This shoe is built for larger frames...not your frame, Kofuzi. The fact it feels "firm and not soft for you" means the cushioning is not spec'd for your lightweight foot strike. As a 180lb+ runner, I can tell you this nitrogen cushioning is the best I have ever worn. The amount of shock attenuation is just right for my heavyweight foot strike. I would encourage all runners heavy footed or heavy weighted to try this shoe (or the GTS version if you need stability). Thanks for the video!
Agreed!!! Love this shoe and I am 200 lbs 6’1” I run 4-6 miles everyday and am just more muscular and will never be a rail thin skinny marathon guy ; the foam on this just works great for me . Will probably get a 2nd pair!
@@pbnotj1 6’2 105 kgs size 13.5 these shoes were horrible. Glycerin 20 felt like a rock under foot, returned them in 2 days. Instant calf pain do not recommend for larger frames.
Same here 5’9 224lbs and love the glycerine 20 in wide!!! Feels soft for me but have a lot of weight compressing it. Hopefully this show will get me to a weight that won’t compress it so we’ll but their awesome for now.
After I got back into serious running 7-10 years ago, being slightly overweight, the glycerin was my go to. I loved it. Having lost a significant amount of weight and back into marathoning, this shoe series doesn’t work for me anymore. I think you are right Kofuzi. It is a great shoe for some people.
Love that you mentioned us heavier runners! I'm 5'8" 190lbs and don't always feel the same reaction out of shoes as the reviewers, who are typically lighter than myself.
I am 6ft and 190 and absolutely love this shoe. I have some pronation issues and these shoes are super stable. I have 2 pairs - one brand new and the other with 100 miles. The foam does soften up a little. I actually want (and need) a shoe that is a little on the firmer side, but not too firm. Ran 9 miles in them yesterday. Legs feel great.
5’9 224 lbs and love this show in wide. For me, it’s way better than new balance or any other company wide shoes do. Wore out the hoka mach 5 in less than 100 miles. These keep me on the road and enjoying the miles! Would highly recommend to anyone who struggles finding the right fit for us “sturdy” runners.
6”1’ 200 lb runner and this foam is tuned just perfectly for me ; I find I can pick up the pace not just plod along. Really like it. I have the regular upper version which I doubt is much different. I totally agree different weight runners may have very different experiences in same shoes. Also just had our first cold snap here and can say this midsole is firmer in cold weather so that may also have greater impact on your experience. In a treadmill environment warmer softer midsole can be appreciated. Who knows :-) thanks for the honest review!

Brooks is definitely made for larger runners and those looking for everyday walking shoes, as well as people with wider feet. I recently started work at Fleet Feet and had to try on all the models and as a 135lb person the majority felt so firm and dead to me. Enjoyed the Caldera and Hyperion Tempo though!
I just started seriously running at the beginning of the year. Had done some walking/jogging, but nothing serious. I had Brooks Ghost 13's. As I really started to focus and enjoy running, I moved into Saucony speeds and hoka Mach's. I am 6 foot 190 (started at 220) and I think I have a heavy running form. I wear through the machs quickly. I started getting achilles pain a couple months ago, so moved back to Brooks with a higher drop. Got a pair of Glycerin 20's and they have been fantastic for me. Ran a half marathon last week, set a personal best. Did this in raining 43 degree F weather. I am thinking about getting a second pair because right now, these are the only shoes I can run in where it doesn't flame up my achilles. I feel the nice cushion, so you may be right that it has to do with weight and running form.
When I'm looking at reviews for shoes I usually read both women and men - especially if the reviewers list height and weight. The Speed and Triumph 20 work well for me. I started with the Ride 14, and it just feels so harsh underfoot when I try to run in it now.

