Thus is EXACTLY what I needed to listen to tonight! I knew I would eventually find someone talking about God in a way that makes sense and deals with these basics that I've been struggling with. I'm a newly disillusioned mormon, and trying to make sense of so much. Thank you!

Great testimony! Key phrase, “it was the first time I stopped fighting the Bible.” Coming out of Mormonism, this was true of my born-again conversion as well.
That was 30 years ago and the Bible has strengthened and cleansed me and given me the understanding of what repentance is all about, along with the abundant grace and mercy of God.
It is only through the Bible that we gain the understanding of Christ’s finished work on the cross and the blood He shed for us, that convicts us of sin until we cry, “Have mercy on me, O God, a sinner!” Knowing I don’t deserve His love and kindness, yet He continues to let it flow nevertheless, makes me love Him all the more.
If it weren’t for the Bible I wouldn’t know this love. The Book of Mormon didn’t teach me that, nor the Doctrine & Covenants, and the most the leadership could tell me were basic anecdotal stories of other “righteous” lives. Yes, I looked up to them as if they were God, Himself, and had a testimony, but it all came crashing down one day when I found out the foundation was built on sand. I couldn’t deny it, and since I desired God’s truth (not my own) I asked Him to show me.
    He did.
Since then my foundation has been on the Rock, Jesus Christ, and not a particular church or building. Sometimes the waves are high and the oceans rage, but He continues to stand-and always will-forever. This I know.
I don’t wonder anymore why the Bible is fought against and minimized on a constant basis, even while it gives life to millions.
I know the answer to that already; the enemy wants to keep people out of the Kingdom of God. I pray for those who lose one faith, not to abandon the One and Only God, our Savior. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life-He will take you by the hand and over time, will turn your sadness into joy-if you let Him.

You know I always get so anxious when I speak with someone about God but moses had a stutter and he used him. I have some new info on the Mormon church but I also remember thinking a few times I wish Jesus would've also said this or I wish he wouldn't have said that cause it's getting twisted.
And God reminded me his word is enough. It's not my job to "win" souls that's God's job I just plnt and give them something to think about And i just remember thinking how can you read the Bible and believe these things and just like he mentioned the heart is decietful above all else and they allow it to twist what God has said as sad as it is but God is on control and those who really want to know truth will find it.

Thank you Andy for sharing your testimony and thank you Aaron for posting this video. I was attending a Mormon church and strongly considering joining based on feelings I was having. I talked to my brother who told me Mormonism is a cult, they do not believe in Biblical Christianity and that polygamy is still practiced in the mainstream church even though they claim it is not. I told him if this were true there would be people who have left the church and would warn others about this. This was the first video I found after talking to him. God is so good, and will give truth to those who seek it. If you are a Mormon or someone who is considering becoming a Mormon because of feelings you have had, I urge you to pray to the God of the Bible, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for truth. He will give you truth and set you free!

Enough with the bashing. This man does not claim he talked to God. He claims he believed he did. I just watched all 45min and 51 seconds. He specifically says the heart is deceitful (Jerm. 17:9) His testimony is wonderful, this man DOES NOT claim to have talked to God, rather, God changed him through showing him truth, that he and you, and I cannot rely on our feelings to know truth, but through research and testing, and seeing the word of God Says. Live for Christ, guard your heart. God Bless

Your own D. Todd Christofferson recently said at a BYUI speech: "Joseph Smith’s prophetic calling is key to our religion. Without his commission from the Father and the Son, without his priesthood ordinations and the keys he received at the hands of duly appointed heavenly messengers, without the fullness of the gospel restored through his visions and revelations and his translations of the Book of Mormon and the Bible, what we would have is something much less than true Christianity."

Where will you go to when you die? Have you ever told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain, or looked at someone with lust? If yes, then you are a lying, theiving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. When you die & stand before God you'll be guilty of breaking His law. The bible says you'll end up in Hell! So God sent God His Son Jesus to die for your sins, & He rose from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins & was resurrected) you'll be saved!

God doesn't try. God does. men try like how joseph smith tried to get his book published and failed the first time.

I appreciate the very sincere and caring approach of this topic. I've had similar struggles of receiving "false revelation" and being confused, struggling to understand the differences between my own emotions and the spirit of God - and I believe that most who seek the Spirit are bound to encounter this at some point. I think we, who are also Biblical Christians, saved by grace, have more in common than we have differences with other Christian denominations.
I think it's unfortunate that so many among us and outside of us misunderstand the scriptures and get caught up in the belief that works themselves lead to salvation and reward in heaven, rather than understanding that the reward of living the words of God is in knowing Him, and that His grace is freely given to everyone who will accept Him, regardless of their works.
I suspect that Joseph Smith, may have been much like Moses - a man with many weaknesses who committed some number of grave sins (for which he was chastised by the Lord), who wondered many years in the wilderness, who was despised and rejected by many of the people he lead, and who, due to his transgressions, did not live to dwell in the promised land.
Although various members of the Church of Jesus Christ interpret the scriptures regarding feelings of the Spirit in different ways, www.fairmormon.org/answers/Holy_Ghost/Burning_in_the_bosom gives a fairly complete overview, including Bible-based account of Jesus' disciples feeling the Spirit.
Again, I appreciate this sincere and humble perspective and I hope sharing my own perspective is taken with kindness and understanding.

Mr. Poland exaggerates the importance momons place on feelings. If you listen to the verse in D&C 9:8, it says you must study it out and then ask for spiritual confirmation. This study includes using the scriptures both ancient and modern to understand God's law and His will. Continuing revelation both as a church and in the lives of individuals continues to be one of the core tenets of momonism. The heart deceives only when it is not pure. 1Timothy 1:5

Greg... actually LDS specifically base their testimonies on feelings, as per Moroni 10:4-5. The "burning in the bosom" is both emotional and physical... and considered essential to every Mormon testimony.
How ironic that while Mormons are correctly taught that just because it feels good doesn't mean you should do it... Yet... if it feels good, believe it.

Based on the last comment I made, Saul/Paul studied the scriptures, and began persecuting the early Christians. His reasoning caused him to err. Through divine revelation, aka the appearance of Jesus to Paul, God (speaking of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost) let Paul know of his error and thereafter Paul became a mighty force for good in the world, acting under God's direction. It is by divine revelation, not man's reasoning alone, by which God reveals truth to the world.

My question still is that, since the scripture in Jeremiah is telling us that we cannot trust man's emotions, thoughts or reasoning, how can we trust man to correctly interpret God's word without revelation from God? Is it that there are some which do not have deceitfulness in their hearts (or in modern terms their emotions, thoughts and reasoning) and are thus able to correctly interpret the scripture?

I address the whole "feelings" thing in my book "Escaping Religion.." Any Spirit can cause you to feel things...My husband caused the burning bosom thing after his death! Living people who are good at public speaking can transfer their emotions

Wow this amazing. Thank you so much. I did not know LDD was so feelings associated. It also brought light to when I have felt feelings as a Christian towards something when I prayed, but I have misinterpreted my feelings to mean something else.
It's like what you said, you have to weigh the fruit sometimes to see if something is of God or not.

@lindalds whats weird is when people lie about christianity it doesn't make me feel bad at all because i know the truth.
i have faith in christ like i have faith in the chair i sit in. i know Him, He knows me, He works in my life, and conditions me to be more like Him. there's that then the mountains of textual and archaeological evidence that supports everything written in the bible.
its two fold, God works in my life AND he's left tons of evidence for my mind to grab on to.

Every man who got an endowment on the day you did, Andy, was given "Moses."

No, Satan was created by God and fears even the holy name of Jesus. Use it often and drive Satan away.
