The 119th chapter of psalms give the best examples of repentance in the entire Bible. It’s basically the Psalmists living by God statutes and then straying away from them and then God chastising the Psalmists and then the Psalmists coming back to live by the statutes of God…it’s a constant big circle of repentance. In all of the Bible verses that have the word repentance in them, the vast majority of them are the repentance of turning away from sin.

But you have to distinguish who they're talking to? Who is directed to if it's talking about salvation? We're talking about fellowship rebounding. Getting back into fellowship, that's the question repentance. For salvation, it's only a change of mind and your attitude towards Christ. Period that is the only thing that saves. And that is the only thing, a spiritually dead person. The unbeliever can do, and it doesn't involve works. It's nonmeritorious, and at that moment, turn off the Holy Spirit take. Mustard seed of faith.
It makes it effective for our salvation. Along with that and at the same time, 39 other things are the believers at that point period one of them. One of them we are placed by the Holy Spirit in Union with Christ. That is in Christ.
We are justified, we are sanctified. You become a child of God. We are born again. We have eternal life and many. Many more all at the same time before we did one thing in the Christian life. That's grace

@@djaconetta everything you have said I used to believe but when you really dig into it and study the whole Bible I mean really get into it that is definitely a foundation and I do agree with that but that's not all it is did you read Titus 2 he says he gives us a brand new heart once we are saved with this new heart we are able to walk in righteousness with Jesus Christ just like he wants us to that's why he tells you in many places in the first is to walk in righteousness how can we walk in righteousness with Christ if we are bound in sin by the devil! It's impossible! In order to be saved we need to have faith and our savior Jesus of course we know that now we need to show this faith so we show this Faith by our works because if we have the true faith for Jesus to save us we will have to work to show this this is not just in Paul it's all over in the New Testament I'm not sure why Christians choose not to believe this but it's a deception and this is why the Lord tells us faith without works is dead. If you have the faith you're going to have the works to show it if you don't have the faith you will not have the words to show it. So if you want I have scripture to show this I have scripture about repentance as well we need to walk in righteousness. You are preaching we can still walk in sin and be saved is this correct? We who know the Scriptures know it says that a true believer has turned from sin, and continues to turn from sin by confession to God and one another, turning away from it. Those who say otherwise contend with Scripture. Those who contend with Scripture are, by definition, heretics. Deal with them gently and lovingly, contending for their soul to come to repentance. Faith without repentance is not faith. Pray that the Lord calls those to repentance; if you have been called, we too must extend the same grace to all that we have been given. Forgive, or we will not be forgiven. Peace to the Church.

So when you are out there in the world please in your flesh what are you doing your flesh is the god before God worldly desires and sins come first, this is why he says to walk in tremble in fear and obey the Lord so you will not want to do the things of the flesh without obedience and fear, you're still going to walk in the flesh because the flesh is weak he's going to give us a new heart so we will be able to walk in righteousness with Jesus and we will not stay in bondage to sin!!!

This is the Gospel of Salvation that is being taught by many. however, these same preachers do not present a) a comprehensive list of all that is sins so that one can know that they've done #1, and b) for how long must they be perfectly sinless and then believe in Christ to enter the promise of salvation (a day, week, month, 3 years)? so, if this is your gospel then you must answer when would someone know they've satisfactorily repented of their sin to be considered SAVED?

True repentance is when you feel bad about what you did, you're genuinely sorry about what you did, you want to make things right with the people you wronged, and you want to try to not make the same mistakes again. When someone is only sorry that they got caught, it's not true repentance.
A lot of street preachers preach that when someone becomes saved, they stop sinning. When someone becomes a Christian, they still sin, still have sin weaknesses, still have sin struggles, still make mistakes in life, still aren't perfect, etc but they aren't slaves to sin, don't live lifestyles defined by sin, etc.
Preaching repentance is how you get saved isn't preaching that good works save someone. Good works don't save people. The reason why good works don't save people is because no one is good enough to earn heaven on their own. The reason why no one is good enough to earn heaven on their own is because all people are born being slaves to sin due to everyone descending from Adam and Eve. Even really good people who aren't Christians are still slaves to sin. People can't change from being a slave to sin to not being a slave to sin on their own. The only way someone can change from being a slave to sin to not being a slave to sin is by accepting Christ in their heart and meaning it in their heart, repenting and turning away from being a slave to sin, surrendering their life to Christ, putting their trust in Jesus, etc.