Full disclosure.. I'm a Brooks ambassador.. but these are my own thoughts. Compared to some other brands this definitely isn't super soft. For Brooks it is heading in the right direction. It is a bit softer than the previous versions.. but I think/hope this can go much further in future editions . But, this is one of my favourite brooks shoes, paired with the hyperion tempo for my speed work. I definitely agree with the comments that this is great for larger runners.. but I don't think that is the only demographic. The three standouts that I think makes this a fav of mine (and many others) is true of most brooks shoes.. durability. This lasts! The glycerin range goes for 1000km for me (I need to see if that is true also though with this new midsole .. but still loving it after 300km). Gets better with age. I think this is due to the outsole softening up.. but the more Kms you out into it the better it gets. This turns out into a great value shoe. And the final thing?.. you just forget about it (haha). It is a shoe I put on and enjoy the run.. for many brooks runners, they are looking for a shoe that means they can get out a couple of times a week in any conditions and keep fit. They want to run a half marathon or marathon with a single shoe to get that medal. That's where it shines. Oh gosh. That was rather long haha.
Thanks for this video Kofuzi. I enjoy all of your reviews and your channel. I think you are totally right on Glycerine 20 and how it might be a better fit for heavier runners. I am 5 ft 9 inch and 215 lbs, and the Glycerine 20 might be my favorite shoe ever. I have about 130 miles in it, and just ran my first half marathon (Monumental Indy Half) in this shoe, and it always feels amazing to me. I out 300 miles on the Glycerin 19, and in my opinion, the 20 is a substantial improvement. I have tried other shoes you and the BITR folks recommend, and as you said in the video, they don't work well for me. Thanks so much for this. Keep up the great work.
It is nice to see good comments here. I am lighter framed as well and find this very comfortable and squishy. It isnt like a superblast or invincible run, but I find it way better than the 1080or Supercomp.
I wish reviewers and manufacturers would discuss this more, regarding which shoes might be right for different people. I'm 5'9" ~ 130 lbs. and the Bondi 7 did not work for me because I felt like I couldn't compress the foam. For other shoes, like the Skechers GoRun Ride 10, I've thought that a heavier person would likely bottom out that forefoot very quickly. It's good to know where reviewers are coming from: weight; forefoot/midfoot/heel striker; narrow/wide/medium foot. It was great to hear you say that, although this shoe didn't work for you, here's who it might work for. As a self-described forefoot striker, I wonder how you get on with the high drops typical of Brooks shoes as well.
Thanks for the video Ko! As you noted in the video, not every shoe is meant for everyone! I'll have to catch you onthe live stream or look online about your thoughts on the hyperion elite and tempo
I had a similar issue with Brooks Caldera 6 with Loft v3. 6ft & 178lbs, the gigantic midsole of the Caldera 6 left me expecting Nike Invincible level of squish, which it just doesn’t have. However, after 100 miles, the Caldera sole provides a realistic level of protection without the dopey excessive squish of the Invincible.
Ya love to see it. Their Nitro infused foam is the best I’ve used. I had the Aurora BL, which was NOT durable and did not last very long. So it’s good to see that tech in more traditional Brooks models. Just wish they were all wider though, Altra is the only thing that fits really well and they seem to be a bit behind in the cushioning dept.
I had the Aurora for a while to test and it was a load of fun to run in. Somehow the G20 midsole doesn’t feel the same in a traditional configuration compared to the bulbous space-boot shape of that prototype, or maybe it’s just not exactly the same foam. I actually got better lockdown in the regular upper when I tried on the G20 than in the Stealthfit version which as someone mentioned here may work better on higher volume feet. As far as temperature, I have noticed that the midsoles of the Hyperion Tempo feels a little harsher in cold weather, but as my feet warm them up they soften. In fact I think that’s true of most midsole foams. Someone commented simply with “adidas Boost” so maybe that’s an exception. Or maybe the pebbly midsoles are less affected by temperature, which would include pebbly Pebax such as in the Saucony Speeds.
