Another positive to not cooking with oil is cleaning up dishes is a breeze!
That is one of my favorite reasons Not to use oil!
Omg never thought of that. Oil is my pet peave with washing up!

Same here.
@Vincent Savoye I use a hot air popcorn popper, but here are some other ideas: ruclips.net/video/ruldNDs31tQ/видео.html
That's how clean are your insides too 👍
Eating at home without oil is easy. Eating out is nearly impossible.
Robert Klevens I know! I can’t believe how much oil is in everything. Baked goods, boiled veg, salad dressings, rice, noodles, soups, grilled items, it not just all the deep fried stuff. Very frustrating.
Indeed, my last Thai express veggies stir fry order where laddered in oil, and I asked to go easy on the oil prior it got to the cook. Maybe next time I ask NO oil, the pans are already coated with oil would be enough, you would think!
@@volucu Why wouldn't you believe that? It is in everything because people like the way it tastes. People usually go out to eat the food they like to eat and people like oil.
Most restaurants have baked potatoes you can sub for sides, that helps with sides
I ask for vinegar -- so my favorite pan-Asian I order brown rice, salad, Broccoli, red pepper, cucumber, jalapeño and rice vinegar...
I've been vegan for a few years now but just this past month went totally oil free. It was way easier than I thought and I started feeling the benefits almost immediately. I have endometriosis and was born without my esophagus formed and have had multiple surgeries. Going oil free has helped me so much with inflammation, pain, bloating related to my gi and endo problems.
Omg.. I just seeing this video and your comment... I have stage 4 Endometriosis and i have tried almost everything to stop this horrific pain every month ive had for years but just a few days ago i read that oil may be causing my inflammtion which blew my mind because i thought certain oils were healthy.. this why im here but hearing that going oil free has helped you is super encouraging to me.. thanks for sharing...❤🙏🏿
@@shesagem1745 hello jazzy, how things are now?
@@shesagem1745 need a follow up!
The oil is the worst food ! Even the most high quality organic cold pressed oils made me so many harms in the body and I suspect that eating oils before led to to some skin cancers in many people ! I eat thouroughly oil -free meals and feel wonderfully !
Are you dairy free, if you are vegan? Animals suffers when suck their milk all the time.
I recently started to cook without oil and I realized two things: 1.) waste of money buying oil 2.) I realized how pointless it was
I'm just getting there now 😩 Its certainly not pointless when it comes to flavour, but it's pricey and not needed, and easy enough to cut out. It's just an adjustment.
He is so friendly and explain everything so clearly and bright. I love his videos so much
Lol canadians
Totally agree
Anyone know if he’s single ? Love me a guy that is hot and can cook
Thats because he is promoting a spesific product thats why
There are plenty of people on RUclips promoting a certain diet who will demonize food talk to their audience like everyone is an idiot.
One month vegan, thanks to your videos, you have made the transition easy and fun. While doing food prep i have your videos on which makes it go quicker. I have lived with depression for 28ys and within 4days my mood was improved. I also quit coffee and dairy the same day. I just wanted to really thank you for helping me change my life, and headspace. Sending gratitude from Australia.
Wow! I really hope things continue to improve for you. I know life is stressful right now over there. Remember no progress is ever linear. Just keep moving forward and stay consistent. There is no other way. Sending good vibes from Canada!
I loovvee how he looks so bright and happy explaining
Just started plant based 6 days ago and loving it so far. Started it in an attempt to get lean after 58 years. I was working out and hit a spot where I just couldn't get the numbers to move. Started research on plant based eating and figured it would help by simply reducing my caloric intake if nothing else. I stumbled on your vids looking for ways to kick things up a notch. Never considered how much the oil made a difference. Great results so far, lets see how eliminating oil helps. Thanks for the advice!
I just started a week ago. I'm loving it. Challenging because I'm the only one in my house but I'm finding lots of resources and encouragement on RUclips.
