This information will save me a lot of time at some point, as I started practicing with my only Hill style type bow recently. Just recently solved an anchor issue I've had for a while. Would not want to go through the process of figuring out a bow grip issue on my own without knowing what you just shared. Your videos are so helpful.
😅 In the 1960s. A really terrific competitive Archer. Jim jim Pickering would say. If you want arrows to group well, you must pay attention to your grip. Of course I was young and Thought that was silly until I tried it.Your grip is extremely important,! Lefty
Yep, grip makes all the difference in the world. Got to love it when God opens our eyes to the real source of a problem. usually it is me LOL. love all of those longbow types and have most of them. another awesome video Brother, keep em coming!
R.C. I have never owned a long bow, mostly self bows an recurves but have heard a lot of people say as long as you're doing your part on the average the long bow is inherently more accurate an forgiving then either the self bows or recurves. Don,t have any experience to back this up . Any help on that.
@@robertcarte95 Mine is minor R&D in B shape like a Plains Native American bow when bow is unstrung and looks like a D shape when strung but still mainly in an ASL design. Oher, ASL with a locator I have is an old all Fiberglass 60 inch bow with a fiberglass handle over a wrap in a duel sided design and is only 34--35 pounds on a 36 pound bow at a 24--24.5 inch for my draw a so shock is mitigated by a longbow Issue. Actionbow by Actionrod makes the bow, a brand making only mid level fly fishing rods.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I've been fighting the same thing for quite awhile now. Thank you sir, you fixed my problem. I went from a recure to a bow similar to your Hill style. LOL I was beginning to think I was crazy.
I still use on locator/notched bows a full grip like one does with a straight, dished, or round/oval like some no shelf bows like English and Asiatic. It is more needed on a universal locator/notched grip longbows and some skinny limb recurves/older static tipped recurve because bows are closer to a an ASL or English longbow.
I get the pressure is low in the heel but Do you put the pressure on the meat of your thumb or is it in the groove or life line between your thumb and palm?
Thank you. I've been going through this.
I sure thought it was bad form . But it everything u said.
Yep, with ASL grip is 90% for me. Get the grip right and they shoot amazingly accurate and consistent.

I ordered me one of the new gator 2 bows, hopefully that reverse grip won’t mess with me.
most excellent breakdown.
Thanks for this information. I'm going to need to remember this when that longbow gets here
Thank you! Might have solved my issue! My Creek walker has a slight dish. I may not be heeling correctly!

Do you lock your little finger and your thumb on your string hand?
I do as I am drawing.
Gets harder to do the older you get.

Are your Self Bows made like a longbow only a flat or rounded like an English longbow grip?
Hill style grip, flat limbs.
I have a locater on my latest Selfbow. I built it r/d. If I build a straight one i will probably build a straight grip.

Thanks for the video Robert. My grip is a work in progress just like my transition to Hill bows in general. Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for explaining that. I have been struggling with the same thing.

I was always taught …. if ya feel like ya choking a chicken when holding the bow ?
Ya need to lighten up a bit ! 😂😂
Great information! just getting ready to order a bow and need all the info I can get! Thanks Robert
I have to work thru that everytime if I don't shoot every day.. good reminder RC
I am going through the same thing right now. Appreciate the video.

Thanks for sharing.
I get the pressure is low in the heel but Do you put the pressure on the meat of your thumb or is it in the groove or life line between your thumb and palm?
I was told between thumb and palm on bottom but on top on meat of thumb.
Life line for me. Very consistent.
