BIG Gold Coast Snapper IN CLOSE on lures and bait (+Mackerel)

- OH MY GOODNESS! What a session on the Gold Coast, fishing the close in reefs just outside the Seaway early morning for big Snapper and some mackerel.
Usually in my videos you see us heading wide to the 36 fathoms, or down to palm beach reef and gravel patch chasing mackerel, however due to weather we stuck around the close in reefs to fish for Snapper, Cobia and Jewfish (Mulloway).
Floating down dead baits and Zman soft plastics worked a treat, and we landed a great feed of fish.

My mate used to catch great whites and tiger sharks about that far out as well. You will be amazed how close to shore most species are even the predators.

Yes we don't usually fish in close so it was definitely an eye opener for us, we will be trying there again for sure! You'd definitely be able to get out and get some on your jetski mate, and the Mackerel in Summer too!

Phil, jet ski fishing is the bomb, so much fun. Lots of accessible snapper spots I fish all the time out of Tweed. I get out every weekend I possibly can.

Yes the Snapper are definitely coming on the chew mate, hopefully it is a very good season for them, last year wasn't too great for Dad and myself with the weather being terrible everytime we had a free weekend.

where was the boat ramp at the end of the vid with the fish cleaning station? great vid man
Thanks so much for the comment mate! That boat ramp is actually in Loders Creek, but the problem is the cleaning table and ramp are in the caravan park there, so we just use it when we’re camping there. There is another public boat ramp in Loders Creek on the opposite side, which is nice and protected especially in Northerlies.
It’s a great cleaning table facility (in the caravan park), the public/council boat ramps need them too I reckon!

Thanks Justin always good to hear from you mate 😁 this is the Loders Creek boat ramp, however we filleted the fish on the caravan park side as it has a better cleaning table 😂 we actually put in at the public one across the other side of the creek near the bridge.

G'day Mark! This was actually inside the 24's mate, right in close ! It would be similar to fishing Murphy's at the sunshine coast.
We use the ramp at Loders Creek as it is nice and protected from the wind and close to the Seaway. Also close to where we come off the highway at Southport. We are using the cleaning table on the opposite side of the creek to where we launch the boat though as the facilities are much better.
Definitely get out and have a crack mate I'm keen to come up and fish the sunshine coast too at some stage!

What boat ramp is that?
G'day mate this is Loders Creek, on the caravan park side. We launch on the other side near the bridge, but this cleaning table is a bit better. 👍
Will what rod is that on the tld20 a old live fibre? ?
G'day mate!! It's actually a Pflueger 'Torsion' 6-10kg, it's an absolute cracker of a rod! Has caught everything from big Mackerel, to big snapper and reefies 👌 I got it from Doug Burt's TackleWorld years ago.
I'd say it's similar to a Wilson live fibre from what I have seen and read about them 👍 cheers mate

G'day Phil, I use 20lb braid and a 20lb leader tied together by a double uni knot. Then I just have a couple of metres of leader and thread a ball sinker on, and snell two 4/0 hooks together at the bottom. The ball sinker sits staight on top of the hooks. I will link an old video that I made below, showing how I tie it.

Hahaha I can’t give the marks away that easy sadly mate! 😉👍 this was in 30-35 metres of water though, a small bommie with reef/gravel around the edges. Good luck and tight lines 🙌
