Always a pleasure, Baldermort. Still crazy to me that the only official visual we have of the Khrave are a single image from an EXTREMELY limited-edition lore book, the Liber Xenologis.

Wow a species so rare theres only one picture of it. That lore is deeper than the deep warp. I didnt even know they existed so im excited to hear about this horrible hellbeast
This was great! Thank you! Though I slightly disagree as far as the table top is concerned. In my humble opinion itd be pretty rad if they got a limited model line like only a few units. Maybe only playable in kill team!?!
I find it odd that theres still any other aliens in the 40k universe. We only hear about the main factions but never really the minor xenos. Gw should beef a few up or something so things dont get stale.
I agree, I always said they should at the very least designate some short story's and stand alone novels to some lesser know aliens. I would for sure be interested.
I feel like the designers could re-imagine the Khrave and other elements of the Ghoul Stars like they did with the Votann. Something that lets them import the aspect elements from Old World vampire counts and Age of Sigmar's Death aligned factions into something fitting the setting of 40k. Because we have WAY too many Imperial factions.
I agree, I always said they should at the very least designate some short story's and stand alone novels to some lesser know aliens. I would for sure be interested.
@baldermort always love the stories of the bald library! If you we to make your own chapter, who would they be based on? Also I neeeeeeed a space shark story written from their perspective…. I’m on my knees begging and pleading!
Thank you for the video. You've got my brain thinking. And you're right, I do think the Khrave should be made a playable faction. You know there is a large segment of people who would pick up Warhammer if 'vampires' were put into it. Admittedly, just based off this video, they would need fresh lore to flesh them out, new characters to make them interesting, and maybe a little retcon to make them more unique. Here's my take on how it could be done. As a faction, I think it would be interesting to have them play as a hybrid faction. Like the vampire counts of fantasy, they would have rules, and synergies based around powerful hero and lord characters. Specifically, the khrave could field a unit from another faction. These mind dominated units would have all the same stats, so you could mix and match units from multiple factions. Maybe this could come at an increased point cost, plus the tax of needing to bring along a character to make sure they stay in line. If the dominating khrave dies, then that unit it was controlling takes a battle shock test every round as their minds wilt away. I think this mechanic in and of itself would make the khrave stand out and be interesting. To make them more interesting, because as you said they share a few too many qualities with other factions, I think the hive mind should have a light retcon where instead of a true hivemind, they instead simply have strong psychic bonds, but each khrave is still an individual. If an individual khrave doesn't want to do what the rest of the 'nest' wants they can, but depending on severity of their individual actions, maybe they can be dominated by the others, or even killed. Suffice it to say, the khrave have something approaching a hivemind, but its a voluntary thing. As for new lore, I would introduce a story, maybe a book, that goes over how they live from the first person perspective of a khrave who serves the new king. The new king is the first born of the last king, but no blood right gave him the title of king, he had to fight his way to the top, using his power, both physically and psychically to get the grand majority of the khrave to follow his will. I won't come up with a name so I will simply call him Thonar the Second (Thonar II). Show how under Thonar II the khrave have entered a new era so to speak. Thonar II believes that the galaxy has become too crowded to truly hide anymore. The khrave must create an empire of their own, they must learn to hold territory, and to kill the rebellious cattle so that an age of the Dark can begin. So, Thonar II has set about making a small empire in the ghoul stars. To explain why he is so powerful, I would say that he is nearly as old as his father. I don't know much about the Khrave, but I think to draw people in towards the vampire aesthetic, a weakness to bright light should be implemented. In game this is circumnavigated by them having 'shadow fields' created by their psychic powers, or by tech, it doesn't much matter. But in lore it would be something cool to think about and give them a chink in the armor. Maybe it could come up in game as a mechanic, I just don't know hot it would be implemented. Maybe