  • In today's video, I'm fighting the clock and the weather... More rain is on the way and I've got 2 orders for smoking wood to fill. The first is some Hickory bundles, and the second is some Maple and Oak. Come along to see if we can beat the rain, and welcome a new pet as well.

That’s some good looking well seasoned wood. The dark cracked ends is what I like to see. Wood is pretty cheap here in Louisiana. But you have to know what your looking at they will try to sell you Green wood here. Great video.

Great vid. We all enjoyed last night, was a lot of fun. The people who buy smoker/cooking wood are great connections to have. I supply 2 restaurants in my area with hickory, cherry and maple and it’s almost always on a clockwork schedule since I started with them. Loved the furry pop in guest. Keep up the good work👍

Hi Brad, great seeing you on your live stream last night with Scheib. I think the UK is between 4-6 hrs ahead of you, so made it a late night, but worth it. It’s been great seeing your wood business grow and your wood yard is by far the most organised. I think I’ve seen most of your posts now.

Did much the same using much the same bundle-frame today - except I was strap-banding the bundles.. That's a Bad Idea btw - it's slow, feckity, too dicky & isn't fast. I ordered shrinkwrap.. be better.. Don't strap-band bundles. What I lurnt today. :-)
I also broke the "new" super-fast diesel splitter I built - broke it good too - but I broke it after splitting 60 bundles worth in less than 60 minutes - so breaking it was ok - it's one of them "keep breaking it till it can't be broken any more" machines - it works lightning fast - so the weak links are down to me to improve - tomorrow I'll patiently rebuild the bit I broke so it can't break again - it'll still be faster than anything I could go out & buy, so beefing stuff up is just fine by me.
I'm with you on the shrinkwrap though - shrinkwrap is the way to go. Doggies a dote - they're great companions. .

I reserve all of the high quality sugar maple I get for grilling. I agree with your guy- it burns great! Also produces a LOT of heat, and very nice smelling smoke. Still waiting on my hickory to finish- I got a mess of the pignut variety green/fresh cut last fall. I split a couple pieces last weekend, and they tested high 20%s, so were making progress! I had few small chunks that I put in my best drying spot, and burned them- they give off a sweet, almost fruity smelling smoke- not what I was expecting. esp from something that stinks like sour mulch when it's green ,lol. I'm betting it'll make some great tasting pork or beef, when it' ready.
I'm also partial to the Ash/Cherry combo for grilling. (or Apple) The Ash makes better, longer lasting coals, with the cherry or apple providing flavor. Ash itself smells pretty nice, so it mixes well with the others.
The soft maple and the not as good sugar maple go on afterwards- for the eating and drinking beer by fire!

I will never be able to sell by the piece, my mind wanders too much to count that far lol. I would make it to about piece 8 or 9 and then have no idea how many were on the trailer. Doing firewood is good thinking time for me.

Enjoyed the livestream last night hope everyone felt good fri. morning, just wondering how you price your wood when you sell by the hundred and the fifty piece order, im in ohio and there is a law ,a lot of people dont know it or dont seem to care but you have to price wood on a cord or partial cord, no rick, truckload or pile, because i have seen a rick that cut into 12 in. Pieces so ohio wants a uniform amount being sold, i know some states you can sell a face cord (16) inch by 4x8 not alowed, or not legal in ohio because of what some say a face cord is copared to what a 1/3 cord is ,i was just wondering how the market was in your state , keep up the good work, enjoy.

Hi Larry, so he actually ordered it in bundles but told me he did not want it wrapped. I know that my bundles are typically 10-12 pieces so I just multiplied his bundle order by that and took some money off for the time and materials of wrapping.

    • @FirewoodattheFurnace

My plan is to do this like I’m doing until I’m 50 which is 6 years. Then my wife and I want to travel the country as both kids will be out of school and in college. I will still do some wood but probably not on the level I am now. I’m sure I’ll start another channel once we begin our traveling adventures.
