    My grandad got me the VHS tapes through a newspaper when I was 7. 20 years later, still got them, still cherish them. So glad to see these pop up on YT, after all these years. Thank you so much for uploading them!!

    I remember watching this documentary many years ago on VHS tape. What a wonderful surprise to see it again....revived seamlessly with new video into a much longer and even more interesting show. Good job!!!

      I had no idea that there was a supercut beyond the condensed version aired on PBS. This is a gem to go back & rewatch.

    It's amazing how much the railway scene in Queensland has changed since 1999. Yaraka branch line is gone, Mary valley rattler still runs but not to Imbil, Rosewood railway is still going. The great South Pacific is all but gone, what a site it was when it used to go past my old school at Eudlo. This series really is a wonderful insight into what it used to be just before the 21 century came into being.

    The Yaraka line did close in 2005 and the school was closed shortly after.

    This was very interesting indeed. Thank you very much.
    I have had a love of trains since I was 5 or 6 years of age. A couple of times our mum, my brother and I went to visit our grandmother. We caught the train from I think Raleigh to Casino. Then when I was 16 I worked in the ticket office at Moree. Started 21 Febuary 1972. Latter moving to Gunedah. Sadly due to alcoholism and gambling addiction I lost my position. My last 9 1/2 years I worked as a security guard on the Brisbane suburban network, mainly on the trains. Also worked at a station 2 south of Nambour, can't think of name? I worked at the Control Centre for around 6 months, and finished my time at the Gate House at Bowen Hills stabling yard and workshops.
    You can take me away from trains, but you can't take my love for trains away. My love the old diesel long distance. Clackerty clack I am sleepy !!!!

    Up until I the end of last year I worked an electric lever machine that was almost 120 years old when I retired (it was put into service in 1901).

    The "Great south pacific express" was canned when QR decided it wasn't worth it cost wise. 30 or so million down the drain and shipped off to Preu where they run as "Belmond Andean Explorer". Unfortunately, much of the styling has been striped out and modernised. I guess it kept one workshop open for a bit. Too bad the Liberals ran the entire industry into the ground when they outsourced the new trains from Bombardier to India instead of building locally.

      Maybe that's why they got tossed out after 1 term. Newman was clearly and will always be known as the worst premier Queensland ever had

      Anna Bligh privatised QR freight systems. Campbell did what needed to be done, just a bit too fast for some of you.

    Too bad you couldn't have gone up to the Gulf Country and ridden the Gulflander.

    Does Brisbane have any plans for modern trams or lite rail?

    • @aydoyt
      @aydoyt 2 года назад

      Not currently. There is though a proposal for a "Brisbane Metro" a BRT system with buses designed to look like trams. The first one has already been delivered.
