It would be interesting if interaction with these object eventually became more familiar to the machine. The slow calculating movements remind me of a baby attempting to do things, however a baby usually fails while the robot does not. Over time, I'm wondering if the machine will speed up from getting used to performing the same task so often? I wonder if an AI will ever reach a point that it learns from trial and error?

If you are against AIs, you should also be against having children.
Yes, making AI robots is dangerous so is making humans. Consider that people around you are organic robots with very fast CPUs running extremely complex codes, learning and reproducing, etc... For instance, a wrong `programmed` children can be a very dangerous person in the future, can be a serial killer, a dictator or a child molester.
You people are already `programming` `AIs` as you are parenting your children. And yes, it's a very dangerous task.

Americans did not invent the idea of evil killer robots like the Terminator. The word "robot" came from a Czech playwright, Karel Čapek. In his play, R.U.R., and in most early fictional depictions of robots, robots were the villains who mercilessly rebelled against their human masters. I think that is where most of the fear originates. I see robots as powerful tools. Their power to help or to destroy depends on how they are made and on who wields their power.

the point is that robots are getting smarter. though it's nthing new. I remember there was research with similar ideas somewhere in 1980's, except they had a virtual world instead of an actual robot. the machine could solve very complex tasks. that virtual world had virtual boxes, balls etc. and machine could learn and act on its own.

The idea of a self-aware, self-learning AI is very dangerous. Terminator, is quite possibly, the most popular example of why it's so dangerous. You could tell a robot never to harm a human, or perform an action that could potentially result in harming a human, but eventually, the learning process will erase that data and say "Screw humans, they're evil, kill them all". Of course, the chances of such things happening are slight, since this AI still requires an outside source (humans) to teach it.

@Psrimm superconductor tech cannot be shrunk down and the same rate as semiconductors. theres a reason why it took a small building in 85 and today in 2011, and in some cases larger. my point still stands the possibility of "AI" tech is decades away if not 100+ years away.