Your literally speaking on the exact same experience that I have with mines. I did 14 miles in and mines and it wasn't that great for the far of a distance. But when I use this shoe on the treadmill it worked much better for me and also great for walking
I saw this foam in store and was intrigued. It's so shiny and smooth. I think they were betting on that reaction from customers but maybe it doesn't perform as well as the dna loft v2
I’m 5’6 165# and found the same issue. It runs firm to me, and so does the adrenaline 23 compared to the 22. Both are great all day wear for work or walking, but not the first I’ll pull out from my closet for a run.
I love this shoe for my long runs. I run the stability version (Glycerin 20 StealthFit GTS). I'm heavier than Kofuzi (175 versus 143) and slower (10:30 or so on the easy runs I wear this for) and I find I can put a lot of miles in without discomfort.
As a 5'9 220 runner the foam on glycerin is heaven. It withstands the beating mt weigh put ok it without having me limp around in pain in some other shoes ive worn. Not sure what id think of the foam if i was 60lbs lighter but love it as a heavy runner.
I also did not feel much difference between Glycerin 18 & 20 when running, though the 20 foam feels softer when you touch it. I'm 6'2" & 190. I used the 20 for most long run and easy runs in Marathon training. For speed work and race day I went with Endorphin Speed 2s. I was also doing a weekly trail run of moderate difficulty, and the Speeds could not have handled that terrain, the Glycerin's were stable enough to handle it, thanks to the width of the sole. Just like the 18s, the Glycerin 20 seemed to cushion my feet without feeling soft or mushy. The cushioning actually felt a small bit less than the 18.
Thanks for using the metric system 😆😆 I'm thinking to choose this one (I'm 30 kg over my ideal weight) and currently, I'm using the brooks ghost 12 (and enjoying) … I'm really thinking between these brooks and the Nimbus 24, but I'll buy one of them only next year :) (I'm in Brazil, so the price is expensive)
I've run 300 miles in the Glycerin 19. I'm at 6'3" with weight fluctuations from 190 to well over 200lbs. For me it's a cushioned ride for slow runs. I have a more efficianct stride in the Brooks Launch and Saucony Tempus. Similar to your review about the 20 I've had a similar experience in the 19 on the road and treadmill. Weird. The Glycerin seems to be best for me when my weight is higher and my pace is slower. Would it be possible to get a friend who is taller and weighs more to test this shoe on your channel?
nailed this review, imho... Brooks midsoles have not evolved like many of their competitors. I am 6' & 200 #, and this midsole feels firm underfoot. Its "old school" or "throwback" in performance. Thank you for review!
I think one thing that is holding back this foam is the extensive rubber outsole. It is deadening the response. Aurora BL had the same foam but much less coverage. I think it has potential if implemented better. That said, while both DNA Loft v3 and DNA Flash are nitrogen injected, I remember some Brooks material distinguished them in the side of nitrogen bubbles. I think Loft v3 had bigger bubbles (but less of them) while DNA Flash had smaller bubbles (but more of them). So, this is probable having an effect on the performance as well.
I do agree with your insight on the midsole foam! I'm a much heavier runner than you (~80kg) and the Fuelcell Rebel v2 did bottom out for me quite early. The Puma Velocity 2 worked for me I think due to the dual density midsole. Others which I love is the Craft CTM Ultra 2 Ud Foam.
Gotta try the Launch 🚀 9’s 😂 I’m 6ft and 175lbs but the Glycerin always felt a little to firm for me but it seems the more nitrogen foam there is in a midsole, the more you have to compress it to get anything out of it 🤷🏻♂️
spot on. I didn't feel much about the cushioning it claimed. felt like Puma velocity nitro 2, but at a higher price tag. i used this for long run mostly, but my feet can't stand them beyond 25K. a bit disappointed as this is my first pair of brooks.
I have this shoe, not really a fan. Rides hard for me at 185. I also have the ghost 14 and prefer those over the glycerin. They do make pretty sharp walking shoes.
What I have found is that this stealthfit model fits a wider foot and higher instep than the normal version. I work at a running store and and we sell both models, so if you usually do well in narrower fitter shoes, avoid this shoe.
