      1) tranist over a carpeted area to mop 2 diffrent rooms seperated by a carpeted room(without dragging the dirty mopheads on the carpet as it goes back to the base), & also be able to switch from mopping hard floors to vacuming carpeted floors without someone manually removing the mops.

    A note about the Roomba's cloud requirement: it only supports local control from one source at a time, so either the iRobot app or Home Assistant, but not both at the same time. If you add the Roomba to Home Assistant, the iRobot app will fall back to cloud control, which won't work if you block it. So if you want fully local control, you'll need to pick either the iRobot app or Home Assistant, and if you're OK with the cloud being involved, you can get both.

I have mainly hardwood floors and was about to go purchase the ecovacs when i saw your recommendation... but then when I saw that almost all of that functionality goes away when it is blocked from the internet, that becomes a huge NOPE for me. Manufacturers need to know that cloud connection should be an option for people who don't have the technical skill to use local control, but there should always be an option for local control of a device you own. Thanks again for such a thorough review and helping to educate consumers and pressure manufacturers!!!!

    Thank you SO much for considering privacy along with the other review items. You appear to be one of the only reviewers who even cares that so many companies, including ones in China, are running cameras and microphones in our homes and sending unknowable data to cloud services. I'm with you on this one; these devices need to be self-contained or at least offer some testable description of how they use cloud services and how they manage data. To be legally accountable, the company will probably have to be incorporated in your home country as well.
    As for me, I'll mop my own floors. It might even be less hassle than these complex robotic mops.

    Bought the Ecovacs X1 Omni 3 months ago and ended up returning it today for the iRobot J7+.
    The problem over time with the auto empty dock/waste water, etc. meant the dust bin on the robot itself would keep a bunch of wet, damp waste product and it is just begging for mold/insects to start breeding. Technically I could avoid this by cleaning/washing it out after every mop/clean, but that really defeats the purpose of all this automatation, especially given how expensive it is.

    i bought the s7 maxv ultra as soon as it launched. honestly i love it, but the battery drains quite quickly (as expected tho. i have it mop + vacuum first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and vacuum twice throughout the day). as a girl with long hair and a longhaired cat, i regularly have to clean it out and untangle our hair from the components lol. it's great as someone with a pet (picks up the litter that gets tracked everywhere constantly) and who often has guests over. it's so nice to not have to sweep constantly anymore lol, makes my cleaning routine much more manageable

    Great review! You missed a key privacy difference between the MaxV Ultra and the X1 Omni. The Omni docks with it’s camera facing out (viewing your home). The MaxV Ultra docks with the camera facing the dock once it’s done cleaning the mop so that even if the camera were somehow remotely accessed it does not see anything unless the vacuum is deployed.

My older ECOVAC T8 gets stuck, so looking for a new solution. I opted for the newly released J7 plus with the mop that auto rotates to the top of the vac when not in use. We will see how that does…

      @@TheHookUp I have been playing with the new J7+ Combo robot and I wanted to pass along some observations of both lidar robots (ECOVAC T8) and the newer roomba J7+ Combo, I prefer the newer roomba overall. Lidar robots are more precise and have more efficient cleaning routes, but that's also the down fall of the ECOVACs lidar robots. Example, I do a 4 hour mapping run with my T8 robot, setup your rooms, schedules, etc... everything works great until you place a large amazon box on the floor in the same room as the robot dock, it thinks it is in a strange environment/can't locate itself and starts a new map. This is a BIG downfall of ECOVACs, it makes them almost unusable, and that's why most users complain about maps being blown away with ECOVACs. Roomba mapping system doesn't care about boxes, pet beds, etc and not seem like it will delete your map like my T8 did. It also like seems like the brush on the roomba doesn't get clogged up with hair like the T8 does. I work in commercial automation and love stuff like this (as you do) and wanted to pass this along as your reviews go deeper than most on youtube.

    Subbed because you looked into the privacy issues. From what I understand they both have a ground-level LIDAR as well like the Ozmo T8 and N8 Pro have. Perhaps if one were to disable the camera and mic but not the laser they would work well enough?

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the the S7 MaxV and X1 OMNI are both combination VSLAM and LIDAR robots. The T8 and N8 pro have true detect (the front facing lasers) which I've found to be almost as effective as VSLAM for object avoidance with the added benefit of increased privacy.

