Ngl the stock sound reminds me of the Uni days when you'd hear peoples nails hitting the super thin Macbook keyboard. Using the case/cover was super smart. Wouldn't be surprised if Asus does something similar for a future iteration.
This video kinda makes me want to mod up some of my current and future boards again! I've missed these kinds of modding videos, always really creative ways and ideas to enhance a lackluster board
I have the keyboard and have zero issues with it. Best keyboard I've bought, I love the low profile feel to it. The original keyboard sound's before modding sounded better to me the modded one sounded thocky.
Dang Scott! This is why you are my favorite, the ingenuity and the humor together are always phenomenal! The mods are truly awesome! I hope all is going well in Korea.
Before I really got into custom keebs, I used the original Falcion 65% because it was one of the only options that offered tri-mode connectivity at the time and I really enjoyed it. This review is kinda making me miss it a little bit, and I do have to say I really am tempted by the low profile. The included travel cover and small profile in general made that original 65%er great for lan parties, and I can see this being an even better option. Still, it's rather expendy, so I might wait for a sale but even as someone with too many keyboards already, I might have to pick this up.
So glad you made this video. Personally I like how quiet it is otb. I really hope someone makes custom keycaps at some point really. I was just looking for a great laptop like mechanical keyboard. I always typed best on a laptop anyways.
love this video Scott, feels like a classic Keybored style modding that we all love! I’d also contend that with the proliferance of force break mods built into boards nowadays, somebody owes you something! Thanks for making this hobby better for everyone with your creativity and ingenuity!
I bought the original ROG Falchion for $150. It was a cool keyboard (albeit flawed), but I certainly paid the early adopter fee on that one. It really was a $100 keyboard at most. I suspect this is the case with the RX Low Profile as well especially since ASUS is using proprietary switches as opposed to the Cherry MX of the original Falchion. I can't see that the keyboard is really worth $170 when there are way better options at that price point and that's also taking into consideration all of the built in features. If this keyboard was selling for $120 I would highly consider a purchase because there were a few things that I really enjoyed about the original Falchion and this seems to improve on all of the faults of the original. Either way, your modding is pretty genius and getting that kind of sound out of a low-profile keyboard was really impressive. Thanks for the video!
I've always been curious about Asus' proprietary switches. Do they feel like a typical scissor? How do they compare to Kailh's X scissors or Cherry's MX ULP switches? Since unlike most scissors these actually have a stem-like block, how much wobble do they have, or do they succumb to the typical wobble scissor caps have? I wish Asus would sell there switches, just so that people could try them outside of buying an Asus board, and that maybe a keycap ecosystem could be built around bare switches given the boards using these switches are fairly low yield in comparison to anything using MX or chocs; it's a mix of an issue of nobody in the wider market having these switches and everyone in the specific market being the type to not swap their keycaps out.
I think this keyboards main problem are its switches. A gaming keyboard should have the analogue/ hall-effect switches popularized by wooting. A real innovation would have been a low profile version of that switch.
Hi Scott, I liked this vid because it's great to see someone experimenting with the RX - thanks. It sounded great modded! I like it's quietness as it is personally, but I'd quite like to try changing the feel. I'd be really grateful if you know a place I could get those gaskets without having to take them out of a keeb? Alternatively, maybe you could suggest something else that would have a similar effect?
maybe I missed it, but given the keycaps are the only ones that will ever live in this keyboard, why didn't you mention what material they're made from? i.e. are they going to get shiny
me too but I havent been able to found one on my local amazon or in aliexpress, ill check in some crafs store near my university but I doubt they'll have it
I can't understand why in 2024 the expensive keyboards still don't offer standard the option of a 4-split spacebar that the user could switch for the single standard spacebar. For people who prefer to use their strong thumbs instead their weaker pinkies for Enter, Shift and Backspace, beside Space.
Hey Scott, A little background I'm the punch every key (I only go for above 70g actuation force) kind of guy, the more the keyboard punches back (hence my preferred boards are top/plate mounted with metal plates), the better. As for weariness... oddly enough the softer the tactily the more strained my hands are. Got any mods that could stiffen gasket only boards?
i'm all bout that KLACK.... if i don't klack it's wack man, it looks amazing with the top cover under the case. if it wasn't for the space between the top and the proper case, it would look as tho it was made that way
ROG Falchion RX Low Profile. Any plans to release 96% version of this keyboard ? i know that this keyboard is created for People who only game but Asus dont forget People who Game, work on the same keyboard and love low profile keyboards like me :-)
Agree that the stock sound isn't good, but opening it up like you did just makes it sound too much like many of the ultra-cheap mechanical keyboards out there right now - an empty plastic box. Not too far off from a lightly "modded" RK or something...imho
wait shouldn't a "gaming " keeb have much higher polling rate like 2000hz ? ik the difference isn't huge just like in mouses but that hasn't stopped mouse manufacturers from implenting 2k to 8k hz mouses
I love how quiet the stock one was.
I love this keyboard at stock.
I've been enjoying it for 4 weeks now 👌
azot vs this is
7:50 I see Keybored is also a man of culture.