I Start to think, that Brooks shoes are more for occasional runners, walker or people who use that type of shoe for lifestyle…i ren at least 4 years ago the last time with a brooks shoe….but now we have so many top running shoes on the market, and i can get the reason to buy a brooks shoe…the hyperion tempo was a good start in a better direction but they stopt there….
I've heard that nitrogen foams supposedly firm up a lot in the cold. I don't know if that's actually the case, but this shoe felt pretty squishy under foot when I tried them on in a store. What temp was it outside when you did your runs?
I didn't have any problems running in ice and snow in the Brooks Catamount (but I think the relevant question isn't what temp it was outside. the relevant question is what temp was the foam, which I don't think is the same thing).
I don't love or hate the glycerin 20's while running. They are certainly attractive and comfortable for walking. I lean towards saucony endorphin line and new balance 1080's but what I will say for brooks is longevity. I believe my brooks will survive a nuclear bomb and still go for another 1,000 miles!
Diff ppl different feel. im a 100kg, i feel this shoes suits me better than kayano. easy run on this shoes quite comfort. in future maybe will try nb fuelcell supercomp trainer. its looks good.😊
For me Brooks doesn't work well..but when I found the hyperion elite V2 discounted to $100 and I needed a beater shoe I took a chance and was surprised that it is a good long run shoe..good enough that I used it on a 5k race ..not the most comfortable shoe but it worked well and didn't bottomout..the cushioning is stiff but it quickly breaks in and I think it will get better with the miles ..
interesting. I have worn them twice on the tread and I have felt that they are almost too bouncy! I have not had a chance to wear them outside yet and my next two Sundays I will be racing so will go with my saucony endorphin pros. My plan is to wear them for long, easy runs where I slowly add mileage for my fall marathon. I am five three and 126lbs so not sure they are meant for my frame but they are comfy!
@@kofuzi I also think I got them a little too big. I am a size 7.5 but usually get a size 8 when buying running shoes. Tread sessions are never as long so not as much chance for heat or blood pooling so my feet never swelled and then the shoes just felt too big. Training in them this summer though, I could see how a bit of roominess could be beneficial.
I generally think the effect of cold on midsole foam is overstated, unless you've done something unreasonable like leave it in a freezing car overnight or put it into a freezer for several hours first.
tried them on and found them uncomfortable. The stealth sock cut into my ankle and felt far from stealthy. I rock the unstealthy glycerin 20, which is more than fine for me. Wanted to like the stealth but found the normie version way more goooder.
How would you or could you compare the Glycerin 20 to the NB 1080 V2 and or the Saucony Tempus? I’m totally the opposite of what most described themselves in the comments but I do pronate quite a bit. I’m 5’4” 130lbs…would the Glycerin 20 work for me?
Hmmm... I am a relatively lighter runner (weights less than Kofuzi), and I wonder if the reasons cited by Kofuzi are also the same reasons I found some of the shoes loved by him to be too firm, such as the Adios Pro 2.
@kofuzi - I have this shoe ands its a F*&N Donkey for running. I'm 5'9 / 167lbs, after 4 miles my shins are on fire.. My legs fall apart after mile 5. I couldn't use this to train for my 1/2 marathon. Ended up switching 2 weeks before my race, with Launch 10. Most reviewers claim Launch is for speed training / shorter distance. Much much lighter..I cruised at 10min miles so my feet didn't get tired with the mid foam. I agree with everything this review said on mix pavements, etc..this shoe sucks..now I wear it around the house to pad against my hard wood floors.
Brooks maybe so popular due to paying higher commissions to the running shops when they sell them meaning they push it harder than other brands especially new runners 💵
Or because it's carried at nearly every shoe store including dicks sporting goods. Overseas they don't have the same distributors so a lot less market space.
I was also hoping these would work for me but no. Started this year 5’7” 240lb and they felt like bricks under foot. I feel no difference in the foam from my ghost 13s which are my casual walk shoe. For reference I am running in the Karhu Ikoni and while still firm they have a much better fit.
