Illustrator Logo Design Tips to Create Professional Logos

- I received a great topic suggestion asking if I could make a tutorial on creating a folded logo in the style of Android N or the new Medium branding. In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial I'll show you how to create a design based on the letter M, but this folded style gives you plenty of options for producing various initials, or an abstract ribbon type icon. We'll create the full colour primary logo graphic, then follow up with flat and mono versions that would be used in specific design scenarios.

Fellow Chris! Wow! That technique about making the Gradient and changing the appearance to Soft Light is genius! It's saved me so much time when selecting gradient choices now! Far less drag and eye-dropping :) Great video!

I got stuck at the gradient transition. I had to revert to selecting each object and creating gradients and then use the picker tool to select the color. It was a bit complicated, but I was able to get it done. Great tutorial, though.

My gradient does not look like that. When changing the blend mode to soft light it makes all the colors much lighter, no gradient visible at all! Can't find a solution anywhere.

Make Opacity less, try with 30 or 40%
make sure to set your document to basic-RGB. after 3 hours of desperate work.....rework....rewoooork....it worked finally. try it.

He used cmnd + [....it's to arrange the layer order...
If you get stuck at the gradient, mie sure you're using RGB colour mode! CMYB won't work
Nice design, i like how simple it is but looks good, didnt learn to many new things from it, but was fun to see and do, now just gotta implement it on some actuall design :D But at 4:16 iwas like Who the fuck would think of that? :D
I know,I am hope less, but I am stuck at very beginning ,I cant make the shapes to overlap so they would make the letter M, because when you are moving the the rectangle you pasted at front, it is already being like at the front of the orignal rectangle but mine doesnt

Here are some tips when doing instructionals. Not too fast, don't say any size to start, give more info on standard size or a give a size for logos you would suggest. For newbies doing design, we need more basic direction. Otherwise, You rock!
Gradient doesn't work the way you explain it anymore
so that's why I can't follow along. What's the fix?
Strange... My direct selection tool is not working like yours... :(
You have to select the anchor point before you can move the rectangle. Select the corner you'd like to pivot and then on the bottom you can drag to the right.
Yep. But in the video he deselected the rectangle before the selection with the direct selection tool
I didn't understand what you did at 4:30 ..
He used the keyboard shortcut of (Send Backwards) which is (Ctrl + [ ) in windows until the shape is in the correct place