they get a debuff when they are outside of a building/cover unless you pay points to have them take the shadow field? I'm already deep diving on this pretty hard (look at my word wall), so I'll leave that up to you my dear reader. - As for units of the khrave themselves, I'm thinking they should have the following - Special Characters: + Thonar II - Monarch of the Dark Empire - Ruler of the Khrave, Thonar II is a psychic powerhouse, exceptionally fast, tough, and able to deal great damage. Also has a life-drain ability to deal damage and heal himself in melee combat. Also buffs krave units in the army to make them have better rolls. + Iskarah - Maiden of Massacre - A combat focused character who is able to hide easily, and moves fast. Specializing in wholesale slaughter of infantry units, but hard to pin down, if she doesn't want to stay in one place. + Drothminar - The Mind Binder - A powerful psychic who specializes in leading dominated units, and maybe even has a power to dominate enemy units. Helps to buff dominated units, and debuffs, and/or harms enemy units. Generic Characters: + Khrave Ancient: A powerful Khrave, capable in combat, a powerful psyker, and fast, the Ancient can be outfitted in different ways to enhance an aspect of his play (speed, psyker powers, stealth, ranged combat, or buffing troops). + Khrave Blood Drinker: A powerful assassin character that specializes in killing other characters both from a distance and in melee combat. + Khrave Master: A lesser version of the Khrave Ancient. Not as powerful, but costs less. + Khrave Umbril: A psyker specialist. Debuffer, and damaging psychic attacks. War Machines: + Shadow Engine: Creates areas of darkness around it, providing cover bonuses, and maybe other buffs to Khrave units. + Altar of Submission: Enhances dominated warrior units in range, and debuffs enemy units in range. Monsters: + Khrave Talons: A unit of more common Khrave who specialize in close combat, but do less damage, and have less health than the following Blood Wings. + Khrave Blood Wings: A unit of more elite Khrave warriors who specialize in close combat. tough + Khrave Skirmishers: Fast, ranged unit, not great in melee, but can hold its own against lesser units like guardsmen, or normal ranged infantry units. + Khrave Darkblades: A unit of hyper elite Khrave meant to be stealthy, fast and deal devastating damage on a charge, and can hold in combat moderatly well, but really you want to be getting them in and out of close combat with their withdrawal mechanics to get the most out of their charges. their stealth abilities will help them to survive against ranged fire. + Khrave Abomination: Through some kind of sick and twisted rite, a Khrave can be transformed into a giant monster several dozen times larger, with a more bestial appearance, and an insatiable hunger. A berserker type monster creature that dives into enemy lines and rips and tears until the enemy or itself is dead. Basically a giant bat, maybe has a healing mechanic, combined with a life-drain attack. Infantry: + Dominated Warriors: As mentioned above, this unit can be chosen from other factions. But it requires a Khrave character to field one. + Cattle Mob: A unit of cannon fodder humans (no point in including xeno's species Games Workshop won't make the extra effort to model them). Meant to take charges, and slow the enemy down, not much else. Immune to battle shock tests. + Unbound: Free willed guards equipped with semi decent weapons and armor, meant to hold down objectives and provide ranged support from where they dig in. + Darklings: Psychicly manifested shades of the souls who the Khrave have murdered, bound to serve them until their dark masters have also been slain. A unit that goes into melee combat with the sole purpose of tying the enemy down, and debuffing them rather than dealing damage. Not great at objective holding. tough. This is all I've got for now, but I welcome suggestions of course!
Remember citizens of the Imperium every alien race is a creature that will relished in the suffering of our race, and only we as humans can truly understand more positively emotions, and these aliens could rival the evils of the Dark Eldar.
Psychic powers, effectively immortal, terrifying vampiric motif, powerful energy weapons, and hailing from a largely unexplored sector? Indeed, in the grim darkness of the far future, even the Stargate Atlantis Wraith are a minor sideshow.
I have no idea how the Raven Guard and Blood Angels beat back the Khrave. Without the Dreadwing's super weapons, there's no way in Hell anyone was defeating their psychic hive mind. Also, was it just me, or did Lord of the First insinuate that the Dark Angels could do literally everything better than every other Legion? I remember specifically it talking about them being able to out sneak the Alpha Legion.
