YESSSSSSS!!!! This is such a lost and forgotten musical but it is just such a gem! And Leslie Uggams is just one of the brightest stars there ever was! One of the original African American Broadway Stars!

1967 - My most memorable experience at a Broadway theatre! Sitting about 10 rows from the stage, this beautiful woman came out and sang this song. It has bee my life's theme song. Thank you Leslie Uggams!!

Believe me, I loved her too. You didn't have to be black to recognize beauty and talent. I'm a white girl, now 67 years old. I'm still so happy to follow her career and pray for her health and happiness. She's still killin' it out there. Hallelujah!🥰🙏🌹

Wonderful! Amazing! She had it then and she has it now. I'm seeing her in a production of GYPSY next week in Connecticut. Imagine her as Mama Rose. I can't wait!

This is wonderful -- seeing Leslie singing this, even though it is an abbreviated version of "Being Good." She is absolutely terrific. Just found out this Ed Sullivan Show appearance and the "Hallelujah" musical was at least 3 years after Leslie's regular appearances on the "Sing Along With Mitch" TV show, which ran on television from 1961 until the network canceled it in 1964, a victim of changing musical tastes.

Saw this in 1967 at the Martin Beck Theatre in NYC. At the time Robert Hooks was off the show filming NYPD and in his place was Billy Dee Williams. MANY wonderful songs (Being Good).

Hot! Tight! Fantastic! Three brilliant performers, exiting choreography, and two great songs by Styne, Comden, and Green! Clips like this make you wonder how the show ever closed.

MY GOODNESS! Energetic! Marvelous! Exuberant! Performing artists back then were on A-WHOLE-NOTHA level with their talent and stage presence. I noticed the stage dressing and onstage efx (lighting design, pyrotechnics, etc.) for live tv performances were minimal during those times, most likely due to budget and technology constraints. Still, entertainers didn't need to rely on bells and whistles to put on a helluva show (no shade towards today's entertainers)! One last thing, the costumers and hair/make-up artists deserve raises and recognition b/c Ms.Uggams looked absolutely stunning🤩 The spectacular male dancers looked pretty damn spiffy too.

It is a rare woman who can wear the Vidal Sassoon influenced 'five point' cut from the mid-60s and never have it date (it may look 'period' or 'historic' but it doesn't look 'dated' in the sense that, though the veil of time, it objectively appears in dubious taste) - and Ms. Uggams was/is such a woman - as was Paul Kelley - both of whom give the cut the incandescence of immortality. Ah! - now THERE's a two-woman show that SHOULD have been - and it is our great misfortune that social and cultural conditions are such that we were never able to see it. If you are not familiar with the divine Ms. K, she can be seen in a variety of documents on YouTub, most notably Bob Fosse's 1967 film of 'Sweet Charity' and Robert Wise's 1971 'The Andromeda Strain. She also appears in a more stereotypical role in 1973's 'Soylent Green.'

Since Naya died, ive been watching glee quite a bit. Lea sings Being Good. I assumed Barbara did too since Lea loves her. Ended up finding the woman who originally gave this song life and wow. Cant help but cry because Leslie sang this so well im just left speechless.

They wanted Jerome Robbins to come in and work a miracle on the staging and dancing - and he said he would - but the didn't want to pay him what he deserved so they ended up with this. Its a dreadful song and it looks like really bad nightclub act.
