      Fact: at one point during the manufacturing of artificial butter flavoring, it is actually highly poisonous & unfit for human consumption. See "Twinkle, deconstructed" by Steve Ettlinger. Fair warning, you might find out some things you don't want to know!

      I actually do have nutritional yeast and furikake in my kitchen, and I could make ghee from butter, so I'm good. The yeast is sort of like a cheese substitute anyway.

      I use a microwavable glass mixing bowl and cover it with a corelle plate. The higher the wattage the better it works

    When theres an actual apocalypse and zombies are emerging on all major cities, the power grid has been shut down and all government officials are hiding in underground bunkers, I feel like we’ll all be here, watching Alton make spaghetti in his weird little abandoned kitchen.

      Most woks (or at least the one I have) are made from a little heavier duty metal, which means it will take longer to heat up. His bowl seems like the best method for heating up quickly without burning.

    By the by, since I don't like popped corn (leaving two hungry, unsupervised kindergarteners in the car at a carnival in 1962 - you could do that then and not be arrested- with a huge bag of popcorn, is a recipe for gastric disaster, and a lifelong aversion. We finished it between us. 'Nuf said about that), I got some whole sorghum grains at the health food store and will pop them soon. This is enjoyed often in Africa and India. I'll try it with ghee. It's also gluten-free and non-inflammatory, unlike corn.

      @@immaculab.4231 That's also a good seasoning but they do have the elote seasoning which is salt, chile powder, cheese, chipotle, and cumin. An elote is street corn on the cob in Mexico.

    I have a large mesh splatter shield that I used instead of the foil. It lets more steam out and is reusable. You're welcome 😘

      You just blew my mind, and I'm going to be forever grateful! How do you attach it to the bowl though? Just hold it on with the towels? I think I might see if I can use binder clips to secure it, but if you have a better method, I'd like to hear about it. Knowing myself, if I tried to hold it on, I'd end up with half-popped corn all over the floor and be very sad.

      @@soygurl24 My spatter shield has a long handle like a skillet. When I shake the pan -- as I always do when making popcorn; I make mine in my soup pot -- I just have that handle in the same hand as a pot handle.

      @@soygurl24 I just use my hands. I use a stock/large soup pot, crank up the heat, add ghee/oil and salt, popcorn immediately, then I hold the top lip of the pot and side handles and splatter shield together and vigorous shakey shakey until popcorn is done. The top lip of the pot never has time to get hot, the shakey makes the unpopped guys fall to the bottom and moves the popped guys around fast enough so they don't burn.
      I can make a video if that isn't clear.

    Two things: Wayyyyy back in the middle of the last century, my family had a popcorn popper, probably from the 1950s. It was small, but had a popping bowl separate from the heating element, and the bowl was, in fact, hemispherical. They may have been on to something there.
    Second thought: we saw your live show in Philly and enjoyed it a lot, but my wife still hasn't forgiven you for not finding some way to get popcorn to the people way up in the nosebleed seats where we were.

    If you don’t want to buy cheese powder off amazon, you can also get moon cheese. Costco sells it in big bags and many grocery stores have it in little ones. Just dehydrated cheese. Then grind it up and sprinkle on the popcorn.