It's been so long since I've heard mention of the Khrave, that they'd almost slipped my memory (which is probably how they like it!) 😁 These guys, along with the Barghessi and other creepies of the Ghoul Stars, have always been some of my favourite bits of world building... it's genuinely a shame that 40k is becoming something more akin to a saturday morning cartoon, and forgetting its roots. Maybe it's time for some of the old stories to step out into the light, and remind the Imperium (and its current writers) of why Humanity in the far future still fears the dark... 😈 Thank you for keeping these shadowed parts of the lore alive, Ser B., and thank you for another brilliant video.
Something i hope they do in the future is split CSM into several god legions and the associated daemons (one for each major god plus one for iron warriors/vashtorr/dark mech), but i also hope chaos undivided gets split into two: chaos undivided and chaos unalligned. Chaos undivided would be Black Legion, Word Bearers and Belakor's daemons. Chaos unaligned would be renegades (fronted by Red Corsairs), night lords and alpha legion, but also including some chaos xenos. The Krave, the Dog Warriors who've been mentioned working with the red corsairs, etc. I think this would be an interesting sort of faction. I think the Krave would make natural allies for the Night Lords and Alpha Legion, making this sort of a vampiric themed space pirate faction sort of chaos faction rather than being more conventional CSM. For centerpiece models to compete with primarchs, i could imagine some Khrave alpha obtaining Conrad Kurz's crown amd then getting possessed by his lingering soul, twisting it even further. This would make a sort of dark mirror faction to the Tau, a smaller faction of chaos but gaining ground fast and spreading anarchy and terror as they do. Not big enough to be exestential threats to the imperium but strong enough to play a sort of kingmaker in the great game, to small to win, to big to ignore or anihilate.
I don't know. Figuratively combining two factions into a third would probably appeal to a fair number of people. And if the Eldar are space elves, Votann space dwarves, the Krave might fill the "niche" of space vampires, at least aesthetically. Some might think the Drukhari are already space vampires, and they are not _not_ space vampires, but they're much more Dark Elves meet Frankenstein than classic vampires.
HEY UNCLE, (AND ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO READ A HORROR STORY ABOUT THE KHRAVE), THE BLACK LIBRARY HAS A SHORT STORY CALLED "THE ISENBRACH HORROR" BY: DARIUS HINKS IT IS FOUND INSIDE THE BOOK: "THE RESTING PLACES" A WARHAMMER HORROR ANTHOLOGY, THAT HAS 10 SHORT HORROR STORIES SET IN THE 40K UNIVERSE ALL BY TOP BLACK LIBRARY AUTHORS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!, AS IT SHINES A LIGHT ON LESSER KNOWN XENO RACES, MONSTERS, ANOMALIES, AND HORRORS THAT REMIND YOU JUST HOW TERRIFYING THE GREAT CRUSADE , AND THE DARKNESS OF "OLD NIGHT" REALLY WERE! AND THIS STORY ABOUT THE KHRAVE IS LEGITIMATELY CREEPY! I LOVED IT! 👍🏻🤘🏻🤣 ANYWAY, BLACK LIBRARY IS AWESOME.....BUT IF YOU WERE ONE OF THEIR AUTHORS UNCLE....BY THE THRONE...IT WOULD BE LEGENDARY! CHEERS BALDERS!
From a Games Workshop perspective, I think the biggest problem is trademarking them; everyone recognizes them from other franchises and many relate them to the villains in Stargate Atlantis, so being able to trademark and restrict their use without a license is too difficult.
Probably wouldn't be able to make an entire faction out of these guys but it would be cool to have a small force for the necromunda or killteam games..... Hell I would buy Khrave just to have the models.
You know, even if they never got their own army, I feel their is space for a minor return to relevance for the Khrave as they could be reestablishing themselves in the Ghoul Stars, seeing as it’s now in Imperium Nihilus
Suggestion: How about something on xenos in the Sol System before it was restored to mankind before the Great Crusade. I know there were some, but I have never even heard what species they were.