@@pamdoherty723 + @mike c this is amazing to Hear! It’s super great for you and the environment!! I found when I switched I gained a much better focus on whole and filling foods. Started looking more at food as something that will fuel me than just hit the cravings. Obviously that fuel will taste good too. I’m talking chevron with techron (imagine if this was a new style of ad lol 😳). So finding less calorically dense foods filled with fiber and protein that fill me up for longer and help get me all those nutrients. I used to eat for instance an entire bad of chips and STILL feel hungry like an hour later and not know why. But now if all makes sense. Anyways! I hope both of your journeys are going well and that with the troubles of Covid you’ve found more time cooking and finding creat nutritious recipes :)))
Limiting oil is great, but go further and watch Refined Complex Carbohydrates, even vegan cheese is high in fat. And eat seeds and nuts in moderation
Not sure if someone mentioned already but you can toss your yam fries with corn starch and your choice of spices for crispier yam fries.
Cool! Gonna try that!
Wonderful idea. Thank you.
K - No you can't.
Yumm!
Corn starch contains fatty liptons that coagulate your blood regulation and your dymethaltryptamine production. Its common concensus among top nutritionists, scientists, and dietitians that corn starch hydrogenated from the capalairies of hemoglobin in corn production all leads to the fact that I have no clue what I'm talking about.
I'm at a point in my life where this video came to me. It must be divine.
I feel you bro. This video making me rethink some things
I've recently converted to no oil in cooking and it's amazing. Food tastes so much better. I feared the veggies will be dry and burnt, but they super juicy and full of flavor. Well done on healthy cooking and thank you for sharing your recipes! As someone mentioned before, doing dishes is way easier, a light rinse - done!
This guy is so user-friendly!💪
12:00 Derek burning his mouth has become a trademark of his videos. Also, watching you interrupt your own talking by nibbling on food is really funny.
Oil free since I've started following you! Love how much better you feel when not consuming it regularly, my skin became better, my digestive system runs nice, plus you can eat a little more in return 👌
"Ive just put my hand in some beans" can't get more vegan than that lol
Omg 😂😂
I can't😂😂
We pretty much do what you do. You have a great way of communicating your thoughts and explaining things properly. Much love!
Of all the people i've seen, this guy has the most adorable eyes, like a cute little puppy :o Can't help but notice, being at the center of the screen and all.
colorful eyes seem piercing to me. puppy eyes are brown to me
He really do tho
Lol the crazy thing is he's in his mid 30s! Being vegan keeps you looking and feeling young and healthy :D
I think you’ve had too much oil
I had problems with my appetite and by waching his videos I started to love food again. Thanks man!
Oils always makes me really tired. When I dont have them, I have more energy. It doesnt matter what oil it is. I've tried all of them. I think this is about genetics maybe too. I can't digest much fat. I mostly eat only hi quality protein and carbs and i feel fine. We all are different.
EDIT: Oils gives me instant brain fog and stomach problems.
It's pure artificially concentrated fat that does not exist in nature, much like sugar. It demands much more energy from the body to break down and digest.
Have you tried lard? Or real butter? These oils being pushed on us as healthy are actually cancerous.
@@spaceshiptomoon I haven't tried lard but Ive tried all butters.. also Ghee. Everything that is from cow gives me instant brainfog and stomach problems.. I think Im just very sensitive to that casein. A2 casein type cow's butter might work but not available in Finland.
@@jayray1637 ghee is supposed to be 100% fat so it shouldn't have any casein proteins or lactose in it. Though I think there might be something to fat causing brain fog because of how calorie dense it is. Oils probably even moreso.
@@Blue_Ocean720 Yes I think my body cant take much fat. I've noticed that since I was a teenager. But some fats makes me much sicker that others. For example all oils and butter makes me feel super fatigued.. but eating little bit of nuts is okay (even though they are hi in fat). I really don't know what's the mechanism of it.
I feel the best version of myself with hi carb (hi quality carb) diet, some protein and very low fat. Also all meats makes me feel sick, even turkey fillet. Only some low fat fish works for me. We are all different.
I had food diary for over 10 years. That was the only way to find all food that makes me feel sick. Doctors never could help me.
Love his personality. He's very informative and knowledgeable. And he has the most amazing blue eyes. I'm glad that I found his channel.

