- Join me today as I show you my long-rumored sealed set collection. I have acquired these Lego sets over the years and eventually decided that I enjoyed keeping them new in box instead of building them to be covered in dust or break...

I would keep them, but i am too excited when I get one
I don't keep sets sealed, nor do I keep boxes. To me Lego is to play with and enjoy hands on. I would feel like I wasted money, especially if I bought retired sets at high prices, for the sets to just sit in their boxes. That is what makes the community fun though, everyone can enjoy it their own way.
These are sets I co-own and I also live in this house, but I even learned something in this video

Lol, our kids need to learn to work for things, not just expect them! Let them play with the open bricks and earn their own sealed sets if they want.

Sealed sets are honestly so fun. Recreating the store shelves we wish we had access to as kids in our homes...

As a LONG time action figure collector, I get it. I want mint boxes, even if I plan to build a set. Mainly, much like it sounds like you've done, you get a set with every intention of building, it gets backlogged, time FLIES by, and suddenly that set has become rare and expensive! Done it with many figures. I'm not a boxed collector, yet, I have an impressive boxed collection. Like you said, do what makes you happy! Life is short, so enjoy it!
Wow that's a GREAT sealed collection! That Hobbit set looks amazing. For me I love to keep battle packs sealed.
Thanks! I wish I did that! I have every clone trooper battle pack since 2007 but I wish the young Ross would have kept a sealed copy just for adult Ross to flex

i like my little collection. i saw someone saying that a sealed darth revan was worth a bit, and after a week i found it. it is perfect. i also got some extra creator expert cars, like the F40
I had two DS2 sets. I sold one and keeping the other one sealed. I bought the pieces for the build along with securing plenty of the 40th Anniversary bricks to make a few of them. That's an option for you, if you don't want to open the sealed copy. The cheapest Bricklink price is $42 + tax/shipping. My cost was only half that, although typically piecing it together will run about that current market price, if not more, if you do want the complete set with the 40th brick. Bricklinking the pieces come out right now about $40 excluding tax/shipping.

I'm a buy-and-build collector. But the backlog has a number of "should-I-even-open-these?" sets: The Old Fishing Store, The Simpsons House, The Stranger Things set, Ninjago City, the Dr Who Ideas set, etc.

It's amazing that you're collecting all different themes. I started collecting Lego Star Wars about 10 years after it launched, around 2009. It began with the minifigs but then i fell in love with building the sets. Interestingly I moved when the pandemic started and when a lot of people were getting back into lego I was staying with friends and had my collection in storage. I ended up buying a house in late 2020, and after unpacking my lego collection it took up the majority of the finished basement. I continued to collect all of the Star Wars sets, and already had quite a few that were sealed. I'd say about 40 percent of my collection is sealed now. I know a lot of people resent investing in lego, but personally i find it as enjoyable as collecting. over the last 4-5 years I've started investing more, buying multiple of the same sets. Out of my entire collection / investments, by far my favourite is the sealed 10123 cloud city set, i paid 1100$ Canadian around 2010, and I've never been able to bring myself to open it. Unfortunately the reality being that lego is so expensive now though has forced me to invest more in order to afford to collect.i honestly regret opening any of the sets i purchased on the secondary market. I do want to continue to collect as well as invest, but in terms of building and displaying the collection, space is always my biggest concern. Even the sealed sets take up a lot of room. Just rewatched the 1st Hobbit movie last night and forgot how good it was. Seeing all those Hobbit sets is pretty cool. I was into Lego in the 90's and got back into it in 2021 so I missed 25 years of lego.
I got my hands on the Omnic Titan but I made the same mistake as Just2Good and I used the thumb tabs to open the box 😂

I have some that I have not opened in my collection. Sometimes for space reasons, other times for investing reasons. I would love to get my hands on a Krennec's shuttle myself and I am not sure I would open it either. Maybe one day I can find one that is not overly expensive. Nice collection.
This has made me more open to buying used sets since I can't bring myself to open retired sets anymore..
I bought the Upside Down intending the keep it sealed but the box arrived with a huge gash in it so I ended up building it. It's a great build and looks awesome on display!

I like collecting Lego to build and also I love my sealed set collection.But lately I have great joy with my 3 year old Grandson asking me and watching me build Lego sets. He has his own Duplo sets to play with. But he has mastered the lego technic control sets to drive.
I my self am a sealed set collector. I particularly like really great box art :)

I think lego is meant to build / play with or display . As for investment purposes , it can take years to double your money , people are a pain to deal with

00:32 I know how you feel about old collector sets. I got the UCS ‘89 batmobile on sale right before it retired for only £160. It went into my backlog of “plan to builds” and has been there ever since because, well the price has gone up so much I’m scared to open it! 😮

What does it say about your lego addiction when you've got unopened boxes around. There's a certain grade on a scale somewhere that you qualify for. Anyway, in my pile, i have star wars ucs and mos eisley, sequel sets i got because they had not appreciated, and friends. My partner is worse though, she just buys them for some collecting itch without any plans on opening them. See rivendell that's only gotten to bag one, a few creator expert sets, and her half of the dominion wave. Anyway, im into dinosaurs atm. First time i've actually loved the moulded ones. Fun.!!

UCS Slave1 is like my dream Star Wars set. I would love to get a sealed copy and crack it open. Then build it up, and pray the brown pieces don’t snap…
I do not buy many sets at all so I always build them when I do. Also you should do a video or see if you can make the christmas fighter from parts/bricklink/bricks and minifigs. Would be cool to see the process

Krennic's Shuttle I actually do think is worth building as it displays very well. The box itself just isn't impressive nor driving nostalgia for me like the others do. I mostly enjoy having a sealed collection knowing the display I can make in the future, share it with family later on, or just for the cool box art. Sealed Scooby Doo and Monster Fighters are probably my favorites I have.
Yea of all these sealed sets, this is the one I would open first. We also have a sealed mystery machine!

I discovered my passion for Legos along with my kids , I was skeptical at first because the sets are expencive for a toy but there isnohing like Christams time and watching my children rejoyce every time they get new Legos and the hours of play they get with it.
I did help them build some of the bigger sets (like barracuda bay) but never actually bought anything directly for myself.
My husband on the other hand grew up with Lego Castle/Pirates/cowboys and all the classics 80/90 s sets.
The only Lego I ever had as a kid were 2 bionicle sets and some loose pieces ahah
I can't keep sets sealed. I'm never going to sell anything so might as well have the fun of building it. I don't even keep the boxes anymore.
I have build lego for over 28 years new and i only have one lego set seal and i have one lego set that nobody have but only me it is a big big penthouse build 😊

I have this problem too, lol. Slowly (very slowly, lol) I’m buying used copies of my sealed sets to build & display since I can’t bring myself to crack them open. LEGO makes it really hard when they keep releasing awesome stuff like the Venator & Batcave though! Lol

I like building and rebuilding with alternate builds. I don't like the taking apart and resorting aspect, but, I am sure it is good for me in some aspect of my life (endurance for doing annoying tasks? That's a skill, right? )
