Thanks for the thorough step by step on this gun. I have 2 of these models in 20 ga both were pawn shop purchases over the years, one is a 1st year production gun from 1953 with factory optioned cutts compensator set up. nice lightweight carry all day upland guns. Great to see such a detailed video.
Thank you for watching and I know you will enjoy the shotguns for years to come. Having a first year production is awesome!! Stay safe out there and thanks again for watching
@@suburbanhunt3653 hi, i hope you are all well. Quick question: any ideas why this model has intermittent firing issues. Either light strike or something like that. It's marking the cartridge but it sometimes doesn't fire. Cartridge then fires in another gun or again in the franchi.
Great job. Thank you. I have a Franchi 48 AL that was my father hunting gun. I was able to bring it from Italy to here. I would love to do a deep cleaning (gun is about 55 years old), but too many parts and afraid that I won't be able to put it back together. Watched the 2nd part as well.

Fantastic Video ! It was very easy to follow along. However, the only part you missed, that I need to do, is removing the ejector on the barrel. I broke mine while cleaning it. I have tried a punch and just managed to destroy the polished edge. What is the trick to replacing this part? I cannot find any video showing me this procedure. Please explain to me how this is done. Thanks again.
Kevin I apologize for the delay in response. Long story short the ejector is soldiered in place. I have to recommend you take it to a gunsmith to repair. Some issues are best left to the professionals. I just dropped Chris's shotgun off this morning. Sorry boss
excellent video. when you were taking off the butt and the part that came apart that wasn't suppose to, on mine its bent, that second part. the main tube on receiver looks great but the tube that screws into that looks worked over and slightly bent. like somebody fell on the gun at one time. also my butt stock has a crack they tried to fix. is there a site I can get a replacement metal tube to screw into main tube to hold spring? Blessings
The portion that unscrew with the stock screw is seized in mine. I’ve applied some penetrating oil and am giving it time to work but do you have any other recommendations on getting that freed up?
Unfortunately I don't. Just make sure to use a big enough flathead to prevent damage to the screw. Sometimes they can be a pain after setting for a long time. I wish you luck. If you can't get it would recommend taking it to a local gunsmith and see what they can do. Again best of luck.
Any ideas on why mine won't load shells? It hasn't been test fired, I cannot get the loading gate to allow shells in without holding the bolt release and after loading the tube it won't put the shells on the lever to chamber.
I need to look into this. The owner of the shotgun in the video says that his is doing the same thing. In testing I put a shell in the chamber and sent the bolt home. Then it fired all shell without error. I just haven't had the time to look it over. Thank you for watching and I will see what I can find out.
You do realize that you have to load the first shell into the chamber, and then close the bolt to allow the slide to take shells? It is common with these kind of S/A shotguns.
A problem with loading Luigi Franchi's gun. The cartridge remains in its magazine and does not exit to enter the firing nozzle. Do you have a video to solve this problem or can you send me the solution? Thank you.
@suburbanhunt365 this is a long shot, but I am in need of a governor ring for my 12 gauge 48-AL. would you be open to measuring the dimensions of the governor ring so I can make one? This would be a huge help and the only other things i can find on these are 10 year old forums etc. you are the most recent source I have seen with one.
Sorry, but this is not my shotgun, but maybe the link below will help. www.shotgunworld.com/threads/franchi-48al-12ga-brass-friction-ring-dimensions.528794/
Two friction rings. Is yours a 3 inch magnum? I would go through the shotgun, as I did, and look for any cracks or visible damage. Thank you for watching and hope everything is top notch working order.
@Suburbanhunt365 the two rings I was talking about are the friction ring and spring that are on top of one another. I didn't mean to say that in a way as if there was two of them. Other than that issue with the rings there doesn't seem to be any issues with it. It's clean and free of rust, springs all taught, etc. I'll be taking it to the range soon and I guess we'll see what happens
Yes and no. The shotgun in the video belongs to a friend of mine. Its a family heirloom. I'm sure he will have it for many years to come. Thank you for watching.

You do realize that you have to load the first shell into the chamber, and then close the bolt to allow the slide to take shells? It is common with these kind of S/A shotguns.
If you locked the bolt back to the rear, wouldn't that release tension on the recoil spring to easily get the barrel off?
That spring is for recoil of the barrel, not for the bolt.

I bought a used 12g just like this one and the governor ring was in front of the other two rings... what would that have caused if I didn't fix that?
I'm also worried what kind of damage it may have done if the previous owner had used it like that

Only idiots remove buttstock for disassembly 48 AL instead of preloading the spring
