    Again, great video AJ. I agree it depends on who is doing the work and less about the overall company. The guy I trusted to do work was at Golf Galaxy and moved to the PGA Superstore. I continue to go to him for trust. If I am out of state and need repair on the fly, I go to the shop to ask the specific repair person lots of questions. That way I get an idea if I can trust them and they understand I will scrutinize the work. As always, your videos are about questions we all have and would like to know but not willing to test. Thanks!

    Wonderful video ! I’ve had a similar dodgy fit out with a Titleist order in Sydney where the irons were cut 1” shorter 7 iron was 36” and the weight of the 4 iron shaft was 100gms instead of 94 (AMT black shafts where each iron go progressively up by 3gms). This was a placed order not a fitting day order. I’m now able to check the build. Unfortunately, a general golfer does not have equipment or know how to check these faults.

    • @bobpegram8042
      @bobpegram8042 2 года назад

      @@EFGMC - Also, as you know, some companies measure club length before grip installtion (like TaylorMade) and some after. The ones who measure after grip installation (like Mizuno) end up slightly shorter. In this case, like you say, the clubs should have been measured for both swingweight and length before doing anything else which avoids that entirely. It used to drive me crazy when customers would bring in a broken club with only the head and lower section of the shaft. I would ask them what the original length was, what shaft if it wasn'r apparent, what flex, what grip & size. Often they had no idea. I would ask if they had the upper section of the broken shaft. They usually did not. I would ask them to bring in another wood or iron as appropriate from the same set if they had their clubs with them or ask if they could bring one in later. As a last resort we could make it to standard specs which we would look up.

      @@billchuplis9460 blowing off grips that are taped on is a tricky situation but it's not impossible. A little solvent in the butt end of the club and the proper pressure in your compressor is absolutely necessary for success. The issue is that those amounts change depending on the type of grip and how old it is. It's very easy to explode a grip removing it with air.

      When I worked at PGA Tour Superstore in East Palo Alto, CA, our head clubmaker was an independent sort and would do things the right way no matter what management said. He moved to Idaho. I was the same way - a stickler for details. I caught several mistakes by newer, less experienced people before they went out the door. The head guy caught more. With Covid the store lost most of the rest of their experienced people. Some big box stores could have good clubmakers, but it is hit or miss. Small independent clubmakers (like A.J.) are usually a better bet. They have to do a good job or go out of business.

    • @EFGMC

      Swing weight is very personal. Some golfers won't notice differences so are very sensitive. The shaft will also flex differently if the weights are in a good progression. Again some golfers will notice more than others.
      Lie angles impact depends on the club you are using. I did a video on this aways back.

    I have also had a “not so good” club fitting experience at one of these two stores.
    But I have another question
    (perhaps you can do a video about this)
    I put an old lob wedge back in my bag this week and I notice it has a little bit of rust from sitting idle for a couple years.
    What’s the easiest way to clean up iron heads? … short of a complete refinishing? Or is refinishing the only way to get irons like new again?
    I’ve watched your “Preseason tips” video about using fine grit sandpaper to remove the rust. But any other tips?
    Would appreciate your help with this.

    • @EFGMC

      Yeah, sand paper or brillo pad or similar is what you need to remove the rust. Of course the rust will come back if you don't keep the clubs very clean and dry when not in use. The only way to prevent rust is to refinish (aka re-chrome) the heads.