    Thanks. This is one of the better reviews I've seen of these 3 - especially the mopping tests, though more realistic stain cleaning would have been nice. Having been a user of Roomba i7 + Bravajet M6, I agree that the iRobot's mapping functionality is not at all good when compared to Roborock's Lidar (I also have a Roborock S4). My Bravajet has horrible navigation and can't even find its way into some rooms. The Roomba battery life is inferior to the Roborock S4's and it (the Roomba) is very noisy. No more iRobot products for me. But the decision between Deebot and Roborock is a tough call.

      @@MrBlueCreeper Not sure about that. IMO the X1 Omni is superior in many ways to the S7 MaxV. For one, rotating pads are superior to the vibrating pad on the S7

    • @MrBlueCreeper
      @MrBlueCreeper 2 года назад +3

      @@elleryfg7853 however some report that the mopping system doesn’t work. Vacuum Wars usually loves Ecovacs products but he isn’t a big fan of the X1 because of the bad mopping system. Also the obstacle avoidance on the ROBOROCK is better. Ecovacs claims that it can see objects that are 2 inches in height (Amazon listing for the X1). ROBOROCK claims that it can see object that are 1.1 inches in height (Roborock’s official site). Next, people report that the X1 can’t climb on its own dock. The s7 MAXV has no issue. Finally, the app is buggy and unreliable on the x1. The ROBOROCK app never glitches. It’s up to you. You could take a chance on the X1 if you want, but I’ll probably go with the s7 MAXV.

    • @elleryfg7853
      @elleryfg7853 2 года назад +2

      @@MrBlueCreeper I already did take a chance on the X1 Omni. All those issues you mention are probably user error and also fixable through updates in the case of software or firmware. As you could see on this video the mopping capabilities of the X1 are superior to the S7 MaxV. And it makes sense rotating pads will always make a better job cleaning than just a vibrating pad. As for navigation, obstacle detection and app. All that is software and firmware. As you could see on this video too, the X1 performed with no issues at all. The only advantage of the S7 MaxV is the ability of raising the pad but that is not a big one since it won't avoid the carpet 100% and you are almost always going to get it wet or dirty if the pad has jelly on it like in the test. I would be glad to give you some feedback on the X1 Omni once I test it. In my case it has a pretty simple job since I don't have carpet but part of the house has a type of tile that's not smooth so I'll be looking forward to seeing how it performs there.

    Can you make a video about two-way-talk in Blue Iris? I'd like to set up something like a Ring doorbell with two way audio but I don't want it to be cloudless so Ring is obviously not an option. I'm thinking a solution like this might work: Home assistant + Blue Iris + a security camera with RTSP and 2 way audio + a smart doorbell with MQTT. So when the doorbell is pressed, you get a push notification on your phone, then you can open up a Blue Iris web interface and use the two way audio feature to speak with the intruder/visitor and hear what they have to say. Please make a video about that? Pretty please? With sugar and satoshis ontop?

    It's neat but I kind of wondering why they don't offer a flat version of the dock which fits under the kitchen cabinet (after removing a section of the socket).
    This way it could be connected to fresh and waste water and not use tanks. The vacuum tank could be cleaned with flushing it out as well :)
    A simple door mechanism where you can connect the removed kitchen socket board would hide it completely - which would be so much more comfortable than having it sit there in a room all the time

    Just moved into a new home. Main floor is all hardwood. Upstairs has new carpet, medium to high pile. We do not have any pets. Multi floor support not required, keeping the main floor swept and dusted is the main goal. We can handle vacuuming the carpet the old fashion way. I definitely require integration into home assistant. Privacy is a bit of a concern so local control is preferred but not required. What would be your top suggestions for an inexpensive option (sub $600) and an expensive option ($600+).
    Also have you tried out the eufy robovac x8 hybrid?

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 года назад

      I haven't tried the X8, they keep offering to send me one, but I can't imagine being able to give a good review for a $500 vacuum without an auto empty base.
      My recommendation for a $600+ option based on your needs would be a Roborock S7+ ($949): amzn.to/3lunCgz
      and sub $600 would be a Dreame Z10 ($479): amzn.to/3PC4ZFh though the home assistant integration for it still isn't working 100%.