Thanks for covering one of my favourite xenos, when I was first getting into the game and its vast lore I wanted to see what aliens this setting had and I found the Khrave and I learnt why the imperium is so xenophobic. It's Darwinism out there and it's harsh cruel and callous, it's only us in our current liberalism and hubris that believe in tolerance. I do enjoy the setting as it really does explain why after 5000 of xenos predation, why humanity reverted back to law nature's law.

I would for sure be interested.
good to have you back brother Baldermort, hopefully one day GW will flesh the khrave out as a playable faction
I love when you show us elements of the setting I've never even heard of. Another nasty bunch of xenos.
Yeah, I think.
Thank you for amother tale lord Baldermort.

I always enjoy lore from the refine voice of Brother Baldermort
@baldermort always love the stories of the bald library! If you we to make your own chapter, who would they be based on?
Also I neeeeeeed a space shark story written from their perspective…. I’m on my knees begging and pleading!
Oi Oi! Glad to see you back Baldy!
- As for units of the khrave themselves, I'm thinking they should have the following -
Special Characters:
+ Thonar II - Monarch of the Dark Empire - Ruler of the Khrave, Thonar II is a psychic powerhouse, exceptionally fast, tough, and able to deal great damage.
Generic Characters:
+ Khrave Ancient: A powerful Khrave, capable in combat, a powerful psyker, and fast, the Ancient can be outfitted in different ways to enhance an aspect of his play (speed, psyker powers, stealth, ranged combat, or buffing troops).
War Machines:
+ Shadow Engine: Creates areas of darkness around it, providing cover bonuses, and maybe other buffs to Khrave units.
+ Altar of Submission: Enhances dominated warrior units in range, and debuffs enemy units in range.
Monsters:
+ Khrave Talons: A unit of more common Khrave who specialize in close combat, but do less damage, and have less health than the following Blood Wings.
+ Khrave Blood Wings: A unit of more elite Khrave warriors who specialize in close combat. tough
+ Khrave Skirmishers: Fast, ranged unit, not great in melee, but can hold its own against lesser units like guardsmen, or normal ranged infantry units.
Infantry:
+ Dominated Warriors: As mentioned above, this unit can be chosen from other factions.
Anything that doesn't involve retcons is fine; the rest is not.
we encountered Krave in a warhammer tabletop rpg game they were traped in cages and being traded to dark elddat pirate
11:57- Oh, these guys are from the Ghoul Stars? Interesting.
I love your Stories! I will say it again! You should be employed by GW as official voice of the Black Library!
Great Servo-Scribe will you also touch the vile xenos to the west of Holy Terra known as the Q'orl in the future?
Remember citizens of the Imperium every alien race is a creature that will relished in the suffering of our race, and only we as humans can truly understand more positively emotions, and these aliens could rival the evils of the Dark Eldar.
Baldermort's stories are the best
We be craving some xeno lore. 😉
Their form and being psykers along with incredible long life. Makes me wonder if they've dealt with Be'lakor at some point.
Yes good brother baldermort wonderful stufff great fun thankyu lore master thankyu good sir 😊
Quite similar to the Vampires from 40K 1st edition, only without the shapechanging or creation of zombies...
The who? Never heard of these xeno! New knowledge!!🎉
Damn that was good.
"If they don't have bread, then let them eat humans" -Marie Khravtoinette, probably
Great comparison between Star Trek and the GrimDark
I genuinely khrave for more of these lore nuggets from the early days of the universe. 👌😀
Another Emperor blessed tale from the Bold one!! Praise to Terra!
Dearest Uncle, did I see a clip of you voicing a certain Librarian asking his brother if he had "taken gene seed from his little battle brother"?😮😂
Of course.
That B’stard was chopping off in front of a statue of Sanguinius!!!!!
He’s lucky I didn’t end him there and then.
The tw*t.
🚫🍍🍕😄👌
@@Baldermort Deserved
Heard about that dreaded white thirst of the Sororitas too!?!
@@spartan2870 what video is this from?
Thank you , Brother Baldermort .
🐺Loupis Canis .
Wish GW would play around a bit and make some experimental rules for these sort of races in their White Dwarf magazine.
Just play the old games, dude.
This channel is criminally underrated! One of the best 40k channels, full stop!
