  • If You are in the market for a video projector most people will recommend certain brands or models.
    With some knowledge and a list of basic things to consider buying a projector can be easy even for beginners. But with new models every week there will never be a good answer to the Question "What video projector should I buy?"
    instead let’s look at resolution, dlp vs. lcd, calculate throw ratios of projectors and calculate how many lumens a video projector needs according to the Lux on Your projection area.
    The projectors I'm using range from 145 $ to 135,000 $ and every one of them has it's up- and down-sides.
    So, there isn't "the perfect projector". But Feel free to use these tips to find one that fits Your needs.
    And for the German viewers: Dies ist ein Einkaufsberater für Beamer.

    Funny I often ask myself that question every time I go into my local office works and look at the projectors - thanks

    Very interesting! Thanks for the video. To get rid of the hot spot I used to use (20 years ago) Kim Milliken's Optixx Polylens rigid screen that had a fresnel and a lenticular lens built in but it was only available in sizes up to 2400mm wide so it was only used in TV studios for back projection. Interesting to see how screen material has progressed. Thanks again!

    Your videos are so helpful and informative. Started to use projections in my cabaret club. And now want to take it to another level. I have a ST 3600lm and 35,000 contrast (I think) and that I projected a showreel for the club onto a sort of tracing paper from the inside of the doors. Looked amazing at night. I mean WOW!!!! But daylight it vanished. Totally washed out. What can I get as a medium? Or do I need to jump in lumins/contrast. Thank you in advance.

      Thank You and thanks for watching.
      The necessary light hugely depends on the size also. But of course on the light conditions mainly. (5 times the available light)
      But in this case You might be suffering from the projection surface picking up too much light from the ambient and thus shortening the contrast between surface and projection.
      I just started a little series about surfaces and projection optimizing finishes. (I’m just too busy with my actual job to edit it in time. Sorry)
      But there are screens and paints out there that are like milky glass, they cath the projection but don’t pick up the ambient light do much.
      In Your case I think using a black screen light the Optiblack 2.0 doesn’t seem to be a good idea as it needs a lot more light.

      philipp7pc thank you. Really decent of you to reply. Been experimenting with different gauzes within the club last night. Might be able to get a 3m x 3m hololusion for about 800e. Or is that too good to be true. Great videos. Truly very informative. I worked in lots of shows West end. Tours. Operas etc. So always been too close to the effects to actually see how they work or fail. But now I have my very own little “theatre” I get to experiment with lots of effects. Thank you again :-)

      @@contessaguapatini You're welcome. using a "holo"-Gauze or something like this in retro projection might defeat the purpose. Those should be used for frontprojection.
      How many dollars are "800e"?

    Hmmm… how many lumens needed to project on a 20 x 20 foot screen… or 20 x 40 🤔 maybe two projectors to cover - two - 20 x 20 screens???
    Might two cost less than one (like two Sony 7As iiis cost less than one A1

    6. Resolução (720p ate 4k)
    7. Lentes alcance (short = 0.x meters) too far away too wide, mto perto mto prqueno ou projetor c lentes moveis

    Can you just give me a quick answer I’m in a band we’re touring Europe April Germany maybe will see you there lol. Anyways I wanna project behind us but maybe a short throw because I don’t want it to be in front of the band casting light on the band members. Can you recommend one?

    • @philipp7pc
      @philipp7pc  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Short throw projectors are very rarely my biz on stages. The only thing I know for sure is that the wider the lens the more light you might lose being spread too wide. ;]
      Sorry, no direct recommendation here but: a big pro projector with a mirrored lens. Panasonic offers a good one for their RZ21k.
      That'll be a rental I guess.

    I think my questions would be-What projector should I be in the market for to use with your OptiBalck screen? I am a one man band but want the image of a Huge Amplifier on the background.

    • @philipp7pc
      @philipp7pc  2 года назад

      That hugely depends on the size of Your desired image.

    We are searching fo a good projector to rent for a professional theatrical production. Rear projection with a short distance, high luminosity. Any ideas?

    • @philipp7pc
      @philipp7pc  Год назад

      Hi Vivianne, thanks for watching. I'm pretty sure when talking theatre we are talking about the need of about 20,000 Lumens (at the edge of too weak and far too expensive).
      Most rental companies will offer Panasonics 21k - mostly today the solid light version RZ 21k.
      That might be just one of the best projectors out there. Offering a wide range of lenses and many useful features.
      Surely you've watched ruclips.net/video/GioVQi0pQ14/видео.html to chose the best screen for Your rear projection. ;]

      To measure lumens with my phone I use the highly unscientific Luxmeter by Galctica. I think mainly because it was free.
