Perhaps this is controversial parenting. Why I make my kids eat everything I cook? Shouldn't they choose what they like and what they want? I want my kids to respect the food, my work as a mom and also teach them that we don't always get what we like. That includes food. I don't make separate meals I modify them as needs to but the main rule is that everything off their plate must be eaten. After they finish their meal they can have a snack if not then sorry but if you are not hungry then you don't have room for a snack.