Thank you for this Warhammer 40,000 tribute, this your Wednesday Warhammer 40,000 tribute.
Hell yeah, space marine!
"...the red angel"
Wait...
Love the obscure stuff
Khrave could be neat enemies in 40k RPGs, or something like Blackstone Fortress, as a monster encounter.
We love you baldie💙
The OG Star Vampires where always a favourite, someone at GW really liked Lifeforce.
Babe! Cancel the dinner plans! Baldermort's dropped another vid! ❤
The Khrave: They bite you and force you to go buy fish ‘n’ chips.
Hi-gothic for British peeps?
I reallllly like this lore.
Psychic powers, effectively immortal, terrifying vampiric motif, powerful energy weapons, and hailing from a largely unexplored sector?
Indeed, in the grim darkness of the far future, even the Stargate Atlantis Wraith are a minor sideshow.
Wonderful video. I had no idea about these chaps. Excellent stuff.
Thank you for keeping these shadowed parts of the lore alive, Ser B., and thank you for another brilliant video.
Baldy protects, baldy provides!
Dude we got a roll tide joke that’s awesome lol
Better than the audiobook actors ❤😊
Thank you
Love to uncle Baldy have great Christmas!🥰
I don't know. Figuratively combining two factions into a third would probably appeal to a fair number of people. And if the Eldar are space elves, Votann space dwarves, the Krave might fill the "niche" of space vampires, at least aesthetically.
Some might think the Drukhari are already space vampires, and they are not _not_ space vampires, but they're much more Dark Elves meet Frankenstein than classic vampires.
HEY UNCLE, (AND ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO READ A HORROR STORY ABOUT THE KHRAVE), THE
BLACK LIBRARY HAS A SHORT STORY CALLED
"THE ISENBRACH HORROR"
BY: DARIUS HINKS
IT IS FOUND INSIDE THE
BOOK:
"THE RESTING PLACES"
A WARHAMMER HORROR
ANTHOLOGY, THAT HAS 10 SHORT HORROR STORIES SET IN THE 40K UNIVERSE
ALL BY TOP BLACK LIBRARY AUTHORS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!,
AS IT SHINES A LIGHT ON LESSER KNOWN XENO RACES, MONSTERS, ANOMALIES, AND HORRORS THAT REMIND YOU JUST HOW TERRIFYING THE GREAT CRUSADE , AND THE DARKNESS OF
"OLD NIGHT" REALLY WERE!
AND THIS STORY ABOUT THE KHRAVE IS LEGITIMATELY CREEPY!
I LOVED IT! 👍🏻🤘🏻🤣
ANYWAY, BLACK LIBRARY
IS AWESOME.....BUT IF YOU WERE ONE OF THEIR AUTHORS UNCLE....BY THE THRONE...IT WOULD BE LEGENDARY!
CHEERS BALDERS!
Been a minute servo skull. I’m not getting notifications.
This is the first time I realized that the servo skull is holding an inkpot and not a coffee mug.
From a Games Workshop perspective, I think the biggest problem is trademarking them; everyone recognizes them from other franchises and many relate them to the villains in Stargate Atlantis, so being able to trademark and restrict their use without a license is too difficult.
I khrave only you, uncle Baldermort
🥺
👉👈
If Warhammer is a war game, then would a peace game be more complicated or less complicated?
Man-Bats in 40k cool beans to learn about
Probably wouldn't be able to make an entire faction out of these guys but it would be cool to have a small force for the necromunda or killteam games..... Hell I would buy Khrave just to have the models.
So little artowork of these things that uncle B had to use the manbat from Arkham Knight as a fill-in
I love manbat.
You know, even if they never got their own army, I feel their is space for a minor return to relevance for the Khrave as they could be reestablishing themselves in the Ghoul Stars, seeing as it’s now in Imperium Nihilus
Humans are food, not friends
- the Khrave
Suggestion: How about something on xenos in the Sol System before it was restored to mankind before the Great Crusade. I know there were some, but I have never even heard what species they were.
Noice 👍
Thanks dude. See you tonight. :)