It did not suddenly change its meaning after thousands of years. If you have unrepented sin in your life, know that Christ says you will by no means enter into His kingdom. “NARROW is the gate.” That means to change your mind about it and continually turn away (doesn’t mean you won’t stumble, but you can stop). yes I wonder about this. My friend killed himself. Is this sin forgivable? or if you kill yourself does that mean you have given up on god? I pray my friend Doug Stansbury is not in hell. He was an amazing friend and a great kid to all that delt with him.

Jonah 3 10 states turning from sin is a work. Also a great example of god repenting. Oh yeah god repented 39x in the kjv old testament. Stop preaching lies. If you believe you can add anything to christs perfect attonement your not saved. Thats not the gospel.

Repentance is a change of mind.
Turning from sins are works. Jonah 3:10.
We repent and believe by changing our mind about how self righteous we are and believe God about what he says about our sin and what He says about the Son for salvation. That is the simplicity of trusting in Christ with repentance.

Jonah 3:9 does not say repentance is a work. 1 John 3:6 says that those who go on sinning do not know God. It is also said that those who say they walk in the light yet walk in darkness are liars and the truth is not in them. So that renders your argument null and void.

@@houstonevangelicalministries Jonah 3:10 says works. Not the English translation you're reading obviously. Look at the others and look at the Greek.
Walking in the light is trusting in Christ for salvation. It's not a reference to an accumulation of good works.
Not having the truth in you doesn't mean you're not justified before God. Believers sin too. It means you don't live the truth and identity that you have in Christ and it shows by your sin. That's what it means to be a liar and not having the truth in you. If you don't grow in sanctification then you have forgotten what Christ has done for you. Remember that verse?
Believing the way you do means you don't know if you've sinned too much to not be saved, also meaning you're at least trusting partially in you're own righteousness.
How do you know if you've sinned too much to prove you were never saved?

@houstonevangelicalministries repent translate to the greek word 'Metanoia', which means to change one's mind. It does not mean stop sinning or change your mind about sinning. Just simply change your mind.
So, in the context of the verses you sent, Matthew 4:17 would simply mean change your mind for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And Mark 1:15 would mean change your mind ye, and believe the gospel.
To my current understanding to repent is to put behind everything you thought could save you, such as your own righteousness or false religion, and believe in christ to be your only saviour.
Ephesians 2:7-8 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.

I have to wonder when "christians" get upset and argumentative about turning from sin. Repentance...
Why do "christians" defend continued sin. Why doesn't sin make you sick and miserable? Knowing it is what sent Our Lord to the cross. As Christians, we all need to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith.

    • @elunico13
      @elunico13 6 месяцев назад

@@dianemorris3536 Sin does make Christians miserable. The problem is the requirement to turn from sin in order to be saved or prove you are saved. The purpose of a Christian's life is not "stop sinning" or else. You're confused about sanctification. Remember God doesn't morph your body into a perfectly sinless being, He declares you perfectly righteous because Jesus is and died on a believer's behalf. Christians will be perfectly sinless at the final resurrection. Albeit, turning from sin is important, but has nothing to do with our justification.
The verse you quoted is 2 Cor 13:5. That is not a Christian taking inventory of their sins to see if they're in the faith. That has always been wrong. You gotta read the reason Paul says that by reading what he has been talking about. That verse is used a lot to promote a false gospel. Paul was concerned about them not believing the gospel he preached, because he wasn't a great speaker.

I guess God must be a sinner then because God himself repented and was sick of repenting. Todd you are preaching works for salvation by telling people to reform or stop doing x y z first in order to be saved. Thats keeping the law for salvation. Here is scripture to support (1 John 3:4 KJV) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Sin is transgression of the law, so what todd is saying is keep the law to be saved.
