  • The Butchery Innovation and Revitalization Fund is administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The Butchery Innovation Bill was created in 2021 as a bill (HF 857) sponsored by Rep. Chad Ingels in the Iowa House of Representatives. The fund provides financial assistance in the form of grants to businesses for projects relating to small-scale meat processing, licensed custom lockers and mobile slaughter units. This legislative action and appropriation is a huge success towards localizing our food system and supporting small-town economic development through food processing.
For Fiscal Year 2024, the State of Iowa appropriated $1,000,000 to IEDA with direction to administer these funds for continuation of the program. Grants will be funded up to $100,000 for each business.
This video stars West Liberty Locker owner Suzette Vance, who received a grant from the Butchery Innovation Program to greatly expand the operations of their locker.
