    One correction, I mention the Herald Foreign Legion, it should be Herald 7th Cav. that came before these figures.

    I remember looking in the window of our local hobby shop at Britains figures when I was a kid. Despite not being a collector of Foreign Legion figures I very nearly bought the gattling gun team simply because it looked so wonderful.

    British writer P.C. Wren (Percival Christopher Wren, 1875-1941) was the author of many books on the French Foreign Legion, including Beau Geste. This was first published in 1924, and film versions quickly followed. Britains were not the only maker of Foreign Legion figures, Airfix did some little HO/OO boxes of Legionnaires and Arabs, as well as a desert fort (and later a 54mm figure kit). ESCI of Italy also did boxes of 1/72nd scale figures, which were later re-issued by Italeri.

    A gentle washing with worm, soapy water would soon bring those legionaries looking as good as new.
    I used an old toothebush and hand soap, followed by a light spray of WD-40, to clean and polish mine.

    Haha remember that scene in the Laurel and Hardy movie where Stan and Ollie are in a fine mess in the Foreign Legion where all the guys are mooning over the pictures of their sweetheart back home?It is the same girl.

    Impressive bulging cheeks on the bugler, à la Dizzy Gillespie almost. Great they put that much thought into it.

    March or Die with Gene Hackman was what inspired my Legionaires! These figures tend to be difficult to find compared to other Deetails! I'm missing a couple of backpacks. I've never seen the one piece arm/sword mounted figure. The marching figure seems the rarest of the group? I also altered the buglers by cutting the pistol off and making a hole through the hand with pin. One holding a French flag vertical, slightly angled from Napoleonics and the other with a sword in a horizontal position!

      Hans, I agree that these can be hard to find. I like that idea of altering the Bugler. I may try that. I took a Deetail American Civil War flag bearer and changed him into a Foreign Legion Flag Bearer pointing a sword. Thanks for watching! We have a Deetail Overview video too.

      The Hardest Deetail figures to find for me are, the Mexicans, Foreign Legion and Vehicles. My grandson loves playing with all the other sets we have and his favorites are the Knights Vs Saracen which we combine with a Melissa and Doug Castle set for some real fun.

      Thanks Mick, much appreciated! We were thinking of doing the next Britains Deetail guide video on the rare Mexican Cowboys. Do you think that is a good subject?

    I bought a " junk " box at a garage sale , there were about 29 Britians , there were a few cowboys , some Saracens the legionaires were stripped and repainted Tan with the accessories as you described.

      That sounds like a great find! The company that now owns the molds (DSG) sells them in tan, green and more. Thanks for watching.

    Bonjour . Britains était vraiment des figurines fantastiques que de souvenirs que de bataille dans le jardin . Aujourd'hui je suis devenu collectionneur et c'est vraiment dommage que l'on ne peux encore en acheter . Je fais des films d'animation et je les mets en scène j'adore les chevaux car en jouant avec les positions cela donne l'impression que le cavalier galope.

    I would like more description of the arab warriors

    • @collectorguys
      @collectorguys  Год назад

      Sure. Britains released "The Arabs" (their term) the same year, 1975. There were 6 mounted Arabs and 6 on foot. The Arabs received no heavy weapon (like the Legions Gatling Gun). Like the Legion, the Arabs only lasted until 1978. The molds were sold, and are still made by a company called DSG. We'll do a video on them soon, but you can see them in our video titled "Battle at Fort Jean." Thanks for watching.
