Reminder: SlimeVR autobone dance only has to happen once, not every play session. Because haritorax doesn't do the dance, they don't have accurate body proportion detection.
sorry, it’s meant to be an overview of IMU tracking as a whole and a reply to the general statement of “SlimeVR Sucks”, since I hear many throw around the blanket statement of IMUs being bad with no real thought, and it’s made to cover my experience with IMU tracking and how it’s not as bad as its made out to be, although I hope you still enjoyed the video!
@@seenovrThen why not put something like "IMU tracking sucks" instead? I know that SlimeVR is generally used as the example by most people parroting this but it does end up making the title a bit misleading when you don't really talk about SlimeVR specifically.
Agreed. I was like. Where are the comparisons to slime VR. Why is he talking about this brand I haven't heard of? I was confused. From skimming the video it seems like he's talking bad on slimevr and raving about how haritora x is better.
@@via_koleI actually honestly love personally, my only issue with talking about them too much was trying to get a slimevr made unit and not a community made one, which generally takes way too long. I’ve tried on slimevr and I like it, I just didn’t have enough time with it to dive into it as deep as I could with a HaritoraX, which I’ve been able to try out for extended periods
@@awesome_by_default would have done this, the only issue with doing that is that every time I told someone what the video title would be, they’d have no clue what an IMU even is, so finding this video would be even harder, as much as I wish I could keep a slimevr unit to talk about more I didn’t feel I had enough time with it to draw too many conclusions on slimevr itself except say it wasn’t as bad as I hear people say it is at all.
The HaritoraX wireless are almost the same form factor as Slime VR and they will be adding a camera to the kit to help with drift. They showed that off at CES 2023.
Any clue what IMU chip they are using, i cant find any documentation. I know the stock slimes use BMI160's, but alot homebuilds are going BNO085's if you can find them that is. As for "sensor fusion" (trying to correct for drift with cameras) no clue how well that will actually work out, people have attempted it before without major success .
@@nikushim6665 Stock slimes actually use BNO085 (which are pretty high grade) BMI160s are considered outdated hardware and people use BMI270s for somewhat better results There are other options as well but it is assumed that the haritora wireless uses a higher grade IMU (BNOs or better) ALSO people are doing "Slimetora" nowadays which is using their haritora wireless trackers with the slimevr software and it apparently works great
I agree with most of your comments! I have the newer version of Haritora X (Wireless) with the elbow extension, and the main difference with your device I will say is comfort... the straps/devices are so small and easy to get on, that I often forget I have them. That said... tracking results over VRChat are noticeable better with the SlimeVR trackers. There's already people working on running Haritora as SlimeVR Trackers using a bridge and the Slime Software, so crossing my fingers for that to work properly so I can have the best of both worlds haha
I feel like people throw shade at the HaritoraX trackers more than they should. I put my 1.1b's through hell almost everyday doing stunts and they work great for the price and availability. Im glad this video did them some justice, great video.
Yoy maybe the upstarting vr RUclipsr, but you just saved me hundreds of dollars when I've searched hundreds of videos, which was just basic stock VRCHAT videos with fbt and no actual explanation of what is it like. Thank you.
Enjoy em! I personally loved using slimes whenever I had a few minutes with them. Way better than the HaritoraX 1.1 in terms of latency, as they are WiFi based.
decent video but title was misleading regardless of intention, i waited for 8 minutes for you to take out the slimeVR and compare them to the haritoras. it never happened.
So not to confuse people the ones through slimevr discord market place are not the official units you can only get the official ones through crowd supply. The open-source diy ones may use cheaper and inferior imu
Still waiting on my parts to build my own set of Slimes. It was a logical step forward to upgrade my VR setup and my computer repair setup. At the moment I'm going to be using Aliexpress cases, but a 3D printer sounds enticing to scratch the itch to tinker and repair!
