You're dead right about late shift. I don't mind hanging around at 1am local in a park on a warm summer night as per the old rules but I ain't doing it in February. Personally I'd just abolish shifts and do something to incentivise QSOs on the bands that aren't 40m and 20m. Keep up ithe good work.
Late shift is really jacked up now. I can't get my head around it for some reason. I've hunted almost 3000 parks and all I've had to worry about was my time UTC. Now each park might be a late shift, might not be? I think they over thought it. Zulu time was an international standard to eliminate all this time zone confuculation and it seems to be a step backwards. I digress. Keep calm and pota on.
When I first registered as a POTA user I was surprised to learn I already had the Bronze award, all CW (hi hi). Many of my SKCC contacts were at a park operating as POTA but without actually mentioning it at the time. Fun stuff!
Again another very helpful video. I never thought to change my grid setting. Thank you much , Jim K2WPA NJ

Oh man, that Sahara station was rare? Ignorance is bliss. I worked my ass off yesterday to get 10 QSOs while QRP and that was my last one! Hope you're able to get him soon!
My contacts go green once I've logged someone. So if they go to another park later and start activating, I wouldn't easily know. Is it OK to just answer their CQ again?
yeah that's one of the downfalls of activating on FT8. Unless you're looking at the spotting page you have no idea what park they're in. I'd say go ahead.
I don't have my logging program hooked up to it, but I could. I just don't like anything auto-logging so I export the .adif from WSJT-X from time to time and import to my logging software.
Why do they make things so complicated and confusing? Why is there even such a thing as Late Shift? Why not just get on the air and make contact? de KW7WP. Oh, I do appreciate your explanation. Keep up the good work and 73😊

You can do just that, those are just bonuses and they work automatically.
Another great mail-bag Monday! Thanks for the FT8 POTA segment!!
The banana and mouse on the floor every episode is something I look forward to hunting for. Almost like Where's Waldo :)
They're the true stars.

Loved finding out I was a POTA hunter and I didn't even know it.

I can never hear him. Maybe one day. Awesome you got him QRP though!
I love your freedom seeder in the back.
That's my new one.
Another great episode and thank you for KISS Methods to determine POTA Late Shift 🎙️
Just getting into ft-8 I'll take all the information you got.
I did a whole video on how to get it up and running along with another one on Gridtracker.
@@hamradiotube I’ll search for it and thank you. Still waiting on MFJ-1205r.
They were on FT4. Do not overlook the force that is FT4…or something like that.

"Two birds stoned at once.." I see what you did there... 🤣
👍🏻
Do you have WSJT-X talking to GridTracker AND your logging program at the same time?
I don't have my logging program hooked up to it, but I could. I just don't like anything auto-logging so I export the .adif from WSJT-X from time to time and import to my logging software.
so basically i can't activate between shifts?
Sure you can. You can activate whatever time you want.
They should just eliminate "late shift". I mean what the F. Why not just use UTC time and be done with it?
Nice, thanks..

POTA was nice now to may rules the rest all work on Z time/ UTC now they come with funny stuff --- no go here ,Pieter
Who cares what shift? I don’t get it. Use Zulu time for the time you log the contact. It’s the same at both places.

Hahahahahahaha!!! Yet another reason to not be on Facebook.
@@tracymoon4437 I don’t hate POTA, in fact I activate a couple times each summer and occasionally do some hunting😀
Great video! de W2CSI
