Never just swim over to a drowning person if they are still concious! They will try to grab you in panic and drag you down with them! If they are still concious and in panic, hand them a float, or give them something like a rope they can grab and drag them out. Do remember though to call an ambulance, specially if they are not shivering.

I was caught in a rip it off south coast of Australia when I was a kid within less then a minute we were sucked so far out the swimming back was impossible, we eventually were able to swim under the current as the water got deeper, however we were extremely lucky that boat was able to pick us up, if I known what I know now or saw this video this may have been less dramatic (over 10 years later I still struggle to enter the water), my point is this video is extremely helpfull and coming from someone who has experienced one of these I just wanna say thank you no one should died, from anything, and if just one person remembers this video when in one of these instances then u deserve a medal. Aren't these common sense? When I was little and still lived in Russia, in first to second grades we had a class named основы безопасности жизнедеятельности(Basis of life safety). And basically we learned everything in this video plus also things like stranger danger and what do if you are kidnapped, and all kinds of survival techniques for random life situations. Also for tip #1:you can't heat your body up too fast. Best thing to do if you have been in extreme cold is stand under a freezing shower and gradually raise the temperature to cold, then room temp, then warm, then hot. Getting to a dry and hot/warm place immediately after extreme cold can actually do (and probably will do) more damage than good.
That's great, all school should have that! It's so important, as it could not only save your life, but also get you out of a very tricky situation or tight spot. You're right about the temperature thing too - if you go from hot to cold or vice versa very quickly I think your body goes into shock, it should be done gradually like you said. I think all schools should teach survival skills (especially about strangers, etc) and teach kids how to grow and prepare food - essential survival skills every human should know. I'm going to try and learn more stuff like this as you never know when you might need some handy tips and tricks like this. He meant as the impact happens the elevator will stop and it will move slightly upward due to inertia being heavy on it, humans don't have a lot of inertia and will rather fly to the top of the elevator and break like that. If you are in a falling elevator listen to the video and if it is a small elevator push against the sides with your joint facing upward so you bend them normally and reduce it, do not push too hard or with the joints facing down or you will fracture them upon impact, however don't push too lightly otherwise you will be the one with the ceiling, and then the floor.

Actually 1. there is a tool that you can buy that was made for breaking out of car windows 2. if you cant break the window or roll it down, what you need to do is control your breathing and let the car get completely submerged (sounds pretty dumb? its not) then open the door. the water filling up your car will even the pressure and will let you open it

Logically the safest place in a falling elevator is on the floor, the impact won't be as hard, and you'll have a lower chance of breaking anything from hitting the floor of the elevator
You're actually supposed to take your clothes OFF in cold water during the winter if you fall through ice. The clothes will get cold and will NOT keep the heat in. When you pull yourself out you'd be in cold wet clothes. But if they're off, that's not a problem. But if you're really having a hard time staying afloat, relax and let yourself float by lying on your back

I was caught in a rip it off south coast of Australia when I was a kid within less then a minute we were sucked so far out the swimming back was impossible, we eventually were able to swim under the current as the water got deeper, however we were extremely lucky that boat was able to pick us up, if I known what I know now or saw this video this may have been less dramatic (over 10 years later I still struggle to enter the water), my point is this video is extremely helpfull and coming from someone who has experienced one of these I just wanna say thank you no one should died, from anything, and if just one person remembers this video when in one of these instances then u deserve a medal.

Aren't these common sense? When I was little and still lived in Russia, in first to second grades we had a class named основы безопасности жизнедеятельности(Basis of life safety). And basically we learned everything in this video plus also things like stranger danger and what do if you are kidnapped, and all kinds of survival techniques for random life situations. Also for tip #1:you can't heat your body up too fast. Best thing to do if you have been in extreme cold is stand under a freezing shower and gradually raise the temperature to cold, then room temp, then warm, then hot. Getting to a dry and hot/warm place immediately after extreme cold can actually do (and probably will do) more damage than good.
We don't do that in other countries I'm afraid.

That's great, all school should have that! It's so important, as it could not only save your life, but also get you out of a very tricky situation or tight spot. You're right about the temperature thing too - if you go from hot to cold or vice versa very quickly I think your body goes into shock, it should be done gradually like you said. I think all schools should teach survival skills (especially about strangers, etc) and teach kids how to grow and prepare food - essential survival skills every human should know. I'm going to try and learn more stuff like this as you never know when you might need some handy tips and tricks like this. Thanks for sharing and telling us about your school and hopefully more schools do the same :-)

You don't go up, both you and the elevator are falling at the same rate.
Siveon Farcloud he does have a point tho if you disrupt your speed by even a fraction you will hit the roof of the elevator because if your body is moving fast enough but sense gravity is faster than you it allows your body to be weightless so even one mile of speed gets taken away from your body's speed you'll smack the roof of the elevator but won't hit it with enough force to burst apart
He meant as the impact happens the elevator will stop and it will move slightly upward due to inertia being heavy on it, humans don't have a lot of inertia and will rather fly to the top of the elevator and break like that. If you are in a falling elevator listen to the video and if it is a small elevator push against the sides with your joint facing upward so you bend them normally and reduce it, do not push too hard or with the joints facing down or you will fracture them upon impact, however don't push too lightly otherwise you will be the one with the ceiling, and then the floor.

Actually 1. there is a tool that you can buy that was made for breaking out of car windows 2. if you cant break the window or roll it down, what you need to do is control your breathing and let the car get completely submerged (sounds pretty dumb? its not) then open the door. the water filling up your car will even the pressure and will let you open it

The elevator tip is nice, but it depends in which section of the elevator floor you will lay down. Almost every elevator shaft has a dumper at the botton in the lowest stage and is pointing upwards like a lance. It will penetrate the floor of the elevator like it's made of paper....and it will penetrate your body as well.

Logically the safest place in a falling elevator is on the floor, the impact won't be as hard, and you'll have a lower chance of breaking anything from hitting the floor of the elevator

You're actually supposed to take your clothes OFF in cold water during the winter if you fall through ice. The clothes will get cold and will NOT keep the heat in. When you pull yourself out you'd be in cold wet clothes. But if they're off, that's not a problem. But if you're really having a hard time staying afloat, relax and let yourself float by lying on your back

The reason the have that is because if you just assume they are choking then you can do serious damage to their organs.
Actually when your car is sinking you can take the head rest out, shove it in one of the lower corners of the window and push it down. The pressure will be enough to break the window and it is safer than breaking it with your hands.