I just discovered your channel about a week ago, and I can't believe what I've been missing! Your enthusiasm and energy is wonderful! Thanks for these tips...🌱❤️
you need to check the real facts in history before you start believing this vegan Bozo he is stating false claims about olive oil
Awesome video. I love your outtake on so many things, but looking at the nutrients density of foods is such a great way to choose what to eat. You've inspired me to eat mainly whole foods for a few weeks now, and your positivity is really motivating. I'm glad there are people like you out there.
I'm shook. I never even thought to look at the nutrition label on any oil I've ever used. That's a lot of calories.
J G his obsession with scientific research... break that down for me
Black hat 😆man you’re hilarious. What a guy🤣
J G also, who eats a tablespoon of olive in one sitting? Lol I use that amount to sauté a large batch of veggies or to make a stir fry. Therefore that amount of calories is spread out over the course of several meals.
Right!? I'm so surprised, I cant believe it!
@Donald Hariot True, just be careful how much oil you use. Also, canola oil has less calories than olive oil.
Awesome video..glad that I found your U tube channel . I used to be 86kg in year 2012 .

Dude I was always so confused about the whole yam and sweet potato confusion, but one day I finally researched it enough and found the answer: THE ARE ALL SWEET POTATOES. Everything you see in a store whether it is labeled a yam or a sweet potato is in fact a SWEET POTATO. There are many different kinds. The only yam that exists is one from Africa that is VERY large, white, and very hard and is rarely ever seen in stores. Don’t listen to the produce peeps they never know. LOL!!!! Anyways, fun fact. Hopefully this clears things up for people. :)
Ari Wing - THANK YOU. It sucks that so many people believe the "the orange ones are yams" thing. orange, white, purple, whatever, they're all sweet potatoes. A yam looks like a giant turd-shaped log.
I knew this as of 6 months ago coz it drove me crazy too!
Yams also are found in Asia South and Central America. There are over 150 different types ranging a small potato to 7.5 ft weighing 120 lbs. Color ranging from white orange purple and pink. The biggest difference yams have more sugar then sweet potatoes. Yams are lower in vit Aand C. Confusion began when the slaves saw the sweet potatoes. They used their word for sweet potatoes and the slave owners misheard. The owners called them yams.
Oh my God this had been an on going question for me thank you lol
@@steveclaas856 When you're comparing things, use the word "than." The word "then" is used for time or sequence. For instance "This apple is larger than that apple." and "I ate the apple, then I ate a banana."
Lots of great recipes and videos; as a heart patient having gone vegan on the Esselstyn books, I've expanded and found many others eating the same good oil-free vegan diet. Lots of good evidence proving the health benefits, and weight loss is something you don't even need to try to do as an oil-free vegan, it just happens naturally. Feeling better than ever. I will never go back to eating the crap in meat and dairy. Thanks for the great work :)

Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it. You know, I view a lot of RUclips channels featuring whole-food plant-based cooking, since I’m so passionate to get this right. You’re obviously quite bright and committed and I wish you every success. I promise, I will keep watching as much as I can. Thanks!
I love the chaos in these videos, much more relatable lol
You are so right about oil. I keep a little jar of black olives in my fridge to use in salad dressing. I just crush a couple of them for one big salad and they have much more flavor and much more nutrition than than olive oil.
Reverend Al be safe about the sodium content of olives though
Reverend Al That's also what I do to add flavor. No oil is needed to get the flavors you want in your salad.
Seth Levandowski LOL be safe, for someone who sweats alot I eat as much salt as I can
This is why I love people from Canada for the most part. They’re so nice and pleasant💞

Indoors I am oil-free and added sugar free (my exception is I do enjoy maple syrup on popcorn rarely). I have avoided silicon mats for baking so far. I couldn't find safety research on them for baking, so I have stuck to using paper myself.
I also do not limit myself when I eat out (which isn't often).
Another exception is if something new comes out, I may buy it and cook it at home, so I might try a new burger (I recently tried the beyond meat burger for the first time), I like to keep up with new stuff, but I do not buy stuff like that regularly, just as a test to see what new stuff people have dreamed up. 90% of the time cook everything for scratch...

True story; I used to eat oil drizzled on bread! I always thought oil was a health food and a staple of cooking. Now I’ve become a lot more aware of how many empty calories it is and I try not to cook with it. I’m definitely trying to switch into more Whole Foods because I’m afraid I’ve been a total processed food vegan! Haha 😂
I would love it if you did a video creating a basic sauce with different flavor options. How about a sauce recipe book? That would be awesome! Thanks for these great videos. I really enjoy watching the two of you ☺️
Super helpful video . Thank you Derik
Great video! I’m pretty much like you, I don’t cook with oil and try to avoid it as much as possible but occasionally it will be in something pre-made I buy or if I’m out to eat, which is rare. Then I try to keep it at the bottom of the list of ingredients. You definitely notice the oily slicker after your taste buds adjust.
Ooh! Ooh! Buy the forks over knives cookbook and make yourself some "Chinese Brown Sauce".

Youre awesome man. I love this channel i cant say enough how important it has been for me
I'm on board with everything you're saying! You are well informed to let us know about the free radicals as well as the 0 nutrient density. Some people only mention one or two other. I just ordered a pressure cooker/air fryer combo, and dehydrator trays which I plan to use as airfrying trays too. There's a basket that comes with it but I want to see if the food crisps better on the trays. I want to convert standard recipes to vegan oil free recipes, with some of that texture, that my diabetic boyfriend can enjoy and hopefully reverse his diabetes by reducing his weight and insulin resistance. I learned from Dr Greger that saturated fat is a key factor in diabetes, it's not just the empty carbs! Thanks for the well presented and colorful video!
Same! I don’t use it at home but I’m not picky about it when I go out.
Thanks Derek another great video. Always giving you thumbs up.

Your a joy to watch and I'm inspired!!! 😁😊😊💕

I use cast iron to brown or sear (like tofu) and put the oil on the pan AFTER I use and clean it then wipe it out and heat the pan to evaporate any left overs. As a result the pan is non stick without any additional oil at the beginning. I am sure I am ingesting some of it but it is far less and I still get the caramelization.
Ive been using non stick oilve oil cooking spray which has the fat taken out lol
olive oil is best for salads only.

I made some oil free tofu nuggets that turned out very well. Just made a batter of nutritional yeast, curry powder, extra turmeric, smoked paprika, Himalayan salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Coated all the pieces and put them in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or so (depends on how crispy you want them) and had some really delicious tofu nuggets. Would go nicely with the fries in this video.
Great video. Oil is indeed offensive in food :) Haha, they are both sweet potatoes of different colors. Yams are a completely different plant :)