How would you compare this shoe to the triumph? I am on slightly bigger side and I’m looking for a larger slower shoes on days where I want to be gentle on my legs.
Hey Mike, similar to you I live in the cold north and with a March Marathon I’m doing all my training in temperatures that make shoes I love in summer feel like blocks. Any recommendations for shoes that maintain cushion in the cold? I know you did a video years back on whether winter shoes are strictly necessary, and the answer was basically no, but I’m on the lookout for something to keep long miles feeling good with an outsole that can handle some snowy surfaces.
I am generally of the opinion that the actual effect of cold on foam is overstated. (I'd be more inclined to believe that it is our bodies that are cold-sensitive rather than the foam, but even then, I don't think it accounts for as much as is commonly believed).
I’m a bigger guy 6’ 2” 205 and I feel that this shoe is lifeless especially when compared to the novablast 3, move v4, invincible,glideride3 and rebels. I was hoping the feel would be more like the Aurora from last year but I’m not getting that experience from this shoe.
I really didn't like these at all, it felt like the cushioning was elevated in the heel and ball of your foot, but then the arch kind of sipped down in the middle... idk, just didn't agree with my feet I guess
“Firm and not soft” you have to have some guts to make that claim. Brooks literally marketed this shoe as supremely soft… I find this review to be a bit disingenuous
I will agree with you that Brooks and Kofuzi have differing opinions on this shoe. I find it peculiar that you automatically side with the manufacturer, especially when you read through the comments here

Your analysis seems perfect.
Thanks for the feedback!
Great review and spot on kofuzi
As a 5'9 220 runner the foam on glycerin is heaven. It withstands the beating mt weigh put ok it without having me limp around in pain in some other shoes ive worn. Not sure what id think of the foam if i was 60lbs lighter but love it as a heavy runner.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for using the metric system 😆😆
I'm thinking to choose this one (I'm 30 kg over my ideal weight) and currently, I'm using the brooks ghost 12 (and enjoying) … I'm really thinking between these brooks and the Nimbus 24, but I'll buy one of them only next year :) (I'm in Brazil, so the price is expensive)
Thank you for review!
thanks for letting me know how it's been for you!
i'm not in the market for this shoe but watched with enjoyment anyway :)
I did have issues with the heel cup wearing on 1 shoe. I taped over it to prevent further breakdown but have loved the shoe regardless
And I love Brooks Ghost. I wear it at home. Everyday.
I do agree with your insight on the midsole foam! I'm a much heavier runner than you (~80kg) and the Fuelcell Rebel v2 did bottom out for me quite early. The Puma Velocity 2 worked for me I think due to the dual density midsole. Others which I love is the Craft CTM Ultra 2 Ud Foam.
fwiw, the Rebel 2 bottomed out for me too
I feel what you are saying I’m only 120 pounds and i had a pair and it felt firm I got the GTS version too and it feels even more firm.
I love Brooks Glycerin (to run and to walk). But I have older version. For me it's the best (I am 186 sm, 76 kg).
One more great review.
I have this shoe, not really a fan. Rides hard for me at 185. I also have the ghost 14 and prefer those over the glycerin. They do make pretty sharp walking shoes.
What I have found is that this stealthfit model fits a wider foot and higher instep than the normal version. I work at a running store and and we sell both models, so if you usually do well in narrower fitter shoes, avoid this shoe.
excellent tip!
6.2 and 202 lbs that is my favorite shoe. I see the truth in what your saying.
I didn't have any problems running in ice and snow in the Brooks Catamount
(but I think the relevant question isn't what temp it was outside. the relevant question is what temp was the foam, which I don't think is the same thing).
@@kofuzi fair! I guess it doesn't need to factor in, then. Or at least not with your conclusions, which I appreciate
This foam is the most fun to squish in your hands of any running shoe I’ve tried. Maybe that’s the market Brooks is going for?
