm not sure if I have one for every genre, for example, since that isn't how I organize
I was looking away from the screen and actually thought "come on camera, I believe in you" was the title of the book for a second xD
This video I found out really hilarious 😂
What about: do you have a book/ author for every country in the world?! 🌎❤ I have personally been on this mission for years and have 100 books from 100 different countries 📚❤️🎉 please promote reading authors from all origins, cultures, countries!!!
He promotes this all the time :) he's also done a video like that before, so it takes some time to accumulate enough new additions for a new video.
@@meikusje I know he does - I have watched ALL his videos ahah 🤭 I just think that it sounds both like fun content AND really important to actively promote reading authors from VERY various countries (what about an author from Myanmar, or one from Rwanda, or one from Iceland!)
@@MaelysChaI’ve been doing this challenge in my spare time, it’s really fun. I’ve thought about making a video about it but I am terrified of the internet
The Autobiography of Malcolm X is a very interesting book (and as a bonus, I believe that would technically fill in the X gap?)
Love your videos ♥️. Also buy a book for letter X , 😂 i’m lowkey annoyed that YOU missed one alphabet 😂🫶🏻
This is a Storygraph challenge I've been doing this year! As a mood reader, it's not been going well 😆
Video idea: Book u solely bought for the titel and what you thought of them.
Loooooove your videos ❤
I am reading Perfume right now, would love, love, love, to hear what you think of it, when you have read it!!
These Letters End In Tears by Musih Xaviere
Heaven Official’s Blessing by Mo Tong XIU
Tidesong by Wendy Xu
Omen by Lexi Xu
unrelated but i just read piranesi bc you've talked about it and i love it
Perfume is so good
E.. Omg MEEEE😃😂😂😂 Never change Jack.
i wanna do this with vinyls some day
Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu. It's a graphic novel and Xu is the illustrator but oh well. I think it counts.
When I worked in the library we filed by the final name if more than one, unless hyphenated (in which case the first of the hyphenated names) 🙂
"wait why is this one turning out to be the hardest one- UPDIKE!!!!" hahaha
Not the exact same challenge, but Literary Gladiators did a series release going through the alphabet earlier this year. :)
Wow. You haven't read Perfume yet? When I read that in my 20s I had really bad sinus problems and went around for ages trying to smell everything. People thought I was unhinged. 😂
A couple weeks ago, I started an alphabet challenge but it was by book title. I found it easier to find authors starting with x than book titles.
Well done Jack ❤😊❤
alright, I'm getting out of bed to do this with my bookshelves, be right back
Jack's relationship with Squarespace is way better than mine with believe it or not, myself..!
I haven't read anything by her yet, but I have recently heard of Can Xue, who is a Chinese author. It is an alias though but I reckon it would still work since her books are published under this name.
i am confident that i have the letter x thanks to reading donghuas
2:30 “E OH MY GOD ME” 🥹😭
i thought this was for book titles 🙃 you should do one for that too 🙈
Since X is so difficult I would have bent the rules and offered Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez. Beautiful book
3:44 spirit of nadine coyle took over
For the letter X you could read/buy the book "Olga dies dreaming" by Xóchitl González.
It doesn't really fit the criteria since it's a first name not a last name
Can you do one but of the titles
In Ireland we have a lot of names like O'Brien or O'Farrell, and generally they're listed under O!
"wait why is this one turning out to be the hardest one- UPDIKE!"
how do you even come up with these video ideas oml-
You can go really classic and read Xenophon
the potentiality that ocean vuong might know my name someday is one hell of a motivator to keep writing poetry.
I am BEGGING you to use library thing
Quote of the Day: “Thank God this is nearly over.”
Not me screaming BALDWIN at B
Have you read The Autobiography of Malcolm X? (co-authored with Alex Haley)
Malcom x?
Jacket is a hella tb
i knew the squarespace jumpscare was coming as soon as we got to the letter S 😭
The only X author I’ve read anything by is Xinran. I’ve read Sky Burial & The Good Women of China but I don’t own a copy of either, and I’m sure I’ll be missing a couple of other letters.
You have Gabrielle Zevin, surely!
me and my friend are doing a alphabetical challange but not on my book shelf. In the states, it's the last name first. I don't know if that helps?
I need you to make a video on Christopher Isherwood plsss
So I don't know if graphic novels count as books, but the only X I seem to personally have on my bookshelves is Manu Xyz, an author and illustrator (most known I think for his contributions to the collaborative series 'The other people', original French title 'Les Autres Gens')
I do have all the letters of the alphabet, including surnames, names, and book titles!! 😅
I think they should count as books!
O’farrel is O, Debovoir is D etc. I agree double barrelled names and middle names cause confusion like Caleb Azuma Nelson for example 🤷🏼♀️
I only miss 'u' in my library, i just discovered.
Parfume is one of my favorite books... it made me realize that I adore beautiful writing and YOU haven't read it ????
Time to wake up and jump on our phone!
yes Jack (I’ve only read the title of the video)
I put my home library's author list in a spreadsheet and sorted them that way. Let something else make this decision.
author rec for X : Bai Xianyong
Interested, I'm only missing Q and U
