Interesting product, so awesome they went that extra mile and socketed the plugs. I'm interested in the Pollux for sure; as much as everyone else seems to deny the numpad, I use it way too often. :D
I'm editing the Pollux video right now. It should be up later on today/tonight. 👍 I definitely agree about the numpad. I've been getting a lot of use out of it in Blender.
Would it be this one or the Pollux that's only slightly larger and has a number pad? I have a review of that one coming out tomorrow if you want to compare them.
That's up to you on whether you'd want wireless or the extra keys. Also, if you go with the K530 make sure you get the recently released pro version since that's the one with socket hot-swap instead of the original sleeves. Redragon should have that as the one listed as the K530, but some sellers might have the old version in stock.
Hello Cly, I was wondering if you could do a review on redragon's k599 deimos because it's just like the castor but you get ten times the value for just an extra 6 dollars in Amazon. You get more keys, bluetooth, it has the same switches, and the reviews look good, it seems suspicious cause why would anyone buy the castor when this is available. Pls do a review or give me advice on the differences between these two keyboard.
I have a review of the K599 in the works at the moment, and I can tell you at least one reason to choose the Castor over the Deimos. That's the hot swap. The Castor uses 5-pin compatible universal sockets for its switches, while the Deimos uses sleeves that are only really compatible with Outemu switches and others made using that design. 5-pin sockets aren't usually seen in this price range, hence the small difference in the price of the two boards despite the Castor's lack of wireless. That said, the K599 has actually been my daily driver since I got it. I prefer the layout that uses full sized keys (very uncommon in 65% keyboards) and the wireless is useful. It isn't Bluetooth though, just 2.4ghz via a USB dongle.
@@ClyFaker Which keys have different sizes between redragon k599 and redragon k631? And also which keyboard is easier to find keycap sets as I plan to change all the keycap after buying either k599 or k631?
The main differences are the right shift, right alt, function, and app keys. The K631 uses smaller versions while the K599 uses standard sized ones. It'll be easier to find caps for the K599, though not impossible for the K631.
Thank you for the info. The manual itself is not very clear. Just got this and although I am not into rgb I hace to say the video does not do it full justice. It looks even better irl even during daytime. That's the "magic" of the north facing LEDs I guess. Also a question for anyone that might know. In the software there is a lighting mode called "music mode". Whenever I switch to it from within the software it runs fine. Once I exit the software it stops and goes back to waveform or something like that. Does anyone know how to fix this?
@@ClyFaker Oh, ok. Thank you. It would have been so cool though if you could just set it as a standard profile without using the software. I wonder if the software can run while gaming though. I'll have to try. It's a nice keyboard in general. Considering the price.
Yeah, that's the downside to having the software monitor system audio instead of using a mic in the board or an audio passthrough connector. The software should be able to run in the background while gaming though.
I appreciate the effort on this video. Great review. Will you do another one for pro version of this one? I think they all the same except pro version has 3 connection modes.
Just picked this one up. Do you have any idea how to stop the lights from turning off after it has idled for a minute or two? Its a good feature but the time period before it turns off is way too fast.
I'd have to go with the K631. Not only is it 65% instead of 60%, but it also has universal switch sockets for when you want to upgrade. The K617 only has Huano sleeves, which really limits your switch choices (not as much as Outemu sleeves though). Also, there is a wireless version of the K631 called the K631 Pro.

They're decent. The walls are thicker than some, so they don't sound that hollow and they're comfortable. Good for ABS, but PBT still feels and sounds better.

@@ClyFaker Hi, i have problem on the software. every time i click ok and the software is closed, my custom profiles is not applied to the keyboard. Only whenever i opened the software
That's odd. I just tested with mine, and the only setting didn't transfer to the board was the music mode. I even took it to a different computer without the software installed without issue. Did you hit "apply" in the software? If that still doesn't work try resetting the keyboard and then applying the profile again.
@@ClyFakerexactly i was trying music mode and its not saved when i close the software. Edit, yes i click on apply before clicking OK. thanks for fast response
Yeah, music mode will not save to your keyboard since it's the software doing all of the heavy lifting, not a setting built into the keyboard's firmware. The same is true with other much more expensive keyboards as well.
shame this does not have any macro keys. they're very handy. I don't understand the rush to making smaller and smaller keyboards. I still have an old PS2 keyboard from the late 90s or early 2000s, and it's big and chunky. it's a nice feeling typing on it.
Any key is a macro key if you have the right software. Sadly the official rebinding software isn't quite ready yet, but there are free alternatives of you don't mind not having LED control. Part of the drive for smaller keyboards is gaming, which means any unneeded keys are removed and less used keys are moved to the function layer. Another reason is the price of customization. It's a while lot cheaper to mod a 60% keyboard vs a full sized one.
@@ClyFaker I absolutely agree. for work or productivity full size or tkl are fine. But for gaming, smaller keyboards and bigger mousepads are preferred for mobility and flexibility. I personally hate 60% keyboards though but love the TKL and 65% ones.
Yep, and it looks like that will be in a few more of their keyboards going forward. It's in this one as well as its brother the Pollux (which I've also reviewed), and they also updated the K530 (now the K530 Pro) with that feature as well. There's also a couple other keyboards coming that I know about that should have universal sockets as well.