I'm not much of a foam squisher, but I could think of a few other foams that I would prefer
@@kofuzi There’s an idea for a new video. 😆
@@Feanaro5503 God no durometer testing please @kofuzi
@@kerry_runs I know who you’re thinking of here!
@@Martha-fluterunner 😆 🤣 😂
Kofuzi just destroyed the new glycerin in his gracious way 😄
I don't love or hate the glycerin 20's while running.
I've heard similar feedback from a few others, and I wish I could experience what you were experiencing.
Sounds like it’s the cold that hardens it. Seems that boost is the only midsole that doesn’t harden…are there any other midsoles?
I generally think the effect of cold on midsole foam is overstated, unless you've done something unreasonable like leave it in a freezing car overnight or put it into a freezer for several hours first.
tried them on and found them uncomfortable. The stealth sock cut into my ankle and felt far from stealthy. I rock the unstealthy glycerin 20, which is more than fine for me. Wanted to like the stealth but found the normie version way more goooder.
Looks good❤
I agree that it looks great
How would you or could you compare the Glycerin 20 to the NB 1080 V2 and or the Saucony Tempus? I’m totally the opposite of what most described themselves in the comments but I do pronate quite a bit. I’m 5’4” 130lbs…would the Glycerin 20 work for me?
Hmmm... I am a relatively lighter runner (weights less than Kofuzi), and I wonder if the reasons cited by Kofuzi are also the same reasons I found some of the shoes loved by him to be too firm, such as the Adios Pro 2.
Materials science is a thing. As a heavier runner I definitely have had different takes on shoes that various shoe-tubers have loved or hated.
Yes, but how is it for sneaking up on people?
it's pretty quiet
I was also hoping these would work for me but no. Started this year 5’7” 240lb and they felt like bricks under foot. I feel no difference in the foam from my ghost 13s which are my casual walk shoe.
For reference I am running in the Karhu Ikoni and while still firm they have a much better fit.
How would you compare this shoe to the triumph? I am on slightly bigger side and I’m looking for a larger slower shoes on days where I want to be gentle on my legs.
I just did a side by side between the two and leaned towards the Brooks. Sent Triumphs back. Forefoot fit was better in Brooks
Adidas Boost 100%
Maybe the foam reacts poorly to Winter weather? Cold kills foam?
I am generally of the opinion that the actual effect of cold on foam is overstated. (I'd be more inclined to believe that it is our bodies that are cold-sensitive rather than the foam, but even then, I don't think it accounts for as much as is commonly believed).
@@kofuzi thanks!
Yo, what’s going on!!!
Temperature will effect the foam especially since it is a nitrogen infused foam
I think the effects of temperature on foams are generally overstated
Kofuzi is saying this shoe is for heel strikers 😆 🤣
Dna loft its still EVA, right?
It’s supercritical foam with nitrogen as the gas. Not positive of the source material in the supercritical process, but it could be EVA
I’m a bigger guy 6’ 2” 205 and I feel that this shoe is lifeless especially when compared to the novablast 3, move v4, invincible,glideride3 and rebels. I was hoping the feel would be more like the Aurora from last year but I’m not getting that experience from this shoe.
that's something that I've heard from others - people want that Aurora BL experience. that's what I was hoping for.
@@kofuzi maybe it was all the outsole rubber? I was intrigued by the shoe but not any longer haha.
wouldnt it be funny if warren buffet has your face on his running shoe.
Squish factor!
I really didn't like these at all, it felt like the cushioning was elevated in the heel and ball of your foot, but then the arch kind of sipped down in the middle... idk, just didn't agree with my feet I guess
❤️Love you from Pakistan 🇵🇰🇵🇰
“Firm and not soft” you have to have some guts to make that claim. Brooks literally marketed this shoe as supremely soft… I find this review to be a bit disingenuous
I will agree with you that Brooks and Kofuzi have differing opinions on this shoe.
I find it peculiar that you automatically side with the manufacturer, especially when you read through the comments here
