Great playing! I preferred the Martin for strumming and the Cebu and G45 for fingerstyle. Nice comparison as I’m currently in the market for a ~$1000ish acoustic.
Great demo! Here's my thoughts and rankings! For strumming: #1 (Best): Martin D-10E, the sound was full and robust and is ideal for rhythm guitar via chords. #2: Taylor 110E, the tone was a bit more jangly than the Martin but still full sounding and well suited to chords. #3: Gibson G-45, the tone was jangly and the notes were very separate, which would be ideal for fingerstyle, makes it ill suited to chord strumming. #4: Cebu (Worst), the tone suffered from the same jangly nature as the Gibson, but was also harsh and bright, bordering on tinny. For fingerstyle: #1 (Best): Cebu, despite performing the worst when strummed, it EXCELLED when it was fingerpicked, with its notes ringing the clearest, loudest and nicest. #2: Gibson G-45, as I figured it would, the articulate sound and string separation helped this one really do well here, while not as nice as the Cebu, it still performed quite well here. #3: Taylor 110E, the Taylor didn't sound bad here by any means, it just didn't stack up against the others above it, it was loud enough at least, but the notes felt too jumbled together to rank higher. #4: Martin D-10E, the Martin did the worst here by quite a huge margin, all the elements that made it an ideal strummer also makes it very poor for fingerpicking. Not enough volume, the notes are too dark and it sounded a tad rigid to my ear.
You could not. have picked a better first song to compare them. Thank you.
