It was great to see you all out there the other day (we were taking photos)! That was quiet a tack into the starboard parade! If I can make a constructive comment, it's sometimes helpful to announce to the crew ahead of time the plan, like "After we cross the stern of this boat, we'll go into our tack. Go ahead and get into positions."

I appreciate the feedback! To be honest, I was struggling myself to figure out if we should tack below or duck and tack above until the very last minute... so I can only wish I had had the foresight to articulate a clear plan to the crew. The end result was this messy combination duck/tack that clearly was not very fast, but that's my fault, not the crew's!

It's difficult to make the right decision when you cannot see everything going on around you, the video is proof of that, personally I would have tried to get above 'Current Affair' before increasing sail area.

Wasn't that the worst possible place to tack behind the leading boat?

Besides the fact that we got on the layline and no one fell off the boat, I can’t say anything good about this tack 😅

Haha, honest answer there! I would have tacked a little later….

And it was a bad tack in it self

Thanks- it’s hard not to compare to the tack #3 makes in front of us at 1:20. They come in to the layline in about the same position as we were but lose about half the distance to the leading boat in the tack. Our crew did well enough getting the genoa and everything across but I think I really killed our speed at the helm with such a sharp turn down then up. Makes for an exciting thumbnail image though that people want to click- now over 10k people have seen this bad tack!
