As a Zenyatta fanatic I must admit after watching this compilation of races that a winner between the two would be impossible to pick. I.m lucky enough to have lived long enough to see true majesty exhibited by this duo. Thanks for the upload even though the music was a distraction for me - kudos for your work.

it seems like everyone forgot about Ruffian who didn't really have the chance to run again since she broke her leg. She was crowned the Queen before these horses. :) But Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra are amazing too :D
Oooh yess I totally agree, and I think Rachel runs like ruffian, the fact that she was wayyy out of her league, watching her run thats just amazing. But I think all three were fantastic horses and I think they should be one of the greatest.
I believe that ppl just do not like thinking about that tragidy! I tear up at the very site of Ruffian's name. She is really right up there w Z and RA. Never had the opportunity to show this to the world, since she'd proven it to us already. Poor baby girl. We love you, always...our darling girl.
Rachel that is beyond amazing, look at how far she is, the fact she manages to stay infront the whole way and the end she just leaves them all behind, and she does it consistantly everytime, thats a special horse. These horses are good , normally goood racehorses and this one outruns thm all everytime that says something in itself. Same for ruffian and zenyatta they did it consistantly, that is somting special. ALthough Zenyattas was different she was still amaazing too. Zenyatta may not have won by a record but she was always dead last and made up very quickly time all the way to the front like it was nothing and not too many other horses do that unfailingly, she is a great horse as well.
Don't forget that Rachel somethimes also came from behind and gave the lead to another horse. The thing with her is that no matter where she was at in a race she could win.

Can't wait to see the boys of the Queens: Cozmic One, sired by Preakness Winner Bernardini out of Zenyatta, one of the outstandig fillies winning 19 of 20 starts and places 1. And his future rival Jess' s Dream sired by Preakness and Dubai World Cup winner Curlin and our Super filly Rachel Alexandra. The fillies never met in a match race but I think when their boys are going to race in the 2015 Kentucky Derby, after 37 years a new Triple Crown Champion enters our hearts and the biggest Rival of Sports history, the rival between Affirmed and Alydar return in the two colts. Hands up for Kentucky Derby 2015!
I have a feeling that Ruffian would be the greatest. What a shame her leg is broken at her best time. There is no point of saying which horse is the best at all times. If Secretariat, Ruffian, Rachel Alexandra, Frankel, Black Caviar, Sea Biscuit and the one only ZENYATTA race all together, they would go to finish line all same time and the time would freeze for forever. They are all amazing and the best. Darn, I almost forgot one of the best one Winx….

From the start of 2009 through the Woodward in 2009...she was the best filly ever. Her times, her margins of victories, her beating the best males of 2009 and beating them badly, finished off with her crazy suicide fractions in the Woodward, and STILL winning.... was second to NONE. Zenyatta vs that Alexandra....wouldn't have been close imo. I'm just a horse racing fan. I don't have "favorites". I'm a fan of the sport. Rachel at her best, was better than Zenyatta at her best.
It's unfortunate that RA never once raced against Zenyatta. Their contrasting racing styles would have made for a great race. Perhaps had the Woodward not taken so much out of Rachel it might have happened before the Classic. At four, Rachel was not quite the same so, once again, the race never took place.
They could have entered her. She very well could have won. Three fillies have won the Belmont, and three have won the Derby. But the FACT is that she was better off not doing it. Especially the Belmont, which is a brutal race. And sometimes when the girls run with the boys, bad things happen. Think Ruffian and Eight Belles. The girls try so hard. It's a question if you're willing to risk the filly's life. As it is, she was magnificent but her star faded, she lost the drive, now she will make her owners milions by being a broodmare.
Yes, it IS more dangerous for fillies and they are less likely to win as they don't have the strength of the colts. The world of horse racing KNOWS this through tremendous experience. every now and then there is an extraordinary filly, and they quite often DO let them run with the boys. But for the greater bulk of horse racing, the colts/stallions and fillies/mares run segregated races. KInd of like men's and womens sports. And you are right, far too many horses, of both gender, die on the track. :-(

There is a simple but undeniable answer, and the Zenyatta fans won't like it. Zenyatta's connections limited her competition by limiting her travel. Besides traveling to Oaklawn and the BC classic, she stuck to California. Great horses generally travel to the best races to race against the best. Zenyatta did not. She ran too many times in local races; races limited to her own gender in small, less than stellar fields.

I rank Zenyatta the best of the American fillies/mares. But she had ZERO tactical speed. Match races are won from the front end. That is why Tom Smith trained speed into Seabiscuit for his match race against War Admiral; why LeRoy Jolley trained speed into Foolish Pleasure for his match race against Ruffian. A horse is not going to win a match race coming from far behind, which was the only way Zenyatta could run. In a match race against any really good horse with early speed and who could set their own pace unpressed, Zenyatta would have not have caught up.
I have a strong feeling that Calvin Borel would of looked back in a race facing Zenyatta like oh shit I’m about to get beat!! I feel that her connections dodged Zenyatta.
You have this wrong. If anything, it was the other way around. Rachel travelled to find the best competition. With only a couple exceptions, Zenyatta ran overwhelmingly in CA against her own gender and small uncompetitive fields at that.

Please tell me what new track record (not stakes or lengths beaten) was established by Rachel Alexandra. Also, Zenyatta set a new track record in the 2008 Clement Hirsch.
@@Bigshotism Well, RA very well could have broken Secretariat’s track record at Belmont at 1 1/8 had she not been geared down halfway down the stretch in the Mother Goose. She literally cantered under the wire. She also almost broke the track record in the Haskell in the slop. Had Calvin not held her all the way down the stretch in the KY Oaks, she probably could have challenged the track record there too.
Rachel is the modern day queen of thoroughbred racing!!!

Maybe if Zenyatta wasn’t basically campaigned in SoCal, and actually traveled, we would of seen that matchup
