- tour through an engine room of a 8700TEU container ship.
ships dimensions: 335 m x 42 m
gross tonnage: 93750
main engine: MAN12K98ME
aux. engines: 4 x Daihatsu
while I'm watching engine room tour I remember my previous experience as a motor man for 12 yrs world wide route.....
Happy memories... Thanks for posting.
I have always been amazed by ship engine rooms. This is so cool. Thank you.
Oh how I love big and miss engine decks !
MAN,now that is an engine,WOW
Very cool, thanks for the show.
You have a cool job dude.
Supper bro. I will work on the same type
cool video, it's very interesting for me as for beginner!
I really love and miss my job.
good idea for freshers
My wife commented that you forgot to show her where you put the key in when you start the engines.. lol.
good one :D
i would guess this is a Hapag-loyd vessel
Nice tour of a huge complex...How big of a maintenance/repair crew do they generally have?
respekt!!
A modern container ship is an enormously complicated oceanfaring machine......All the piping, electrical kit, and all other ancillary mechanisims attest to the same.
Yes but I would say that tankers especially LNG ones are even more complicated
This engine operates at such a low speed as to properly drive the propeller most efficiently. The point here is to eliminate the costly and inefficient gearbox used in older-generation ships. That is my opinion.....corrections welcome......
Can u please tell meGenerator, compressor , purifier manufacturers name?
It is amazing how that engine can run so slowly--IMO at less than 100 RPM. I wonder what the firing order is and the geometry of the crankshaft. I too noticed that there are four or three reports of the cylinders per revolution of the flywheel. Maybe six pistons come down at once and the other six come up in one revolution. It is too difficult to tell from what is observed in this video. Correct me if I'm wrong. This engine gives off a strange noise at running speed. BTW, what is a Sea Chest and what purpose does is serve?
The engine is designed to run at less than 20 min^-1 in during manouvering. As it is a 2-stroke engine, there is always only one cylinder in TDC, you can actually hear the firing of each cylinder. During one revolution of the engine, every cylinder fires once.
The sea chests are the suction ports for the sea cooling water circle.
How fast is the engine spinning in the video? Thank you for the A2A
Would you know exactly the speed the engine is spinning in this video? Thanks for the A2A.
I don't know the exact speed of the engine, it was shut during the suez canal passage. The engine operates at quite low speed (app 40-50 rev), because two generators are running (shaft gen not in use).
Thanks for the A2A again.
Had an experience working in a Man ME engine. Alarms going on but there's no problem. I prefer working with Man MC engine and Mitsubishi UE engines.
Btw, is this engine made by Hyundai?
Correct, it is a Hyundai model
on engine control room platform there is an alternator close to the air reservoirs does it belong to an steam turbine?? this vessel has waste heat steam turbine??
It's a synchronous compensator for the shaft gen System. The vessel doenst have waste heat recovery
i miss working on this.
Do you know what's overall power consumption for that vessel?
The Main Engine Power is reduced to 34500kw, the Auxiliary Engines can produce about 14000kw. The fuel consumption ranges from 80-150mt per day.
the engine sounds strange running that slow
I think thats Colombo class or Not? 😬