Been a long time since weve seen this scott. You produce great vids but this is simply greater imho
More power!

Personal preference here.
It sounds to me like I'd like the default sound.
However the pouncy mod could probable be nice.
ngl that spacebar was actually better before the PET mod
same the modded version sounds bit " rattly" to me , i would just add some space bar foam , do the case mod and call it a day
Honestly man you are the BEST keyboard youtuber around
So glad you made this video. Personally I like how quiet it is otb. I really hope someone makes custom keycaps at some point really. I was just looking for a great laptop like mechanical keyboard. I always typed best on a laptop anyways.
i prefer the stock one

Awesome smart keyboard cover mod!!
Been missing these modding videos.
The sound test got me excited but my jaw dropped when I saw the price....
I guess I should expect that considering the corsair & razer low profiles
Amazing modding skills!!!

I just bought this keyboard and I already love it. Can I conect another mouse from a different brand to the same receiver?
I think this keyboards main problem are its switches. A gaming keyboard should have the analogue/ hall-effect switches popularized by wooting. A real innovation would have been a low profile version of that switch.
I think this kindof innovation would make some good money
Already exists! Check out the Zenaim keyboard. Problem is it's only sold in Japan
Those switches arent necessary with lp boards because of its already low travel distance
The travel distance of the switch is already very low so i don't see a point in doing that.
The benefits of a hall effect switch would also exist with less travel

Great video, so where did you put PET? Did you just put it where their original foam/rubber was?
I'm wondering this as well. It looks like he taped it to the PCB? I'm not sure tbh, but @keybored, could you elaborate on this please?
been looking for a PET sheet to buy, excellent!
me too but I havent been able to found one on my local amazon or in aliexpress, ill check in some crafs store near my university but I doubt they'll have it
where can I buy those gaskets?

Got any mods that could stiffen gasket only boards?
That top bezel should’ve been a touchbar
Can you try modding nuphy air60 v2? Its beautiful but the sound is awful
Modding videooooooo.... yeaaaaaaaa!!!!
i'm all bout that KLACK.... if i don't klack it's wack
man, it looks amazing with the top cover under the case. if it wasn't for the space between the top and the proper case, it would look as tho it was made that way
Beautiful job... but can U make it silent and in black ?
Is asus rog azoth better or this one?

Would love a comparison with Monokei Systems
i feel welcomed
Welcome!

I really want this keeb but I need it in black!!!
What is u fav lineær switches?
2:38 Reason why you should dive into keyboard to be an audio engineer easily 😂😂

What is the battery capacity?
440 hours
Lofree flow is still the way
ASUS owes me money because of all the ASUS gear I’ve bought over the years and encouraged others to buy.
You know, if you send it my way, I can promise to test the battery life for you :)
Can you turn the capslock key to fn key?

Too bad the cringey "republic of gamers" branding is huge and at the forefront cause this could have been a nice option for portability.
The mod honestly sounds worse to me :( sorry!
(I guess it's just a preference thing at this point, which is a good thing)
0:06 That sounds worse! Either that or your mic is different! Optical switches often feel terrible.
i think i like it before
it's louder and more obnoxious hollow sounding.. i also don't get how this is in any way relevant... i'd get a thock keyboard instead
So you basically did nothing substantial.
so...
Yes
Seems worse than a nuphy
