    Left dealer after first service a quart low. Thanks for dip stick. Information center said it was full. Castrol is the recommended oil however Amsoil has a better oil for this diesel car.

    Thanks for the video. I like to pull the old filter first, then the drain plug. Makes the oil drain more completely. I have the exact same vehicle, 2012 E70 35D same color.

      Hello T B. Yes you are right. It is a better way to fully drain the oil. I usually do that, and combine taking off the filler cap too. Thanks for your support.

    I always use full synthetic 0w-30 diesel oil with 10000km intervals mostly Castrol and no problems. Main reason being I have no access to BMW oil. Currently 240,000 with no oil loss and runs very quite. Should I be concerned? Has anyone used non genuine BMW oil and had issues due to oil?

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  Год назад

      Hello M A, Castrol and other brands are extremely great products. If your car has 240K miles, using other brands of oil, I would not be concerned a bit. Thanks for your comment, and if you want to help, please subscribe if you have not already.

    You mentioned the original BMW oil, but the oil that you have listed is Castrol. Is there are not a difference in those two oils

      @thanasisdiydad9200  4 месяца назад

      Hi, That's a great question.
      When you copy the part number in the BMW parts site, the description is Castrol oil, but has BMW branding on the bottle. Logically they source oil from Castrol for Diesel engines.

    Use the oem bmw oil or use amsoil, I’ve been using amsoil on all my cars since 98’ and it’s some good stuff.

    Do you change the oil every two years?

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  4 года назад +1

      Hello, I don't change my oil every two years strictly. I use OEM BMW oil so I can rely on the on board system to tell me when the oil change is do. It really depends on the miles driven, because that is a factor also. Thanks for watching and please SUB if you haven't.

    Can the car be raised only from the front?

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  3 года назад

      Hello, and thanks for watching. Generally it's better to keep the car level while doing an oil change, but if you must raise the front to do it, I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world. Try to do it level in my opinion. Please take the time to Subscribe if you have not already, and thanks for your support.

    is it normal for a diesel engine to have smoke when u open the oil cover?

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  3 года назад

      Juan I'm not sure how much smoke is coming out, but I assume that the engine is hot and has been running for some time, then a bit of smoke, like when your boiling water and you take the cap of the pot and evaporated water releases and stops after a few seconds is normal. Anything more than that maybe you need to take a look at it with a mechanic. My opinion, if the cap is ON and you have the right amount of oil in your engine and you don't see smoke from any other part of it, you will be fine.I hope this helps, and once again thanks for watching and thanks for supporting this channel.

    did you start the engine after the 6 Liter?, this way you move the oil inside the engine, after you let it seat for 10 minutes and check the deep stick again to refill.

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  4 года назад

      I did start the engine at the 6 liter mark, but there was minimal difference even till today, the level is near top line. Thanks for watching.

    Disagree buying dealer BMW oil is NOT well worth the money. You can get the same oil with the same specs (BMW LL04) with the Pennzoil Plat Euro L. I'ts practically the same oil as well, BMW uses Shell.

    • @thanasisdiydad9200
      @thanasisdiydad9200  4 года назад +1

      Hello Midnight Narwhal. You may be right, I didn't do extensive research on the matter, I would have taken my car to the dealer anyway if I hadn't done the work, so I kind of wanted to use what the dealer uses. All my oil changes have been done with this same oil from BMW, and the engine runs pretty well and smooth. Now if I had a performance car, maybe I would consider a better oil to use. Thanks for the conversation though, It's nice to hear from my subscribers and their insight. Please SUB if you haven't, and thanks again for your support.

      After reading stories about clogged dpf, egr cooler, and carbon deposit on the intake manifold, i only use BMW LL04 oil. I am not playing around and risking thousands in repairs to save $10 on the engine oil, successfully for 5.5?yrs of ownership. This is one area where not appropriate to save money. These cars are overly sensitive to maintenance and the oil you use.

      @@k-man-dude Great POV. The extra 20-30 bucks will in fact go a long way on most vehicles, and can save a LOT of money long term. Thanks for commenting and your support.
