“A very simple, very pure momentum. Romanticism, but without any flourishes,“ is how Viard described her designs.
Evoking French film director Claude Chabrol’s 1968 film “The Does,” a lesbian drama, female models walked the runway together and chatted like intimates in the first looks. The models wore stylish retro black leather boots, ones with a brandy bell-shaped collar at the mid-calf that became the collection’s leitmotif.
Viard’s simplest designs were the most effective: A black silk bodice dress with the top lobbed off and dropped Juliette sleeves. Modeled by Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber, it had guests clicking their cameras. And voluminous studded jodhpurs that opened up at the bottom cut a beautiful silhouette. This design, Viard said in a touching detail, was an homage to Lagerfeld’s personal style. Another simple garment, a loose wool jacket in Chanel’s emblematic pink with a soft-spiky collar, was a high point.
Yet, a drawback of the tasteful showing were some of the overly flashy gold chains and costume jewellery that often distracted the eye from the show’s central aesthetic.

I absolutely loved this show! The long skirts , wide legged pants were stunning. Putting together this amazing show was breathtaking, and to see a beautiful cast of models make their collection come to life .well done Chanel ❤️
The lead designer, Virginia Viard, stays true to the Chanel brand of tweed and pearl. But, I loved her summer collection last year even better. Don't be afraid to follow your own vision of new fashion. Your vision is better than anything Chanel has had in the past. You are the new Chanel. Go where you may.

I just want to applaud whoever came up with this runway set and chorography. I enjoyed the fashion and styling was refreshing change from the norm of the Chanel suit. Those leather snap up pant at 1:56 and there was a velvet version and other leather colors later on the runway, hurt so bad that I would love to have them but never will be able to afford anything in this clothing line. Pirates of the Caribbean came to mind as an influence on some of the pieces/ Spanish/Latin flare. There was a lot of fashion and models on this runway (lot of hand needed to make these gorgeous clothing). Would have like to seen more diversity on this runway. This is the sort of clothing I was wearing late 80's early 90's, not what I expected to see on catwalk 2020.

@@ThatGmoney I viewed the collection again with your thoughts in mind and you are right! I dismissed many gorgeous pieces here ❤️ see caveat below. As a sucker for that traditional chanel look, the ls tweed maxi dress and tweed high slit pencils are TDF.
As one example in defense of chanel’s non- “bones” work in the 1950s, the sweeps of delicate feminine fabrics here remind me of a mid century chanel gown in MOMA: layered Chantilly lace from floor to chest held high w spaghetti straps. Bravo to Virginia for the diverse looks that push boundaries while cradling us in familiar feelings of Gabrielles “old school” style. The entire collection has movement either in sharp structure, gentle flow or metallic eye play. Truly remarkable.
That all being said, I think the majority of pants here threw me off. There are about 12 pair - here’s 2: 3:02, 6:05 Namely, the recurring tapered leg with heavily pleated waist, IMO, are reminiscent of the 1990s MC hammer era. However, IMO, the studded leather, split wide leg pants are stunning and surprisingly versatile with crisp tailored or boho tops.

I'm not into the pirate boots, they are all wearing them . I just went and watched Chanel winter 92-93 collection and liked it much better.
The venue is amazing, the clothes not so much.

The shoes and boots need to be upgraded to more sophistication. These stable flair boots is not what works best.
I am sorry Chanel but I have the impression that I just finish watching some messy, uncoordinated runway with beautiful models wearing nothing but some cheap looking fast fashion designs. Chanel if you are going to raise your prices, I am expecting more from you.

I’m mostly loving 🥰 this collection because of the simplicity yet elegant expensive look. This is in contact to collections I just reviewed that have 5 to 7 focal points competing for attention. I would love 💕 to wear almost all of these. Thanks for the elegance of great 👍

To be quite frank, this is the first full collection I’ve seen from Viard that actually makes me have hope for the future of CHANEL. I saw codes strewn throughout her past work and a very bold move to truly deconstruct and to create a new generation... anyway, for those who don’t understand this show... since when has CHANEL been classy? Like... it’s high-end bourgeoisie. CHANEL’s codes may not be understood by many, and that’s fine. To you, CHANEL is this... pouf pouf Madame sort of thing, the epitome of class... Marilyn Monroe and all that crap. That Hollywood idea is dead. Today’s CHANEL is... youth. insolence. an allusion to the past but almost ironically. Look, fashion is just that - fashion. Are YOU going to wear anything like this? Probably not. This is not for you. High fashion is for people that are able to understand that this is a conceptual art, and is about so much more than clothing.

Quite boring collection. Same boots throughout the whole collection regardless the outfit. Few touches of colour but not enough to determine which will be the relevant one for the next season and I am not talking about the b/w. Buttoned trousers? No thank you. Maybe Chanel needs a designer who comes from outside with a completely new vision for the brand. Will Virginie become like Maria Grazia Chiuri or is she like her already?

Venue and music are amazing, fashion not.
All pieces are to used separete, this is the new Chanel, reinvented each one of designs and also the embroidering has a luxury of haute courute. See the glamour sometime is difficult, but is here when you need open your mind to feel new experiences.

@Carlos Castillo La verdad me aburrió mucho porque usa tendencias de pasarelas anteriores como los pantalones con botones y las botas. No vi tema alguno hasta que mencionaste el Coronavirus y creo que tienes un buen punto, ya que en las prendas, al principio aparecen las modelos con collares y dijes en forma de cruz. Al final aparece Gigi Hadid en negro con 2 mujeres, una a cada lado vestidas de blanco. Me sorprendió. D:

I personally found the half updo style not really flattering on some of the total looks. By some I mean most.

I really liked this collection every piece can be worn with something else and when I saw this I did think of Chanel maybe not the best show but I still liked it. Have you guys not seen the other collections? Especially Gucci mens :(

I don't know how I feel about this show. I think I gave to watch it again. The shorts. The shorts got excessive I think. For the most part I like, but I gotta watch it again.

Just come from LV 21' which is kind too bulky and "chaotic";) for me even I like funky style. Again still feel comfortable to watch Chanel and makes me feel " ahhh... this is the high class outfit". BTW I haven't seen many " Pretty Woman" wearing anything this fine clothes on high street for a long time ........................................STF.......................................