As you said, it's good for specific users! I don't have base stations, I have a router dedicated to my headset -so, no latency- and the way my ceiling is just wouldn't allow a good placement for base stations. In the end it's the best solution to me. I also have a stable magnetic environment which, based on users' experiences, significantly reduce drift and, in extreme cases (playing outside), negate it entirely. I'll try playing in my garden once I get my Slimes, that's also a benefit of being completely wireless and independent of base stations!
If your like DIY, just build Slime VR you can get away with 5 slime and 3 extension if you have quest 3 with arm tracking. Even managed 4 if you don't dance or need hip movement.
Great video! i also think that it might be better if you built your own slimes right? cus from what i heard the waiting time is crazy and its completely open source so might as well do it myself
I still think there is an extremely low cost solution to tracking out there and once someone discovers it it will render all of these things so obsolete it won't even be funny. I've always thought it to be overcomplicated, like you have to have infrared, dozens of bluetooth dongles, all manner of signals flying around possibly even disagreeing with one another, boxes shooting lasers everywhere, cmon there's gotta be an easier solution
There is. It's called video to mocap. A single camera (webcam, smartphone) is enough to track the body with AI, but it requires more computing power. Kinect tried it and some people used it in VRChat, but it was much lower quality. It's still not as reliable and accurate as trackers, but in a few years it will be the standard. A big company need to pump recourses into it. meta could do it years ago but they weren't interested.
@@kazioo2 apriltags is actually a step up from my personal experience but is heavily held back by the shitty software, i had to fork apriltags to fix the issues i had with it but it has so much potential...

Honestly, Slime VR did take a bit to set up initially. It took maybe a couple hours doing the body proportion dance a few times more than I needed to, and finally get it all working. Now, all I need to do is wear the straps, which only takes me an extra 2 minutes to put on, and do a full reset, and I'm good to go. Not to mention that the battery in the Slimes last practically forever. I could sleep with these on, and they'll still have 80% of battery left when I wake up, though my Quest 2 would definitely be dead.
Do you have the official slimevr trackers or community ones? I’d love to know the battery capacity on the ones you have because that sounds amazing. I’ve seen a few ones community made that have 25 hours worth of life in them per charge!
The reason why I'm looking into imus is because slimes are insanely cheap for fbt and I don't care about setup time I got my quest on Christmas opened it at 6am and started playing like at like 10am setup isn't the problem for me
It is hard to find videos on the HaritoraX that are in english so this was awesome. The fact I needed to click show advance options for the blutooth kind of took me back a bit as I was just assuming it was not connecting. So that some good info to have. Could you make a video on how to pair the HaritoraX to your Quest? I already have it connected to my PC but I wonder if connecting it to my head set would give me batter tracking or not. Any ways thanks for the epic vid
Personally I wouldn't recommend anyone get the shiftall trackers they drift really quick for me and their software is a pain (Granted you can use SlimeVR software with it and I didn't try that as at the time it wasn't supported)
It means time. VR Sounds like a good entry level. Full body tracking method if you never tried it before So maybe you could consider getting something more expensive in the future. If you have never tried it before, like me. Now I mean what does it start at? Something like 160 bucks or something along the lines of that. That's a pretty good deal for what you're getting. And also considering the fact that it's open source that opens a whole new world of possibilities. But yeah I can't imagine how it could suck.
Correction? Yes, it might have a lot of latency but a lot of that is actually based on your Wi-fi how good it is. But considering the price of it, it might be a good option for some. And not for others like yourself.

Before meta makes yet another halfassed headset. Which tracking solution would be the best for a standalone headset like the quest 3? (PC VR is not VR its more like AR) from what I've heard from Sonys mocopi trackers from a video I watched they seem like the best option ive ever seen, but as I already know it's too good to be true just from knowing how businesses run plus how I spent 600 dollars on a pair of Sony headphones and they didn't show their usual quality control I have my doubts.
Reminder: SlimeVR autobone dance only has to happen once, not every play session. Because haritorax doesn't do the dance, they don't have accurate body proportion detection.
