This tutorial will show you how to make a Soothing Salve featuring Zinc Powder and Camphor.
What You'll Need:
2 oz Shea Butter
2 oz Jojoba Oil
1/2 oz Beeswax
1/2 oz Zinc Powder
24 drops of Camphor EO
I made my first batch of this cream 5 days ago to help with topical steroid withdrawal and it is amazing. It helps heal my skin very quickly. I love zinc oxide for its healing power. I'm not the greatest with essential oil so I halved the amount but what an amazing cream . Thank you so so much
You are so very welcome - I'm so happy to hear that!
I'm in my second month of TSW and I'm glad to hear this has helped. I hope you are healing well!
Hello sweetheart, it is always safer to cover mouth and nose to prevent inhaling zinc oxide, it's not good for health to inhale. Thank you for your amazing recipe.🇬🇧
Hello! It’s non-nano, so not as unsafe as nano :) but thank you so much for including that important advice!!
This recipe looks wonderful. You nailed it you really explained everything.👍
Thank you so much! I'm really glad it was helpful :)
Very easy to understand great video xoxo
It would be wise to pour your mixture into tins when it is still warm, rather than waiting fo it to see up and become firm. Much easier to pot it up this way.
Can't wait to try this. Love all your products.
Which oil you have used?
Is it important to mix the bees wax into the cream b4 it is melted? Would it work to melt the beeswax separately and then add it slowly to the other mixture?
Hey there, we haven't tested adding the beeswax last, so I'm not sure how it would affect the final texture. But it seems like it could work, definitely let us know if you test it out this way!
Can this be used as a SPF face cream?
Always use zinc oxide to add more significant SPF face cream. It's such a great ingredient!
What percentages did you use for the ingredients? Thanks for sharing this great video
Hi! We have the ingredient amounts in the video ♥️♥️
Can I use my zinc capsules? I have some
You sure can.
can you substitute something for the jojoba oil
Yes, you can use almond or apricot oil.
Coconut oil seems the best for healing salve
Is it possible to use other oils like virgin rapeseed oil, oliv oil? thanks in anticipation, x
Yes, absolutely! You can substitute any liquid carrier oil.
I wouldn't use Olive Oil - it can cause skin that's already in crisis to fall apart quicker. I've experienced it myself and it was quite shocking. Check out pubmed site for the study done on Olive Oil. If you substitute oils you change a formulation. If you have to, I would stick with almond oil, unless there's an allergy. Hope this helps.
How long can this cream stay, how can it be preserved?
Con you substitute the beeswax or just skip it?
You can omit the beeswax.
Use carnauba wax maybe ? I think it's called? Try looking it up ima bout to fall asleep 😂😂😂 the carauba wax is the vegan alternative to beeswax I think . Supposed to smell good too!
😴😪😴✨🌏✨
If you are not vegan then beeswax is very beneficial to skin ! 😊 etsy would be a good place to buy from bee keepers!
Can this be made with Mango Butter?
Yes!
Can I re-place zinc oxide For kaolin Clay 🙂🙂
Yes!
Can this be used as a night cream and day cream? Basically never rinses it off?
We haven't tested the soothing salve as a face cream, but beeswax and zinc oxide definitely have staying power in cream and balm formulas
Your face will feel super oily
if i dont want camphor or beeswax can i just use the shea, the oil and the zinc with the same ratio
You definitely can! I haven't tried omitting the wax in this recipe, but it will most likely have a texture more like a cream than a salve
So how do you use this as a 10min mask and wash it off or a face cream?
This is a face cream.
What percentage of zinc is this formula
We just work in amounts, not really percentages. Hard to calculate
Mine came out really thick and dry. What can I do to correct this? Add more oil or butter, both?
Hello @sunpie31, try adding a bit more carrier oil
Is it good to add zinc oxide when the mixture is hot
It’s best when it’s warm but not hot
hello ma'am how much spf ???? this cream
It's nearly impossible to determine without lab equipment, but there are some spf calculators online that are great!!
Is the ingredients done by weight or volume.
What is the percentages?
Weight for solids, volume for liquids ❤️ Ingredients are in the video, you can multiply amounts for larger recipes!
@@BetterSheaButter oh ok thank you, I normally work with weight or percentages. I don't work with volume as each ingredient has different densities. ☺️
@Better Shea Butter What about the zinc - I'm assuming that is by weight as well? Seems that I'm not the only one who was confused. Perhaps this should be cleared up in the recipe/description box? Thank you, I was looking for a simple zinc salve, and was hoping you'd have a recipe. Tfs.
Can this be used on babies for diaper rash?
A lot of people do use zinc oxide mixtures for diaper rash - it's a fantastic ingredient to help with diaper rash :)
Just skip the camphor, not suitable for children... let alone, babies.
I assume for babies you'd have to leave the Camphor essential oil out - or just some lavender or chamomile instead? Thanks.
I really love your recipes 😍
I can add the zinc oxide powder after it cools down or when it is hot?
After it cools down, while you’re whipping :)
@@BetterSheaButter great video. Does it leave a white cast after it has completely cooled down and hardened ?
@@ccagle449 hi! What do you mean about a white cast?
@@BetterSheaButter making skin look white like mineral sunscreens do especially on brown skin. Or like sudocreme does.
@@BetterSheaButter in the video you out the Zinc in the warm oils then refrigerated. So do you put the zinc in then or after it’s set and you are whipping? Thankyou!
Can this be used on the face
Absolutely!
I don’t think camphour essential oils is good for sensitive rashy skin
Actually it’s great for that!
You won't believe it but it is really soothing as it is a mast cell stabilizer
Pls what if am making whitening lotion when and how will i I cooperate zinc oxide in the lotion
why put zinc oxide in soothing cream? it's used for SPF protection...
Yes, but zinc oxide is also used as an active ingredient in diaper rash creams and other similar products. It soothes irritated skin.
