You both hit some of my top reasons. Another one for me is the deserve to get away from the consumerism. Having a lot or expensive stuff isn’t something I value, but it’s difficult to escape the programming in the US that tells us it’s the measure of success.

I can tell you as an American expat who's lived in Dubai for many years, in these times, give Europeans an opportunity to move to the US, very few would. Give Americans an opportunity to move to Europe, many will take it, especially those who have visited Europe a few times.
As you get past middle age you realize life is too short to live in a society that continues to become more and more dysfunctional on the broad scale.

    • @fordwayne3833
      @fordwayne3833 Год назад

@@gk505 Dysfunctional in the sense of daily mass shootings, 9 times higher crime rate than the 2nd highest country, England. Highest drug abuse rate, highest suicide rate, highest broken families rate, highest prisoner rate, highest job instability rate, highest medical expenses compared to salaries, highest average personal debt rates, highest bancruptcy rates, lowest intellectual curiosity rate, lowest international awareness rate. America will always be great for some people, but the rate of people that fall through the cracks keeps increasing. I love America, but the best America is the one I hold inside me.

Great video guys! So fun to see that your reasons for moving are totally different and yet you're doing it and loving it together. Very cool that you get to explore all these different places (Iceland cruise?!?!) all from a European hub. USA is SO huge and takes days to drive across, we can go for hours and hours and everything, the culture, the restaurants, the language, are all the same. In the same time in Europe, we could go through multiple different countries!!

Josh, I have lived in Los Angeles for a long time and I'm a very experienced driver. I don't worry about accidents ever at all. That being said- I am OVER IT.
Long term, the the costs and ongoing expenses of buying, owning, maintaining and insuring a car in the US are punitive. Choosing a car free life like you have is a smart thing to do, and you aren't missing out on anything :)

Another great video. Thanks K&J. 🙏🏻
    1) I’d say Safety and Car-Free Living are big reasons for us as well.😊
    2) Quality of Living is far better in Europe having lived in Italy and Switzerland. While you certainly can achieve that here in the SF Bay Area (are we fortunate?) it comes at a very high cost. So maybe Cost-of-Living might be a better descriptor-not sure.
    3) Culture and Travel. Low-cost travel to historic and beautiful places is a big plus.
    4) Biggest reason not mentioned is Healthcare (availability and cost). We’re older than you guys so possibly more on our radar. Life Expectancy has plummeted here in US and gap with many European countries has only increased. Not good.
    Cheers. 👋🏻

I think y'all hit all our points on this one.
    1. Safety: There was recently a mass shooting nearby and it really made us stop and assess just how bad that is in the US vs other countries
    2. QoL: On a recent trip to Lisbon, we just marveled at the city's quality. The ease of movement, the great food, the general beauty of it. Compare that to NYC which we just got home from and all you get, in my opinion, is a beautiful city.
    3. Car-free: I'm a huge fan of living car-free or at least car-reduced. I agree that the maintenance and the hassle of the car don't seem all that worth it in the end.

The Ukraine war and other issues made us put it on the back burner for a year or two. Currently living in Mendoza, Argentina for the second time in 10 years, and loving it. Excellent wine for $4 a bottle. Filet mignon is $5 for a Kilo (1/12 the price of the US). 70 and sunny in autumn. $70,000 USD buys a new modern home outright.

Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.

From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

The work life balance is HUGE and the government in Portugal (and most of Europe) is the reason. In the last month we have learned many reasons why lol. Overtime is legally capped at 200 hours/year (and that is broken down to 2 hours/day a certain amt per week etc) or the company can be fined. Mandatory down time each day of 11 hours, mandatory 1-2 hour lunches (and a lot of companies provide a debit card that only works at restaurants/cafes or grocery stores w a monthly set balance) and mandatory days off/week, also the starting mandatory vacation time is the same as what it has taken my husband 7 years working at a company to earn in the US. Oh and salary pay doesn't seem to be a thing either. No wage theft from working overtime unpaid like the US is well known to do. Overtime ranges from 150-200% pay based on the day/time/holiday the work occurs in.
I will say on via catarina in Porto I was the "victim" of the only pick pocket event I've had. I wear a small backpack usually and it was opened by someone there lol all that I carry in that bag are my reusable cloth bags and a small first aid kit lol. No valuables at all ;) so they didn't get anything from me.

From Boston to Iceland a flight is fewer than 5 hrs. We’ve made it our hub for the rest of Europe which comes with the perk of allowing a layover either way. Now we live in Portugal and we’re waiting for our SEF appointment next month and then wait six months to move about 😮.

All your points hit with my reasons. Safety is relative. I'm thinking of retiring in Portugal. One reason is Safety. However, Portugal isnt crime free it seems to be rising because of the wage gap and their rise of cost of living there. But my main reason to move abroad is to be able to "live", not just survive. As I'm watching this video I'm once again trying to figure out how I am going to stretch this pay check. Also definitely tired of the racism, government assault against women with all these laws and gun violence. Depending on the next election, its only going to get worse in the U.A. The other reason is to be close to all the places I want to travel to. Hopefully my move will happen sooner, than later.

And one can save even more money flying with Transvia (Air France KLM low cost), buying the passage one week in advance over the internet. Four times cheaper than in a travel agency.
